Powerslave Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 I consider TIE Fighter, along with the Wing Commander series, the greatest flight sim I've ever played. X-Wing Alliance had very nice graphics, and an extremely easy to use mission editor which could produce some amazing battles). Scenario-wise, it left me totally uninterested.
Gorth Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 (edited) The last two good space sims I played was X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter (never could find a store that had X-Wing Alliance) and before that Elite II I also had Freelancer (at least I think that was the one) which came as bundled software with some hardware, but ironically, it didn't run on my computer <_> Edited April 19, 2006 by Gorth “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. mkreku Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Oh, and anyone looking for a space sim strategy game should take a look at the upcoming Sword of the Stars. It's looking good so far. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
Judge Hades Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 (edited) *Hades begins to sing* Where have all the space sims gone and where are all the mods? Where's the great Wing Commander to fight the rising odds? Isn't there a Freelancer or even a Silpheed? Late at night I toss and I turn and I dream of what i need I need a Space Sim I'm holding out for a Space Sim to keep me up at night I gotta have a ship that's strong and it gotta be fast and gotta be fresh for the fight I need a Space Sim I'm holding out for a Space Sim till the morning light Its's gotta be a Freespace clone and its gotta be right And has Mark Hamill doing the pilot's voice Doing the pilot's voice. Somewhere after midnight In my torn up c-ockpit The enemy just beyond my reach There's someone reaching back for me with guns blazing and shooting a missile seeking my heat It's gonna take a good wingman to keep me on my feet I need a Space Sim I'm holding out for a Space Sim to keep me up at night I gotta have a ship that's strong and it gotta be fast and gotta be fresh for the fight I need a Space Sim I'm holding out for a Space Sim till the morning light Its's gotta be a Freespace clone and its gotta be right And has Mark Hamill doing the pilot's voice Doing the pilot's voice. astr0creep Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Hades you just made my day whole again. http://entertainmentandbeyond.blogspot.com/
Calax Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 alliance was better than XvT. Xwing vs tie fighter was just a series of missions that you could use that were designed for multiplayer, Alliance actually had mission objectives and new craft to toy around with. Also In alliance you get to fly the falcon down the Death star 2's throat. Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! Kevin Butler will awesome your face off.
astr0creep Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Apparently this is very good. And what about Star Trek Bridge Commander... by Larry Holland? http://entertainmentandbeyond.blogspot.com/
Dark_Raven Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 I heard that all of the Star Trek games sucked. They usually get bad reviews from what I have read. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
alanschu Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 The 25th anniversary Star Trek game was crazy fun. As was a reaaaaally old game for the Mac called NetTrek (multiplayer space combat back in 1988 baby!)
Dark_Raven Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 That's because star trek sucks. (w00t) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, the games suck, not the franchise. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
metadigital Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 There are about forty Star Trek games. Some are noxious. A lot are ordinary. Some are good. OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT

alanschu Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Net Trek and 25th Anniversary = Good. Though I don't think the Net Trek game was official.

It included lots of details, like recharging the Enterprise at Star Bases, and limited resources (energy for phasers and shields and torpedoes), and managing damage from battles, etc. [*]This became a cross-over game, and I played it on the Apple ][ [*]Elite Force was the last game, and it was basically exactly the same as the previous one, except it had better graphics and Patrick Stewart OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
alanschu Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 (edited) I have played the game that meta described. I did not know it was the first ever computer game though. I thought that that went to "Spacewar" Edited April 19, 2006 by alanschu

alanschu Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 That Zelfram Cochrane part isn't actually part of the song is it?
