What happened to all the good space sims??

Recommended Posts

I consider TIE Fighter, along with the Wing Commander series, the greatest flight sim I've ever played.

X-Wing Alliance had very nice graphics, and an extremely easy to use mission editor which could produce some amazing battles). Scenario-wise, it left me totally uninterested.

The last two good space sims I played was X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter (never could find a store that had X-Wing Alliance) and before that Elite II

I also had Freelancer (at least I think that was the one) which came as bundled software with some hardware, but ironically, it didn't run on my computer <_>

*Hades begins to sing*

Where have all the space sims gone and where are all the mods?

Where's the great Wing Commander to fight the rising odds?

Isn't there a Freelancer or even a Silpheed?

Late at night I toss and I turn and I dream of what i need

I need a Space Sim

I'm holding out for a Space Sim to keep me up at night

I gotta have a ship that's strong and it gotta be fast

and gotta be fresh for the fight

I need a Space Sim

I'm holding out for a Space Sim till the morning light

Its's gotta be a Freespace clone and its gotta be right

And has Mark Hamill doing the pilot's voice

Doing the pilot's voice.

Somewhere after midnight

In my torn up c-ockpit

The enemy just beyond my reach

There's someone reaching back for me

with guns blazing and shooting a missile seeking my heat

It's gonna take a good wingman to keep me on my feet

alliance was better than XvT.

Xwing vs tie fighter was just a series of missions that you could use that were designed for multiplayer, Alliance actually had mission objectives and new craft to toy around with.

Also In alliance you get to fly the falcon down the Death star 2's throat.

Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition!

Kevin Butler will awesome your face off.

There are about forty Star Trek games. Some are noxious. A lot are ordinary. Some are good.

Define and catagorize them.

No.

I will say this much, though:

[*]the first ever computer game ran on an IBM mainframe and was about Star Trek

it was text as graphics, where E represented the Enterprise, and K represented a Klingon warship, etc, projected on a backdrop of about ten by ten sectors in each of about sixty-four quadrants.

It included lots of details, like recharging the Enterprise at Star Bases, and limited resources (energy for phasers and shields and torpedoes), and managing damage from battles, etc.

[*]This became a cross-over game, and I played it on the Apple ][

[*]Elite Force was the last game, and it was basically exactly the same as the previous one, except it had better graphics and Patrick Stewart
