Morrowind questions, need help please

Recommended Posts

Okies so Im forcing myself to play Morrowind (as I bought it), have tried before but lost interest fast. So Im at a cross roads now.

I have finished first town and half way through second one and STILL have no idea what the storyline is. Whats my agenda? My goals? Why am I doing all this? Someone explain it to me please.

Now I admit I have started to skip reading stuff because 24 page books every 2 rooms and asking every NPC 30 different questions is just to much and to boring, if I wanted to read "War and Peace" , I would read "War and Peace".

So my questions are"

1) Whats the story line as I have yet to see any patern or meaning form in the game?

2) Does the game get better or does it remain just ALOT of reading with no answers or meaning? (get quest, run quest, get quest, run quest for no other reason then doing them)

Also I HATE HATE HATE the combat in Morrowind. Worst combat I have ever seen in a RPG to date.

PS: About Oblivion if anyone knows.

1) Does it have a better combat system (auto targeting and REAL 3rd person option desperately needed)

2) Is its story line more straight forward the Morrowind?

Thanks for answers in advance!

PPS: KotOR1&2 and JE have really spoiled me far as storylines and user interfaces go. Can really see the problems in Morrowind after playing those 3 games.

On Morrowind:

1.Did you take the package to Casius? That's the start of the main quest.

2.It get's funner, but when you start out it sucks.

On Oblivion:

1.No auto target but the combat is improved, and the 3rd person view is slightly better.

2.It should be harder to get lost.

Basically, if you want a MMORPG but don't have friends, Morrowind is ideal for you!

Atleast you don't have to deal with people asking for free stuff.

Also, if you likes suck games.

Maybe your attention span is just too short?

Jeez, pixies, if you were desperate for a Xbox RPG, you could have gone for Jade Empire.

JE sucks, not kinding.

Fable wasn't bad.

And shepherds we shall be,

for Thee, my Lord, for Thee.

Power hath descended forth from Thy hand,

that our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command.

So we shall flow a river forth unto Thee,

and teeming with souls shall it ever be,

In Nomine Patris, et Fili, et Spiritus Sancti.

Hey, it was the first game I saw with the option to have a wife, and do things with her.......

Not that your ever got to see a damn thing, or that it would have been interesting if you had. Just that was something that I had always found missing in RPGs, is where's the wife/kids?

How about you spend less time telling me what to do, and more time pondering why I don't give two squirts what you think? =]

I didn't say I wanted to spend any time with them. I just wanted to know they were there. Big difference.

Also, if you note: I did not say it was good. I said it wasn't bad. As in, it wasn't Morrowind.

Slightly On-Topic: For the Morrowind GOTY Edition, install Tribunal or Bloodmoon first (after Morrowind itself)?

I took this job because I thought you were just a legend. Just a story. A story to scare little kids. But you're the real deal. The demon who dares to challenge God.

So what the hell do you want? Don't seem to me like you're out to make this stinkin' world a better place. Why you gotta kill all my men? Why you gotta kill me?

Nothing personal. It's just revenge.

But Volo liked it.

But if you get XML 2, then you can play it online with Kor and I, AKA Those two d00ds who still play that game .

There is a story to the game, and it's a really good one but it involves a hell of a lot of reading, which'll leave you wondering why you didn't buy a book instead.

The key books you need to read to explain the story need to be tracked down in "hidden" (sometimes not so hidden) librarys. I suggest you read everything.

To start you off, basically you're a prisoner that was released upon special orders from the Emperor himself. You and nobody has any idea why but you are given special orders to carry out (ie go visit the spymaster, whatever his name is and do his tasks). You'll find out more after that.

Just a warning though, if you're not up to a lot of reading or someone spoiling the entire plot for you, quit now.

There are none that are right, only strong of opinion. There are none that are wrong, only ignorant of facts

In Morrowind, you play however you want. You can keep it balanced or you can screw it all up. In a few minutes with the construction set you can change entire races and classes to your liking.

The story: You are possibly a reincarnation of the Nerevarine, a Messiah that will rid the world of Dagoth Ur and his following. The game lets you find out if you are the prophesied one or not. A series of events, including dying & surviving a plague, makes you the Nerevarine in the eyes of the people of Morrowind. You will need to learn about the history and culture of the native Dark Elves and "befriend" a few leaders of their tribes by undergoing a rather long series of trials that range from fetching things to killing beasts to escorting people and finding lost tribe members, all of which will allow you to gather the items you need to defeat Dagoth Ur and explore most of the Island of Vvardenfell.

To launch the storyline, you must head for Balmora and find Caius Cossades, a member of the Blades, which is a secret organization working under direct orders from the King. Caius's orders are to help you become who the King believes you to be(which is basically a hero powerful enough to defeat Dagoth Ur). The info you need for this is in your inventory... Or you could just complete quests, join multiple factions and explore the land until your character maxes out all the stats.

Get all the official Mods from Bethesda. This will tweak your journal(also available by getting the first and/or second expansion), give you extra armour, weapons, quests and other ways to move around the land, as well as patch a few other things.

Morrowind has almost become only about mods.

You don't like the combat? Get the enhanced combat mod. Find the visuals bland? Download the Beautiful Morrowind mod. It's all there, including difficulty tweakers, texture packs, buildings, landmasses, weapons, books, anything you can think of is there.

And it's a great game, a RPG that stays away from the D&D stuff(in it's original version, some mods can change that if you want...)

If you have the XBox version though, you are screwed :)

Welp I shelved it, just couldnt take the bordom of it.

Im all for wide open games but they still need to have a story to them and unless your willing to read unending pages of text in morrowind, you will never get the story line.

Think Ill skip Oblivion as well, read up on it and sounds to much like a FPS (no to hit rolls so character ability out the window, you control blocks (which sucks), doesnt seem like they put to much effort into 3rd person veiw again).

Why didnt they just make anouther FPS??????

To bad, when you read about Morrowind and Oblivion they definately have promise but the game play just bites!

PS: JE beat Morrowind on every catagory (except size) hands down. If it takes hating JE to like Morrowind, Ill gladly stick with JE!

Oblivion kind of merges the two. So blocking is more effective if your character has a good block skill and hitting does more damage if your character has good weapon skills.

Probably quite similiar to how they do it in sports games. You play the character but within the bounds of their abilities.

I have to agree with Volourn.  Bioware is pretty much dead now.  Deals like this kills development studios.

ES has always been first person; the 3rd person is just a vanity view, much like a flyby in a flight sim. You're really not supposed to fight from it. I mean, you can if you want to, but its not really meant to be used that way.

Please feel free to skip Oblivion as well. I'll skip JE2 and we'll both be happy.

Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.

I'm there! Its a plan. Kalfear skips Oblivion, I skip JE, Sniper skips both and Hades skips the werewolf. Everybody wins!

JE sucks, you see everything a mile away and if you played Bioware's other games than it just feels like the same thing but with a new coat of paint. And what the hell do you mean by an FPS? What have you've been smoking bro.

LOL seeing everything a mile away (and yes JE was predictable) still a better option then not seeing any story at all.

Like I said, just not willing to read that MUCH in a game. If I want to read a novel Ill read a novel =]

As for the "to hit" and blocking, just went off what official website said about oblivion. No more to hit at all, character skill only used for damage and you control your blocks, not your character.

But with the right interface it would still work (JE did after all, KotOR was better but JE was passable for combat), main complaint comes down to lack of storyline to follow and poor interface.
