Humodour Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 In the past year or so I've been pretty starved of good hefty RPGs to play. I've done the typical ones to death (IE games, FO series, NWN, KoTOR), however I'm quite sure I've missed one or two great games over the past 7 years or so. So what I am looking for is a list of the not so well known RPGs which you've personally played and enjoyed in the last 7 years. If I can find just one or two new great games to play from this thread, it will be worth while.
Kor Qel Droma Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Planescape: Torment is the first thing that comes to mind. Jaguars4ever is still alive. No word of a lie.
Atreides Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Get a console and try some of the RPGs out there. Some of the RPGs out there are really different from what you'd typically find on PCs. Broaden horizons and all that. Spreading beauty with my katana.
Hurlshort Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Is this for the PC only? I say go get some hall of fame mods for NWN. Did you play Morrowind? It's a different style, but a lot of people love it and it still looks great.
jaguars4ever Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Planescape: Torment is the first thing that comes to mind. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I believe that would fall under his IE categorization, Kor.
SteveThaiBinh Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 The Quest for Glory series' last game, QfG5: Dragonfire, just scrapes into your time frame with a 1998 release. The five games taken together are an epic RPG, and terrific fun to play, though the graphics are outdated now. "An electric puddle is not what I need right now." (Nina Kalenkov)
Meshugger Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 (edited) I recently played Baten Kaitos on the Gamecube, which was suprisingly good. Excellent soundtrack is also a plus. Edited October 30, 2005 by Meshugger "Some men see things as they are and say why?""I dream things that never were and say why not?"- George Bernard Shaw"Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man."- Friedrich Nietzsche "The amount of energy necessary to refute bull**** is an order of magnitude bigger than to produce it." - Some guy
Nameless One Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Anachronox...has some of the most memorable charcters, a very good story (set in cyberpunk-sifi), is extremly funny, and has the most entertaining cut-scenes ever (a machinima-film was made out of them, which won some awards at the machinima film festival 2002) gameplay-wise it's more a japanese-rpg in the way combat and charcter-building works but I never saw this as a problem but there are some: you have to patch it to enjoy it (with the latest unofficial-patch) you have to find it to buy it to play it some of the gameplay-mechanics will peeve you (but that's nothing in comparison with the joy you will have) and now some direct-linky-right-click-and-download-propaganda the trailer of trailers...when you don't like this you are probably a bad person this is a gameplay-trailer this one will show you the world (and parts of the world that got cut through, what is part of the never ending struggle between a publishers needs and and developers ideas)
Pidesco Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Arcanum is great. And awful too in some ways. "My hovercraft is full of eels!" - Hungarian tourist I am Dan Quayle of the Romans. CoM_Solaufein Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Arcanum. I like how it mixes fantasy role playing with the coming of the industrial age. roshan Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 First of all, the three greatest rpgs ever made: torment, fallout, fallout 2. Then you could try the baldurs gate and icewind dale series. If you want action rpgs, then nox, revenant, diablo and diablo 2 are all great. Other than that you can try septerra core.

Musopticon? Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Anything from Jeff Vogel http://www.spidweb.com/ kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. I had to fight against blood thirsty wolves and rabid penguins to get my food. Those who were too weak to survive were sent to Sweden. It has made me the man I am today. A man who craves furry hentai. So let us go and embrace the rustling smells of unseen worlds
Petay Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 (edited) Mus?, those games that you linked to on that page, are they buyable, or is that right there all they consist of, as in they are free games? EDIT: Ah, i see i should have looked around the site a bit first :"> Edited October 30, 2005 by Petay
Leferd Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. Jagged Alliance 2 "Things are funny...are comedic, because they mix the real with the absurd." - Buzz Aldrin."P-O-T-A-T-O-E" - Dan Quayle
mr insomniac Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Myth: The Fallen Lords, and Myth II: Soulblighter. Never played Myth III, so can't comment on it, and these aren't RPGs, but they're fantasy and great fun. I took this job because I thought you were just a legend. Just a story. A story to scare little kids. But you're the real deal. The demon who dares to challenge God. So what the hell do you want? Don't seem to me like you're out to make this stinkin' world a better place. Why you gotta kill all my men? Why you gotta kill me? Nothing personal. It's just revenge.
metadigital Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 I like to roleplay my games of chess. Sometimes I am a Pasha from the Eastern realms, or even Samuel L Jackson in Fresh, but mostly as Deep Blue ... OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
BattleCookiee Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 If you want action rpgs, then nox, revenant, diablo and diablo 2 are all great. Or more modern (and better): Dungeon Siege 1 and 2 Other suggestion would be Silver Unfortunately it doesn't work on a PC with XP, nor with one with a better card than a GeForce... So you need some old PC stashed somewhere to still play it...
mkreku Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Gothic, Gothic 2, Gothic 2 Gold (coming out in November and includes an expansion that's more of a totally new game) and soon Gothic 3 might be what you're looking for. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
Gabrielle Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. Jagged Alliance 2 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Bloodlines is good. Older games like NOX, Diablo are great.
Tel Aviv Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 You may think me a frigid puritan but, like bubble wrap, Hack 'n' Slash is the invention of the devil.
Baley Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 (edited) Nah mang,Satan would invent something totally sweet like Torment. Anyway, the new Bard's Tale was pretty funny. Edited October 31, 2005 by Baley

Haitoku Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Are you only talking about PC games? There are some really good console RPGs... But as for PC games... I played this really old RPG along time ago, its a pretty old Monolith game called "Septerra Core." I never finished it, but it was sorta interesting (from what I can remember).
