Atreides Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 How do you do it? I'm not a morning person and I usually end up late even with my radio alarm clock. Tips? Spreading beauty with my katana.
EnderAndrew Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 I switched to graveyard jobs. The only time I woke easily in the mornings was in the Marine Corps, where I was so exhausted during the day that I collapsed and slept well at night.
Kor Qel Droma Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 I'm supposed to be at work in ten minutes. Jaguars4ever is still alive. No word of a lie.
EnderAndrew Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 Conversely I'm at work. But when I go home I can't sleep. I gotta help take care of the baby and then take Sarah to class, and then pick her up from class. Not to mention wear her thongs while she is at class, but that goes without saying.
Darth_Riggers Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 I start a new job on Monday which is 40 miles from where I live, and because of the beauty of the British motorway system, I have to get up at 6 to be in for 9. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
mkreku Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 I don't need an alarm clock. I have an extremely annoying morning person of a girlfriend. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
Kor Qel Droma Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 Since we've done everything but answer your question, Atreides, let me share some usefull knowledge that I've figured out from fifteen years of shift work. 1. Go to bed early. 2. Stay away from naps. 3. Avoid things like coffee, carbonated beverages and such at least two hours before going to bed. I would say that if you're sleeping through the buzzer of your alarm clock, switch to the radio. If that doesn't work, try cranking the volume on your ac. That works for me a lot. Jaguars4ever is still alive. No word of a lie.
EnderAndrew Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 Also stop with the crank, meth and the like. It interferes with a natural sleep cycle. Or alternate wuth downers. Yep, uppers and downers are GREAT together. I'm going to be such a a great parent. Relax. I'm not going to advocate drugs to my kid.
Calax Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 Your attitude worries us on how young Zoe will grow up there Ender... I find that to wake up early you just have to stay up for a long time until at about 8 pm you collapse from exhaustion and sleep. then set an alarm and you'll be fine. Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! Kevin Butler will awesome your face off.
Deraldin Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 I have to get up early tommorow. I normally sleep till 8 and then rush to get to school on time. I have to get up two hours earlier tommorow so that I can get to school before the bus leaves for the trip without me. <_<
Surreptishus Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 There's no mystery to getting up early, get enough quality sleep and avoid stimulants.
Darth_Schmarth Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 I did it again last night. Came home tired and had a giant ****ing mega-meal to my name. Got all drowsy and thought I'd go to bed early, but not after I'd had some Cola (don't, okay). Then I'm lying there with my eyes wide open and fall asleep at 2 am, only to get up at seven. I hate me sometimes. ^Asinus asinorum in saecula saeculorum
EnderAndrew Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 I haven't slept. I have to be up for work in 4 hours, and I'm posting here.
Judge Hades Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 I usually head to bed at 11 PM and my body just wakes up at 6 AM. No alarms, no bouncing kids or cats, nothing. I just wake up. Its really annoying because I am most defintely not a morning person.
Krookie Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 I put my alarm clock on the other side of my room, this way when it goes off..I've gotta get up to shut it off.
Darth_Schmarth Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 That's what I used to do. Didn't work, since I just went back to bed and fell asleep again. ^Asinus asinorum in saecula saeculorum
Deraldin Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 I put my alarm clock on the other side of my room, this way when it goes off..I've gotta get up to shut it off. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I tried that once. It didn't work. I just ended up climbing back into bed, because it was cold out. "Just a couple minutes to warm up" and bam, asleep in 30 seconds. " So besides stimulants, anything else you should avoid right before going to bed in order to get a good sleep?
Darth_Schmarth Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 Something good before trying to sleep is sex. One thing less to try and keep your mind off, y'know. ^Asinus asinorum in saecula saeculorum
Dark Moth Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 (edited) So besides stimulants, anything else you should avoid right before going to bed in order to get a good sleep? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Playing video games. That sometimes gets me pumped up and makes it harder to fall asleep. Last night was an exception, but that was only because I was so tired anyway. That said, I am in no way, shape, or form a morning person. Edited September 29, 2005 by Mothman
Judge Hades Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 I put my alarm clock on the other side of my room, this way when it goes off..I've gotta get up to shut it off. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That never really worked for me. I usually end up throwing a nearby gaming book at the alarm and go back to sleep.
Kor Qel Droma Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 I don't need an alarm clock. I have an extremely annoying morning person of a girlfriend. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My ex had the annoying habit of setting her alarm two hours before she had to work ( at six in the morning) and then pressing the snooze button for an hour and a half. I'm a light sleeper who would be wide awake after the first time it went off. Jaguars4ever is still alive. No word of a lie.
Darth_Schmarth Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 I pull that stunt every morning (maybe not for an hour and a half, but for a good 45 minutes). ^Asinus asinorum in saecula saeculorum
Commissar Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 That's actually one of the worst things you can do, the snooze button routine. Place your alarm clock across the room, if possible. If it's really not waking you up, use a computer-based one with a metal track or something as the alarm, and pump your speakers all the way up. When I'm really worried that I won't make it up in the morning, I use Cordero - Vamos Nenas. Not metal, and it's in Spanish, and when it goes off at full volume, it definitely wakes you up. Actually getting out of bed is the key, and if you have to physically get up to turn off your alarms, that's the best start. You can function on a lot less sleep than you think.
julianw Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 You can function on a lot less sleep than you think. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'd say it depends on the person. Getting out of bed has never been a problem for me. To stay awake is the tough part.
