I drew and painted nudes for 2 years but it hardly did me any good. They never taught us any real tricks like "this is how you draw a foot" but rather just left us to not-evolve by ourselves.

I attended a high school "of the Performing and Visual Arts" and they never really taught me any techniques.  They just let me do whatever and marked me as such.  So, by the time I got into University, I was (still am, actually) quite behind in the markmaking department.

Vall and Kaftan I hear what you are saying. You are right in that most of the time at nude drawing classes they like people to "self explore" because they feel they would trample on your "artistic freedom" if they told you how to draw. I liked the class myself because you get a feel for the body as a 3D object which is hard to appreciate just from drawing from photos. As far as markmaking I think I know what you are saying, and believe me, I wish I had the fluid crisp lines of Adam Hughes, or the soft, ethereal colors of a Waterhouse. I think how we "make our mark" on the page is what differentiates each artist from another. Your style is not any less good than anothers. But yes, I think we all see styles that we like and wish we could emulate it. Believe me I certainly do all the time.

I am by far no expert, but if you go to places like the Sijun Forums (click on the speedpainting link for some great pieces) the people there can probably give you better tiips then I can, because a lot of them are pros. And if you want to know how to draw a foot, or how to draw a face so it looks realistic, then head on over to that Save Loomis.org place. Loomis will have you understanding human anatomy and drawing the human form more accurately in no time. I only wish I followed his instructions more closely!

Thanks for the linky, Harry!

Welcome, Julian. Thanks for showing me this place.

Ok, I said I would post a Carth picture tonight, but its a rough headshot only, done in Painter. Usually I'll pencil then scan, but I am trying to get used to using a tablet. I have a more involved picture in mind that I didn't have a chance to get down on paper tonight. I'll have to see if what I picture in my mind can be transferred to the blank page. Ah, there's the rub.

Ok now, can I be more of a windbag? No more long posts for me. Just lots of Bastila and Carth pics from now on . . . . .

One billion b-balls dribbling simultaneously throughout the galaxy. One trillion b-balls being slam dunked through a hoop throughout the galaxy. I can feel every single b-ball that has ever existed at my fingertips. I can feel their collective knowledge channeling through my viens. Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk, and free throw. I am there.

What tablet are you using? Im using a Wacom Graphire and I cant use it for drawing anything, the hand-eye feel is just wrong.

I have been planning to buy a Wacom Intuos3 but things walays come in between

I use an intuos2 and it works well. Its the first Wacom tablet I have owned. I had an Aiptek but it never quite felt right.

And I suppose I will have to do better to elicit a "squeal" the next time. By the way, is that how Carth pictures are judged? By the squeal level? Then I wonder what the Bastila equivalent of that is? o:)
