Article on the game.

Screenshots.

Thoughts?

Personally I think it sounds really cool, I hope they can pull it off.

Interesting concept... I do not really like the look of the game. However it looks a tad to cartoony. I would be however more interested in the developing of cultures and races and the possibility of intergalatic war. And home world power struggles as they advance through the ages.

That looks tootally spiff-tastic. Hopefully Will can pull it off, and hopefully I'll have a computer that can run it. (w00t)

Whatever he touches seems to turn to gold. He certainly has a sharp mind for great game concepts.

I too would like to see it a little less cartoony, art wise, but otherwise the gameplay and concept seem to be a excellent idea. I will wait a bit farther in development though before I make a call..

"I cannot profess to be a theologian; but it seems to me that Christians who believe in a super human Satan have got themselves into a logical impasse with regard to their own religion. For either God can not prevent the mischief of Satan, in which case he is not omnipotent; or else He could do so if he wished, but will not, in which case He is not benevolent. Fortunately, being a pagan witch, I am not called upon to solve this problem."

It looks like a bad acid trip. AVOID THE BROWN ACID!

Looks good.

This is a cool gaming concept

Looks like Sim Life, The Cool Version

It looks great. It reminds me a little of when I would breed sentient carnivorous plants in SimEarth.

I always tried for tricordates ;)

Well, it looks fantastic. The problem with games of this scope is that they never seem to be able to fulfill the expectations they build up around themselves. Everyone expects to be able to create worlds and life and end up with a crappy simulator with two controls. Let's hope they can make it as good as they want this time.

Well, according to the article, you design what things look like, he designed his stuff to look cartoony, you can design yours so its not.

Anyway, I so want this game.

I'm curious to hear what the devs think about how this technology could be applied to RPGs.

My thoughts exactly. While I'm not particularly interested in the game itself, the idea of integrating such dynamic content into RPGs is simply amazing.

Imagine creating your own custom weapons, magic, creatures etc. and have the world realistically adjust and react to them. Also, having a dynamic character generator could adjust the player's avatar according to his physical stats and even react to various in-game events. For example, you could get hit by a fireball and suffer burn marks or get slashed by a sword and retain the scars. Good stuff.

It basically feels like Sim Earth meets EVO - The Search for Eden. 'Meh' for now. Not that I didn't like both those games, but I'll believe it when I play it.

I think he described it as Pac-Man meets Populous meets Civilization. My only worry here is that if its as versatile as it looks, couldn't it put a lot of artists out of work?

Looks like the perfect sandbox game.

The game itself looks interesting and fun, but the way it was created is what has me excited. Such a cool idea.

Mindblowing. Sim Earth meets Populous meets Civilization meets Homeworld (hopefully)

the official site is up, http://spore.ea.com

not much there, but the intro anim is pretty cool

Conceptually, this isn't all that different than what's going on in the Sims world now. They have the infrastructure in place for you to share your (self created) Sim content; this is basically SimEvo :). What's really interesting is that the game "understands" physiology; design something (organic, structural, mechanical) and the game figures out how it (the thing that your created) reacts to it's virtual environment. That concept is so mind blowing, it is almost worth repeating... or at least reiterating ;). In any case, this definitely a piece of software (you could hardly call it a game) that's going at the top of my "buy" list!
