In the TV special : Empire Of Dreams Lucas joked that if Yoda didnt come out right then it would look like kermit or whatever running around in the movie...

the force is what gives a jedi his power. its an energy field created by all living things. it surrounds us and penetrates us. it binds the galaxy together

He is an Inek Shaban, from the planet Gazi Baba.

he's a Yoda

he's a Yoda

Or is he? I always thought he was a Vandar. ;)

- When he is best, he is a little worse than a man, and when he is worst, he is little better than a beast.

there is no official name, whil was used by some people, but officially there is no known name

What about Yaddle? What is she?

IIRC, Mr.Lucas said that Yoda's origins will never be revealed.

"Some men see things as they are and say why?"
"I dream things that never were and say why not?"

agreed databank research on Yoda came up with

Species:

Unknown

this is from the databank at starwars.com

so that is the cannon answer

maybe he's of the believed to be extinct race which brought hyperspace travel to the galaxy...

Rakatan?

I remember somone referring to them humorously as Yodians

hey why not? :ermm:

Just make up something, because Lucas doesn't know himself.

I thinks he a Whilli or Whillis (something like that)

And by the light of the moon

He prays for their beauty not doom

Whiiiiiilllis! Isn't that from the 70's? :p I do remember Yaddle from the movies, I think they showed her in episode 2, maybe 1, don't remember. It was very brief, kinda to show that Yoda wasn't the only Jedi of his species. We know that anyways because of Vandar.

One of the early star wars movies was known as "something something whils". Or something like that. "Whil" is the accepted term of the species by mudders and the like.

I believe all of their spiecies are long aged and force sensitive. It's just that they don't have many kids.

Fnord.

non this matters what matters is that Yoda kicks ass and no one can say otherwise cause they'de be wrong.

Sidious might have something to add when Ep 3 is released. ;)

It would be pretty cool if Lucas decided to give his race a name.
