JC Denton Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 Yes, but force storm and manipulation is almost required for a sith lord, and that soul transfer thing wasn't at all helpful. I think Palpatine gets way to much credit, to me, he's just an old man who took advantage of a corrupt government. Sadow and company started from scratch, and still lasted longer (I think) then he did once there was rebellion (or in thier case, a republic response).
Catalyst Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 I have to agree. Sidious merely took advantage of the circumstances at the time. Not once has he shown any ability that sets him apart from the other Sith Lords. Force Storm? Big deal, even Dooku can pull that off. Manipulation? I thought that is what a great many Sith were experts at. Destroyed the Republic? Yes, he did. And his 'Galactic Empire' lasted no more than 20 years, and was brought crashing down by a farm boy with a bowl haircut.
sandman1347 Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 Palpatine was perhaps the most crafty and secretive of all the Sith Lords because he took and maintained control of the galaxy without anyone knowing that the Sith were in power. That being said, if the EU is to be considered valid, the old Republic Sith were far more powerful beings than Palpatine. Naga Sadow and Exar Kun were even depicted as being able to create demons and monsters through using the force and could create mass illusions (like an entire fleet) that even the jedi could not see through. The jedi of that time also possessed greater power as they had abilities such as battle meditation that could effect large groups of people (not just one person at a time like Obi-wan's mind trick). Even so, I don't think it's fair to lump the movies and the EU into one pile. I think the nature of comics and video games, for example, is such that the characters become more powerful than you are likely to see in any movie. The EU writers have free reign to come up with whatever concepts they please and do not have to be concerned with George Lucas's actual intentions regarding the story. If I had to pick the most powerful jedi and Sith from the movies I would say Yoda and Sidious respectively. They are the eldest members of their order and exibit the most complete knowledge and control of their side of the force. Anakin is certainly not the most powerful. The whole tragedy of the story is that he could have been the greatest jedi ever but he was turned to the dark side and made into Palpatine's pawn before he ever fulfilled his promise.
Ever Faith Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Destroyed the Republic? Yes, he did. And his 'Galactic Empire' lasted no more than 20 years, and was brought crashing down by a farm boy with a bowl haircut. Evolutionary Development
SilverSun Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 And his 'Galactic Empire' lasted no more than 20 years, and was brought crashing down by a farm boy with a bowl haircut. Luke didn't bring down his Empire,Vader did. Pal had Luke beat,if it wasn't Vader then Empire would have won. But that was funny. :D
Catalyst Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Glad you appreciated it You could argue that Luke turned Vader (the apprentice) against Palpatine (the master) and that caused the fall of the Empire. But thats really off topic, and I'm sure theres a thread somewhere in these boards arguing over who caused the fall of the Empire... *goes to find thread*
Paladin Posted July 21, 2004 Author Posted July 21, 2004 I have to agree. Sidious merely took advantage of the circumstances at the time. Try this link for information on the Emperor:Star Wars DataBank The Star Wars DataBank refers to him as "the most powerful practitioner of the Sith ways in modern times." As for the comment about the Emperor's Force Storm I have never heard of anyone else doing it before. The Emperor's Force Storm is nothing like the similiarly named force power in KOTOR. The Emperor's Force Storm is a massive storm of energy created by the Force that can rip apart entire fleets (and Eclipse class Super Star Destroyers). In addition the Emperor could create Force Storm on other planets as when he used one to capture Luke.
ged Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Palpatine may have been a powerful lord when based simply on martial might, but he did not understand the uses of power. He wanted power merely for its own sake and as such lacked any real power, having only the weak stuff of what you can see and control for yourself. The most powerful sith, Exar Kun.
Idunnowhattochoose Posted July 22, 2004 Posted July 22, 2004 I agree, Exar Kun knocked Luke into a dark-side coma trapping his spirit between life and death.
Exar Dulo Posted July 22, 2004 Posted July 22, 2004 From the Movies Most cool: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Dath Vader Most Powerfull: Yoda, Tyranus, Vader, Mace Windu From the Games Most cool: Kyle Katarn, Jolee, Revan Most powerfull: Exar Kun, Marca Ragnos, Revan, Our Hero:)
Exar Dulo Posted July 22, 2004 Posted July 22, 2004 After all Anakin Skywalker was meant to be the most powerfull, but he was always unsure about what he does(whith some exceptions) by making many things that he regrets later. He lack real training and he was clouded by his Sith master -Sidious. I'm sure that with more real jedi training he would be far more powerful. I don't say siths cannot teach, but i'm lightsider and i think light methods are to better results.

SilverSun Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 He lack real training ... Wasn't so much a lack of as much as simply bad training.
Darth Nole Posted July 28, 2004 Posted July 28, 2004 hands down Luke Skywalker is the most powerfull jedi. Hold on hear me out, In the movies you never got to see his full potintel (however u spell it). But during the sequel trilogys 7-9 u really see what hes like if you look here (www.supershadow.com) u can read them. And most powerfull Sith would have to be Darth Sidious, YOU GET TO SEE HIM FIGHT YODA!!! in Revenge of the Sith and you will see then.
OLD SKOOL WHEELMAN Posted July 28, 2004 Posted July 28, 2004 I heard not to trust anything that super shadow says...and I think that they are right....
