Two random ideas

Recommended Posts

Just two things:

1. Either get rid of the space combat altogether, or change it so that it follows the same combat system as the rest of the game. For instance, your ship would be your "character" and you'd be able to assign it targets and waypoints. I'm just brainstorming, but there could even be ship upgrades and different weapons. Maybe you'd be able to comunicate with other escort ships, etc.

In other words, either eliminate the distraction that the space gunning was in the first KOTOR, or make it worthwhile by making it a strategy and role playing aspect of the game.

2. If there is to be a dueling ring in KOTOR2, I think it would make more sense if each opponent could only use one kind of weapon for a given duel. Like, it would be a blaster duel, or a sword duel, or a grenade duel, etc. to make it truly "dueling".

I prefer Thunderdome rules.

I hope they will rip out annoying space combat.I dunno why it was in kotor!

Because it is in star wars. <_<

Using a gamepad to control an FPS is like trying to fight evil through maple syrup.

It's nice of them to make that walk-around but that doesn't make a great deal of sense. Skirmish pilots aren't going to board a vessel and a larger ship wouldn't attach to a starship unless it was certain the engines were inoperable.

Maria- I haven't played Beyond Good and Evil, so I wouldn't know. But I will clarify.

mastaGAW- I'm all for adding variety to the game, and space combat is an excellent way to do that. However, the shooting that was in KOTOR was absolutely meaningless: It didn't affect the plot and it was always the same. There wasn't anything remotely tactical about combat. It really just got in the way.

And just because someone (namely me) thinks that the gunnery in KOTOR sucked doesn't mean that more direct control action shouldn't be part of the game: it should, and it should be better! The swoop racing was a lot more fun, although it could have been better too.

What I really think they should do is use a few separate game engines for the different aspects of the game. Use a racing game engine for swoop racing and an RTS or flight simulator engine for space combat.

There are any number of directions to take this, none of which will be incorported, but I can dream, right? You could be in control of the Hawk, commanding it, telling your team which targets to shoot at, while flying missions (this could have been used to get to the Star Forge in KOTOR1 instead of watching a cutscene). You could fly different ships on different missions a la X-Wing or TIE Fighter, sitting in the c***pit. You could do BOTH (which I would LOVE) like in Battlezone (remember Battlezone?)

Anything but the way it is now. Make it a feature of the game, not an afterthought.

Okay, maybe the last match could be an all out weapons fest, but it's a bit unrealistic to call it dueling when one guy's got a blaster and the other guys got a load of grenades, swords, and guns.

every contestant should be stripped off everything except his favourite weapon - whatever that may be.

a little bit like the box fight in Fallout2

I think a different version of ship combat would be nice... Perhaps actually flying the ship and having someone else control the gun turret? Of course, you could swap positions if you like... Or even let the AI handle both and use your battle meditation!

Yeah, that doesn't make a lot of sense. It's pretty obvious that there is no context check. But then again, you could use it like this:

Stop being such a c0ckpit.

What it really means, I don't know? But it sure sounds funny.

I believe it was a pair of boxing gloves with metal plates in them. Nothing like beating your opponent while maiming him too.

Edit: Instead of calling them c***pits, we should just start calling them dickpits to get around the censorship.
