You are telling me that a guy who is a game developer, who has multiple git repos based on id games (idTech4 stuff? idTech5 engine recreation? Quake4Doom? QuakeRTX? Quake Wars source reconstruction?), bought a vintage computer which just so happened to have an old, long lost alpha demo of a canned Quake 4 expansion on it? Right, we're having 32°C here right now, and I believe it's snowing. :DSeems highly implausible, but if (BIG IF) as an idTech enthusiast, he could search for and bought a "collectors vintage PC", from some company, who worked with idTech in the past, and which laid off half their staff, and ended up selling old **** without wiping clean their HDDs. Yes, I know sounds as implausible as the other theory, but this at least could make some sense PS: I am jealous of your 32°C 😭 Sent from my Stone Tablet, using Chisel-a-Talk 2000BC. August 11Aug 11 I dont know, it didnt seem that crazy to me. In my own garage are 3-4 hard drives that I still need to take a hammer to. 90F is definitely hot, especially if the humidity is high. Aside, its interesting to me that a lot of Europe doesnt have AC. Once the next sufficiently strong solar flare wipes our electronics, you will be the stronger population for these years of suffrage.

Once the next sufficiently strong solar flare wipes our electronics, you will be the stronger population for these years of suffrage.Days above 30 degrees Celsius used to be extremely exceptional for most of Europe. I recall having one of those on a year was newsworthy here in Belgium while I was growing up. Additionally it used to cool down during the night, meaning just opening the windows at night was plenty to keep houses at sensible temperatures with how well insulated they tend to be. So historically there just hasn't been much of a need for AC, something that has only started changing rather recently with the quickly accelerating pace of climate change.Anyway, to stay on topic, I've seen a load of posts suggesting EA is considering shutting down or selling BioWare after the sale. Apparently they've tried selling BioWare before so, yeah, that would be interesting. While it would be tempting to celebrate that the IPs could end up under better stewardship I'm not so sure anyone that could afford buying BioWare would be any better than current leadership, so yeah. Anyway "single source" and all that, but who knows, even on a good day I doubt BioWare's games bring in the big bucks, at least when compared to the sports games.
August 11Aug 11 They'll want more money for Bioware than they're worth. Even if they chuck in the IP, which for Mass Effect isn't a given. Sadly, a very good candidate for going the way of Bullfrog/ Maxis etc into the big EA dumpster in the sky. Few years ago MS might have been interested at least. Or maybe Greg and Ray will buy it back for a pittance.

But that's very unlikely now, and the more likely outcome is that EA holds on to the Mass Effect IP and just dumps the rest of Bioware into oblivion. 😢

12 hours ago12 hr A strong modding system can definitely keep a game relevant for years, but I think Obsidian's biggest strength is still its writing and world-building. Hopefully they get enough creative freedom to make the next Fallout feel like an Obsidian game rather than just another Bethesda-style open-world title.
