One of the first victims could be Hegseth. Republicans don't seem too happy with him, so an impeachment may even succeed. That means he'll probably be encouraged to resign before that happens.

Pete Hegseth may take fall for Republicans’ midterm losses, despite Trump support

I won't lose any sleep if that occurs.

Yeah he might become the scapegoat even though it was Trumps decision to attack Iran

Massies impeachments on Hegseth are more interesting. I just hope the next 2 years is not about the Dems focusing on impeachments because then you will find " angry lame duck " Trump and he will veto everything

That will become a waste of time and frustration for the next 2 years

Some of you may remember me mentioning the popular vote compact a number of times as the years have gone by. Well...chrome_QkdpXMwVdb.png

Democrats have finally achieved enough trifectas in state governments to enact the pact. The current compact sits at 222/270 electoral votes, but new additions of Michigan (15), Wisconsin (10), Arizona (11), and Pennsylvania (19) would push it to 277/270. This idiotic electoral college system can finally be put to an end.

Texas has sadly missed out on this opportunity, with Democrats winning the State House but narrowly missing the State Senate. It will deadlock legislation there, but...still, with Democrats in every statewide position, I have high hopes that much good will be done there nevertheless.

But will they?

We just had our municipal elections and Im overjoyed with the results

The DA the party I support did exceptionally well with taking control of 11 councils and is the largest party in almost all major cities but  no party got a majority so coalitions will be created. Except for Cape Town where the DA won by close to 60%

Overall votes were the ANC got 31% and the DA got 25%. In the last election the ANC got 46% and the DA 21% so its massive decline for the ANC

The DA had 1 million black voters supporting it which is great news because we slowly moving away from identity politics which doesn't help in South Africa where whites are a minority and the DA is incorrectly framed as a "white" party by its detractors and that's used as an attempt to get black voters to not vote for the DA

The racist, pro-Russia, " socialist "  and anti-white EFF only got 6% down from 10% in 2021. Also fantastic news

Other outcomes, for the first time the SACP (Communist party )  ran and they predictably were an epic failure with 2% of the vote

But overall excellent results for the DA but now coalitions will be formed which is fine

Appointing Miller as Chief of Staff bodes well for his lame duck period

Congratulations on your state kicking Boebert to the curb, @ShadySands. It was a long-time coming.

Everything I can see points to likely victories for Democrats in the Mississippi and Alaska senatorial elections, which puts them at 56 going into the 2028 elections. There's a lot of outcry for eliminating the filibuster, but it wouldn't serve much actual legislative purpose except for grandstanding since Trump would just veto. Not that grandstanding is completely pointless, as actually working on real legislation that you want to pass is good even if Trump just ends up vetoing it, but... I am guessing it probably will not happen with this particular group of senators. However, the 2028 map with a presumably unpopular outgoing Trump could very well make 60 a reality without even needing to touch the filibuster. Wisconsin's Ron Johnson and North Carolina's Ted Budd are two obvious targets for flipping, especially as both of them only just barely won their last elections in 2022 during the Biden midterms...after that, you would need two flips from some combination of Alaska, Iowa, Kansas...or South Carolina, or Florida. Hmm. Possible, depending on what the national environment turns out to be at that particular time.

It's nice to see some younger lawmakers for a change. The average senator's age is now finally below retirement age, at about 63. Woo. Praying that none of the Supreme Court justices retire during this lame duck period while they can still get replaced by Trump.

So the fool, as distinct from the scoundrel, is completely self-satisfied. In fact, they can easily become dangerous, as it does not take much to make them aggressive. For that reason, greater caution is called for than with a malicious one. Never again will we try to persuade the stupid person with reasons, for it is senseless and dangerous.

With the Dems in control of the Senate, I believe they will be in control of the SCOTUS confirmation process. That means they could return the favor for Garland.

Yes, but not during the lame duck period (i.e. over the next two months). One of them could retire now and they could very easily push through another confirmation.
