usa are passing their idiotic 4 trillion tax cut bill

most people should consider this level of self destructive tendency from the nation with second largest nuclear arsenal and highest military budget extremely concerning

Senate increased it to be 5 trillion. One rule that always seems to be true is that when politician say that they are worried of national debt they always lie.

Isnt Musk a US citizen, can Trump even do  that

Musk is not popular in South Africa and he doesnt like SA anyway so I cant imagine him living here

Yes, he's looking into how to strip naturalized citizenship from people; the DOJ has made that a priority. You know, rather than go after actual criminals like the people DJT's pardoned. Anyway, Musk can afford to live anywhere. I'm sure he'll find a new home and invest his billions there instead.

It still has to pass another vote in the House

And the Senate vote was very close, 50-50 so Vance voted

So annoying that our (Australia's) politicians seem to feel the need to carry on treating the USA like it's still a proper country.

How should Australia treat the US, whats an example of how Oz currently treats non-proper countries?

An example of what you mean is the easiest way to make your point

The " big beautiful bill " is still not guaranteed, pushback from some GOP representatives in this final House vote

We should know in the next 24 hours, exciting times

It's now being called the big spending bill, which is probably more apropos given that it's expected to add 5 trillion to the deficit. But at least the obscenely wealthy will be getting more money. Clearly a priority.

While the increased debt is a huge problem of many in this bill, it seems like it's the medicaid cuts that will be most disastrous. Obviously it will have direct consequences for the millions who depend on it to survive, but that's just the start, rural hospitals also depend on medicaid money to run at all, and the cuts will mean large areas of the US without access to any healthcare. Additionally, healthcare is the largest employment sector in the US and medicaid is one of the main sources of financing for the industry. So the economic consequences will also be catastrophic. Fun times for Americans, especially in MAGA land.

While the healthcare cuts are terrible and will cause many critical access (read: rural) hospitals and clinics to close (hopefully leading to as many completely unnecessary MAGA deaths as possible, though we regretfully know that there will be many affected who are anything but MAGA), I think the actual worst part of this bill is that it will increase ICE's funding by many times its current, and they're expecting to roughly triple its current workforce. Trump's secret police will be better funded than most countries' militaries, and I can't imagine there's anything else he wants more than his own private army that personally supports him and only him with the bill mostly footed by the taxpayers of all the states that he'll be unleashing them upon.

Against stupidity we have no defense. Neither protests nor force can touch it. Reasoning is of no use. Facts that contradict personal prejudices can simply be disbelieved - indeed, the fool can counter by criticizing them, and if they are undeniable, they can just be pushed aside as trivial exceptions. So the fool, as distinct from the scoundrel, is completely self-satisfied. In fact, they can easily become dangerous, as it does not take much to make them aggressive. For that reason, greater caution is called for than with a malicious one. Never again will we try to persuade the stupid person with reasons, for it is senseless and dangerous.

Drugmakers notch a $5 billion win in Republicans’ policy bill.

Quote

The sweeping Republican policy bill that awaits President Trump’s signature on Friday includes a little-noticed victory for the drug industry.

The legislation allows more medications to be exempt from Medicare’s price negotiation program, which was created to lower the government’s drug spending. Now, manufacturers will be able to keep those prices higher.

I was mostly just being facetious about what a ridiculous joke the USA is, about how absurd it is that they've turned into (even more of) a fascist police state with a bunch of Nazis in uniform rounding up people of colour and shoving them in camps, and the ridiculous rapist in chief came up with a bunch of tariffs by throwing his own faeces at a dart board, including tariffs on a number of countries with a population of zero humans, and some of our politicians were still criticising our PM for not getting an exemption to the tariffs, like they think Trump is an actual human being that you can reason with. And then when the genocidal war criminals that are the current Israeli government decided to bomb Iran for possibly allegedly getting closer to having nuclear weapons (that Israel almost certainly have), the same felonious rapist ignored the advice of his own intelligence agency who said there was no evidence that they had nuclear weapons, and went ahead and bombed them as well. And then our politicians got mad at Iran for 'escalating', and said that the USA was totally right to also bomb them.

You know, just cowardly boot licking nonsense like that. I mean, I kinda get it, our military alliance with the USA is important because our ADF is kind of a joke when compared against, say, China's, but I think it's time to accept that the USA is currently no one's friend and we should get some better ones.

Can I make a suggestion, rather be honest and say you dont like Trump?

The impression you create is that you like and support Trump and then I read a post like this and it comes across as you actually dont like Trump? Most people wont mind if you admit you dont like Trump, honesty is sometimes the best policy :p

Very progressive move, maybe Afghanistan should join BRICS because thats all about a better and fairer world and the Taliban represent that vision

In the USA, expenditure on health care has been steadily increasing over time relative to the national GDP. As of 2022, it is a 17%, compared to most comparable nations being ~11%. This growth is unsustainable, yet our political system seems incapable of switching to a more equitable healthcare approach. In order to motivate a change and overcome the medical industry's lobbyists, I strongly suspect that a significant number of people will need to suffer extreme medical costs (and likely die as a result). This is just an inevitable part of that process.
