I find as one ages farther and farther, there are two main types:
---those that increase healthy living to a quite large degree (or always did) and stay there
--those that increase it a little (by choice or circumstance) in an effort to at least not age too "poorly", but always constantly backslide into "no one lives forever/YOLO"

You can guess which one I am.
I try to be healthier than I was at 25, certainly, especially re: T2 diabetes, processed food/diet, some amount of exercise to try to stave off mobility issues etc, but at the end of the day I'm mostly rolling the dice with whatever genetics may have in store for me. I've had a good life so far - it's fine.

^I fall into the second category but I dont backslide. Im closer to the end than the beginning and dont want to be all busted up when I get to my retirement years so I exercise 3-4 times a week (just in my home, no gym membership here) but I dont "eat healthy". I just got my annual physical blood results yesterday, and despite my best efforts, Im healthy as a horse lol. I dont want to outlive my wife but Im 5 years older so hopefully that wont be an issue.

^^ I don't know what i did there.

Anyway, I guess I'm the same as I was in my 20s My theory is use my body as little as possible to reduce wear and tear. I do exercise, but only things i like to do, biking, swimming, walking etc., and probably only in the summer months. I do it for as long as it feels fun, a couple of hours a couple of times a week probably.

I don't take sugar with anything and rarely eat candy. I think the secret weapon is not giving a damn, I don't really have any health concerns other than that I could stand to loose some weight.

^ By "backslide" I mostly meant the inability to be religiously consistent. Moderate level of yo-yo-ing. Not a long term fall off.

Like, a super regular workout schedule/routine, every day/week. Or in terms of diet, two weeks "healthy", then can't resist whatever junk/fast/"bad" food for a couple days (pizza, not-low carb Chinese, whatever). Chocolate-stuffed croissants were invented by the devil and I will hoover those like a starving dog, then punch myself in the face for three hours after.

On the bright side, I discovered ChocZero. It uses monkfruit, which most of the time I don't like because of an aftertaste, but their biscuits and chocolate bars are "acceptable." For me they don't bother digestive at all and don't appear to produce big glucose spikes. So slightly less self-face-punching when I order some of those.

At least I was never interested in drinking/hard drugs. Nor parachuting, cave diving, auto racing, bronco-bucking etc.

But apparently, diet-Mt Dew is my biggest (mental) addiction. :P

There are times when I question whether a beer or a soda is a healthier drink option with my dinner. I'm pretty sure the beer is the better choice.

I think it's like with almost anything else in that kind of category. Under "normal" health-wise conditions, a couple sodas or beers or donuts once in a while is no big deal. It's unlikely to do any big harm. The problem comes when it's more of an addiction so it's more like 6+ a day or whatever and over 2-3 decades etc.

Hubby is basically a high-functioning alcoholic and has been forever. Started as a self-medication re: sleep apnea coping issues. When we were young, he'd drown in 2-3 pots of coffee in the morning/early afternoon, and by early evening/after work it was a six pack of beer. He's not a fall-down drunk with any major personality changes (maybe 1 beer an hour until bed, he only wants a certain level of it) but he's definitely an addict. He managed to cut down coffee to a few cups in the morning, but the beer - nope. He managed to quit for about a year once (just like my diet soda fixation), but that's it.

We are both "addictive/obsessive" personalities, I'm afraid. :D

Change controls at work have decided to take inspiration from 40k. A P1 occurred because we didn't have approval to make a 30 s code change to a stored procedure as we only had one approver available.

lol

On the bright side, I found some pencils I bought in 1998. Amazing how better quality they are than modern pencils I get now, even if they were cheapo Berol Eagle HBs from Staples at the time.

I need a better patio lounge chair.

In the wilds behind my place there seems to be a pack of coyotes that hang around. Every time an emergency vehicle goes past with its sirens on, the pack just starts howling those creepy noises coyotes make. It takes a while for them to settle down again.

Anyway, its a beautiful day out there, apart from all the cottonwood seeds floating about.

I need to find a good place to get my glasses prescription filled. It's been a while and the old place I used to go to has long since shut down. Any suggestions?

Amazon cutting off my veteran Kindle soon, which is annoying. Might get a new Kindle, although I guess I could get a Kobo - although that means buying books would make me have to use Indigo here, an equally scumbag corporation.

tbh I haven't used my Kindle in forever. Since I have a Samsung Galaxy+ thingy (with big screen), I found it just as good to read books on it than on my old kindle. No need for two devices, really. Before I had the big screen mobile phone, I was reading on my tablet - was fine as well, and in color, so comics and such were possible as well.

I use a Kobo reader and I love it, you have so many settings for reading that you can customize it however you want. That being said I never used kindle. You can buy your books from anywhere and just copy them to Kobo storage, although it would have to be drm-less and most importantly it supports epub.

Also the device support is amazing. I got my Kobo Forma a looong time ago and it's still getting updates.

The only thing that sucks is that you have to create an account to be able to use the device.

Think I will give Kobo a go, I still have a Fire so I suppose I can still get books from Amazon if need be.

Do you guys still buy books once in a while? Paper, I mean.

At this point reading on a device would probably be slightly easier - vs. holding a smaller book or bigger book on a lap - but I can't quite make myself do it still. Plus ofc not taking up physical space would be nice.

But I get too obsessive (like I am with all things) and read even giant novels quickly. Buying books (in any form) was and would become fairly pricey, fast. There's the library, but then I would lay them somewhere and forget about returning them until "well, you bought it now" charges. Hahaha I have five brain cells left.

I never liked the feeling of paper: sensory issue. I put up with it when I was young, but I haven't read a physical book in...um, okay, like 6 months because someone gave one to me to read, but besides that, a really long time, p. Generally, I only try to have physical items of things I already love and where the item itself visually presents as art that is meaningful to me, otherwise I really don't feel the need to clutter up my life with so much junk.

Against stupidity we have no defense. Neither protests nor force can touch it. Reasoning is of no use. Facts that contradict personal prejudices can simply be disbelieved - indeed, the fool can counter by criticizing them, and if they are undeniable, they can just be pushed aside as trivial exceptions. So the fool, as distinct from the scoundrel, is completely self-satisfied. In fact, they can easily become dangerous, as it does not take much to make them aggressive. For that reason, greater caution is called for than with a malicious one. Never again will we try to persuade the stupid person with reasons, for it is senseless and dangerous.

I got this a while ago, still waiting on it to arrive. I do buy books for things I really enjoy, but I don't read paper much anymore, unless I have the book already.

If it's a good book, yah. I am running out of space otherwise. Books have the nice perk of not being subject to post purchase changes from Amazon or whoever, heh

Watching Eurovision today, for some reason. Also was listening to some Russian music but it's actually propaganda (Слаава ВДВ)

Worst show in years. Very well deserved last place though for the UK. :p

Eurovision chose to incite hate against Israel.

Yeah, second place behind Bulgaria. What a slight.

FYI, at least with the libraries around here, you can now download the library books to your e-readers.

Reminds me of how I had to read the Witcher books, ended up finding an English fan translation of a French fan translation of a German translation of them. Like Case's PPK in Neuromancer but worse.
