A bit of mutual back scratching. Musk purchased votes for Trump and Trump gives Musk a role where he can crack down on workers rights to make Tesla more profitable...

The BBC had that story too

https://www.bbc.com/news/live/cnvjr42yq39t

"Donald Trump appoints Elon Musk to 'efficiency' role and Fox News host as defence secretary"...

You can't make this stuff up 😂

At least Musk, unlike Trump, is a successful businessman regardless of what else can be said about him.

Apparently there is lots of inefficiencies in the US Federal system and Musk is going to address that

But the word " inefficiencies " is subjective for me living in SA because of  our overall subpar  public sector delivery

Im sure most South Africans would be more than happy with any first world public sector "inefficiencies   " around contractors

We just want thing to work as expected, I have even heard some  South Africans say things in desperation  like " we would accept  the corruption around tenders awarded and contractors  as long as things work"

But we end up  with the worst of both, corruption and failure to deliver on many public sector services

I'm fairly sure the target isn't corruption, but as mentioned in article, get rid of regulations and rules (for business conduct). Say welcome to a new social class, the serfs, in the US

Edit: Let's be honest, Musk is not known to care about his employees beyond squeezing every last drop of life force out of them and then discard them. Claiming anything else is being deliberately obtuse

Sure  but  when  I say inefficiencies that can be linked to corruption. SA has a corruption problem that is exacerbated by lack of governance and oversight which is not  necessarily corruption in itself

So for example every single year most of the municipalities , with the exception of the Western Cape where I live and run by the DA, fails the auditor-generals report ....and the same municipalities fail it year after year. Its not necessarily because of corruption but things like wasteful expenditure or irregular expenditure. And yet its identified but the situation doesnt change

So from your link Musk says things like  "He claims 99 federal agencies is "more than enough" - there are currently over 400 agencies and sub-agencies. "?

How would he really know 100 agencies is enough but this an objective around efficiency

And then he says " The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) will "dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure federal agencies"

So he seems to think he can streamline the Federal government and make it more effective. I think his objective is well-meaning but I dont think its based on proper facts or  an understanding of the mammoth  task in front of him?

Just speculation on my part now, so take with a grain of salt, solely based on Musk's personality...

The first things to disappear will be things like The Occupational Health and Safety Act (too much red tape for what businesses are allowed to expose workers to), The environmental impact analysis for construction projects (who needs drinking water anyway when The Coca Cola company sells bottled water), the much hated federal minimum wage etc... (never mind that more than half the states have local minimum wage laws that are higher) because they all impede the growth of share values.

now billionaire have their pet president again

efficiency of funnel more budget to their megacorp would surely increase

corruption would be redirected at best

multiply out of control at worst

again only thing can save people is the vain hope they are too incompetent to do too much damage in 4 year

Thats all possible for Musk, its obviously a very negative prediction  on what he can and will do but I agree its possible

I wonder if he will touch something like the  Federal minimum wage?

Its complicated and wont apply in all cases but I can believe there would be cases of real discrimination against white people in the US

Sort of funny how quickly things move to get the white guys restitution, though.

Its because the allegations of discrimination from  DEI  are towards  white people and from white people as far as I know

Also its not really something new, its just something that the GOP is likely to champion but the Dems would ignore?

Just for the record Musk is not a particularly successful businessman. He is just, like most multimillionaires, rich enough to be effectively immune to all the stupid crap he has done to his businesses.

He is more successful than Trump, but that is such a low bar you'd have to be shorter than the Planck length to limbo under it.

I see DJT has been carefully assembling his crack(pot) team. Rubio is the only one I can take seriously thus far, but there's a couple I don't recognize so we'll see I guess.

As soon as Trump won, I committed to not reading the news until at least the midterms, and I've made good on of it so far outside of occasionally peaking in this thread. I just don't think it's going to be healthy for me to even glance at headlines, and the very little that's been posted in here sure is proving that.

Coincidentally, I set my current avatar on the day that Biden dropped out, and it's proved very appropriate so far.

How I have existed fills me with horror. For I have failed in everything - spelling, arithmetic, riding, tennis, golf; dancing, singing, acting; wife, mistress, whore, friend. Even cooking. And I do not excuse myself with the usual escape of 'not trying'. I tried with all my heart.

In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.

I see Thune won the Senate leadership race, he was not the  MAGA pick because that was Scott

A better choice than Scott and interesting how the vote is done in secret

I wonder what DJT has in mind for MTG? If I had to guess, I'd say Secretary of *COUGH*racial purity*COUGH* Homeland Security.
