The prologue is dark, I mean really really dark. I don't just mean the tone of the story, I mean visually it's really dark. So much so that I was tempted to crank the brightness setting on my TV (I didn't).

mic5LVI.jpeg

The oppressive darkness and Laura's feeble phone flashlight work really well with the atmosphere.

This game has the best facial animations I have ever seen in a vidya game, and it's not even close.

9CVuyU3.jpeg

It's comparable to LA Noire in how much better the facial animations were compared to everything that had come before it, The Quarry is a similar leap forward 11 years later

This is definitely the best looking game I've played on xXxBOxXx, or anything for that matter.

bfbJ7EC.jpeg

It's not just the graphical fidelity, though it's certainly not lacking in that area, it's the lighting effects, depth of field, little particles of dust in the air in a light shaft, it's all really well done.

PoxGYV4.jpeg

Given that this is a very cinematic experience, it's an interactive movie essentially, it's a lot easier for Supermassive Games to push the limits than the mountain of open world games. Everything here is very controlled and scripted, the devs know exactly how many characters are going to be on screen at any given moment.

EWEi1LL.jpeg

Scripted and linear has its benefits.

Assetto Corsa Competizione

This is the most famous section of Laguna Seca Raceway with the blind turns and hardcore elevation drop. I'm just practicing for now to get the feel of my wheel and the car (2019 911 GT3) down. My best ever lap so far is 1.28.68 while the record is 1.24.02. Once I can consistently run 1.27 and 1.28 laps I'll do an actual race.

Edit: I posted a 1.27.75. If I can post laps like that consistently then it's race time.

I tried to get farther in that Guardians of Galaxy game (since I barely got off the intro-ship section), but there are too many sorta-like-QTE's  - including in the middle of chattery dialogues - and "forced movement/path" moments. Plus the chrs. are constantly talking as you move along, that drives me crazy. Dunno if it lessens later but ... still, Rocket will never not be cool.

Also - haven't played it in a while but whenever I run into those blue toothy creatures in Biomutant I feel like Blue Meanies had babies or something.

"Texaco 1-1, this is Enfield 1-1. Switch is safe (Master Arm switch set to 'safe'), nose is cold (radar set to 'Silent'), looking for 8K (pounds of gas)"

"Enfield 1-1, Texaco 1-1, proceed to pre-contact at angels 20 at two two zero."

S4LHq7o.jpg

Line abreast with my wing-man. Wing sweep set to "Bomb" mode, which fixes both the flaps and the wing sweep to 65 degrees

K4WQVki.jpg

Refueling probe extended "Ready pre-contact."

E7aGspu.jpg

"Cleared contact." the KC-130 announces as it extends the refueling drogue.

aO7adbP.jpg

The Tomcat briefly shudders in the burble of the Hurc, but quickly recovers...

E7aGspu.jpg

The golden rules for aerial refueling -

1. Pick a fixed reference point on the refueling aircraft and keep the basket in your peripheral vision as you approach, but never "chase it".

2. Use minute movements on stick, rudder, and throttle as you approach and make corrections.

3. Approach slowly, but above all else keep it smooth, lest you fall into a feedback loop of oscillating corrections that will force you to back off and attempt another approach.

4. If you have to back off and take a breather, wiggle your toes!

3m6tQnT.jpg

"Little left." The RIO (Radio Intercept Officer) advises as he leans right in his seat, walking me into the basket as I fixate on the refueling pod the hose is being unreeled from.

r9tHVnb.jpg

"Keep her steady."

POF5FQA.jpg

"Contact." the KC-130 announces.

"We're plugged. That'll put out our thirst." the RIO exhales triumphantly.

zLuRScN.jpg

"You're taking fuel."

Wk1x818.jpg

"Fuel thirteen thousand... Fuel fourteen five-hundred..." The RIO reads the fuel gage over the next several minutes for what seems like an eternity as I struggle to keep the aircraft steady.

Tq8vkwm.jpg

"Transfer complete." the Hurc declares.

sNDzHni.jpg

"Disconnect." I back out of the basket and while the Hurc retracts the drogue, ready to unspool the hose again once my wingman is in position.

Taking position besides the Harriers we were escorting while my wingman tanks up.

in the hundreds of hours I've spent in DCS I never tried aerial refueling 🥲
now that I think about it I don't remember the last time I landed a plane safely  😂

It'll take practice but you can get there. For aerial refueling as mentioned in my post use a fixed point of reference on the refueling plane while keeping the basket in your peripheral vision and above all keep it _smooth_.

Before my first ever one-plug refueling session many KC-135s, KC-130s, and S-3s were shot down in frustration.

Still playing Elden Ring, after 200 hours I'm roughly half way through the game, enjoying most of it, though some bosses are becoming really annoying (tree spirits be damned!)

To keep myself from going insane I swap Elden Ring for Genshin Impact from time to time, and while the game is just a poorer Zelda clone, it can be cinematic

Also - you can still cast spell/s (like a big, huge AoE, or anything else) while in "fight for your life", which makes getting a 2nd-wind a lot easier/faster. Just sayin'.
