Yas! This helps with my plan to work from home until I retire.

They wouldn't let you WFH otherwise ?

I think they notice that were conducting business as usual even WFH, but I suspect we will have to come back to the office if this ever blows over. ;( Luckily for me, theres a new variant every few weeks. We'll never fully eradicate it. 🤞 Its the new "cold".

Well, until we get a variant that kills you 😛

My company is very open to WFH, even before all this, luckily.  Our new office is 100% hotelling, so nuts to having to book a desk near my teammates every week or whatever.  Been happy not seeing any of them for 2 years

Should I stay or should I go now... (insert Clash tune)

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-59889522

"Tennis star Novak Djokovic has had his visa to enter Australia dramatically revoked on his arrival in Melbourne.

The world number one was held in the city's airport for several hours before border forces announced he had not met entry rules and would be deported.

He has reportedly now been taken to a government detention hotel pending his departure on an outbound flight."

Who would have thought a federal government could be useful when state authorities fails badly?... Such a rare sight, that's worth it alone to mark a red circle around the date 2022 in the calendar.

Edit: He somehow managed to convince the Australian Open organizers it would be worth it to let him flaunt the rules and **** over the average Australian, because he's someone "special", but immigration (and visas) is run by the federal government, and he didn't meet the visa requirements, even if eligible to play.

Edit2: I suspect it has something to do with massive public outrage and the federal elections coming up this year. The government was already under heavy fire for selling out to the rich and famous the past two years, where Hollywood and sports stars could come and go as they please (with the federal governments blessing), whereas ordinary Australians couldn't even say last goodbyes to dying kids living just across a state border and tens of thousands of Australians stranded abroad who couldn't return home.

But Gorthfuscious lets be honest, this whole thing has become sensationalized and now your politicians are grandstanding and pandering to the " outrage expressed by the Oz public  "

Do you really care if Djokovic has been vaccinated? He is a sports celebrity and this is about a sports event, we want to see him play

Besides you guys are about 80% vaccinated, he is not going to bring some new variant and spread the virus ?

I care when people use their celebrity status to grandstand against vaccination. In case  you missed it, Djokovic is against anyone being vaccinated and it’s a personal campaign against vaccinations on some twisted ideological grounds. He’s mocking the people who died from or lost loved ones to covid. The piece of **** can take a hike as far as I care.

I didnt know he was mocking people who died from the virus, thats appalling

But apart from this Djokovic incident how do you personally feel about governments being strict and banning celebrities from coming to a country who are unvaccinated but the country has  a high level of vaccination?

If I can give you an example, lets say Brisbane was hosting the  "Global Porn Star Awards " , and you have VIP tickets to the afterparty, and it turns out maybe 20-25% of the girls hadnt been vaccinated. Would you insist that they get blocked from entering Oz ?

And this applies to all international sports and entertainment events hosted by your country

Bruce... I believe in one set of rules that has to apply to everybody equally. That people are celebrities (including porn stars) doesn't change my opinion. You want to visit a country, follow the local rules. End of story. I know the liberal party made a lot of exceptions the past two years, bending over backwards for celebrities when they thought it profitable. But Morrison being a piece of lying filth, doesn't change my own values (i.e. all being equal in the eyes of the law, rules, regulations, whatever)

Not that I'm defending Djokovic and his weird lifestyle, but as far as I know he is pro choice and has not been advocating for people to not get vaccinated.

As for what is happening right now, the biggest blame here can be laid on Australia. If you set the rules then stick to them and not do a 180 as soon as people get pissed off. They have even imprisoned another tennis player for deportation who already played a match in the tournament... Wonder what will happen with the other players who got in on the same visa.

Also I'm laughing at France schadenfreude-ing from this whole situation. They are really pissed off about that submarine deal...

Technically that was just for playing at the Open, not getting into the country. Getting into the country is a Federal matter in Aus, and they're the ones making and enforcing the rules. Still, pretty stupid of the Open organisers not to make it absolutely explicit that that was the case, and there do seem to have been some... flexibility in terms of who the rules were enforced for at the Federal level.

(I don't think there's any doubt that the whole thing was engineered to make Australian PM Scotty F. Marketing look decisive in the run up to an election where the last couple of weeks even had Murdoch press turning on him for his abject failures in dealing with covid. It's just way too convenient a set up)

Sarex why is Novak still not getting  his vaccines, he is a sports superstar and people wanted to see him play yet he travelled to Australia with a exemption that wasnt credible? Oz is extreme and unapologetic about certain immigration policies so this to be expected

What is the percentage of vaccinated people in Serbia and do people generally follow the general advice about the virus like mask wearing ?

He and his wife are a bunch of weirdos, he is into some spiritual stuff. But even if they weren't, half the people here are not vaccinated. As to why he personally doesn't want to I can't say, I don't know him. He probably had the virus and was asymptomatic, so he doesn't get anything from it.

As I said a little under 50% are vaccinated, as to following general advice, from what I saw more do then don't.

Interesting, its disappointing he might not play because I think most people outside  of Oz arent that concerned he hasn't been vaccinated. Even if he may have  the virus its not like  he can create a wave because of the high level of vaccination ....I feel this decision is technically about the Oz rules but I also think its an overreaction

SA is 34% so you guys are way ahead of us.  We have hit a wall with trying to convince people about the efficacy of vaccines  but life is returning to normal and all businesses and places like clubs are open and we have no more curfews but mask wearing is mandatory

Is Serbia going to move beyond 50 % because for me I think in our countries we must learn to live with  the virus and all you can do is get double vaccinated and then boosters in 6-8 months? Is life returning to normal in Serbia generally ?

I don't follow tennis, so at the end of the day I'm not that invested. As Malc said, I don't shed many tears for millionaires.

I doubt the number will change much. From the start we never had issues with vaccine supply, so whoever wanted to get it got it. The number may change for scenarios where people need to travel and want to avoid the hassle, but I imagine that would be on the level of a statistical error.

It does have to be said, the Australian rules are pretty weird, now that they're not even approaching covid zero- 120k domestic cases, and that with saturated testing capacity so it may be a lot higher. They were meant to be going full let it rip on the international arrivals front fairly soon and one of the reasons omicron got out so quickly there was that NSW had already relaxed isolation rules for international arrivals. They have so many domestic cases active it's barely worth worrying about a few imported ones, especially for someone who could probably afford to build himself a hospital if he got sick. Still, you really need to dot the i's and cross the t's with Australia's Border Force, and anyone who has dealt with them previous should know that.

Djokovic has already had covid, the media made a big deal about him organising a tournament (tournaments, as it turns out, though they were cancelled part way through the second of five) and it then having an outbreak there involving him and his wife. IIRC Australia does have an exemption policy for proven recovered cases based on natural immunity, but that would be (just, checked and it was late June 2021) outside the 6 month accepted time frame for an exemption anyway. Might explain some of the confusion and possible basis of an appeal though.
