Yeah, I literally *just* moved to Windows 10 a few months ago after building my new PC. It's a special cut-down stable version of Windows 10 with only security updates enabled called Windows 10 LTSC, but I did finally do it. Quote How I have existed fills me with horror. ComradeYellow Posted June 16, 2021 Posted June 16, 2021 Eh, I'm sure 4 years from now we'll have bigger concerns than the pros and cons of Win11 so IT IS WHAT IT IS.
Sarex Posted June 16, 2021 Posted June 16, 2021 I made my peace with the direction MS is taking Windows after 7 came out, so I am not really concerned with anything after. "because they filled mommy with enough mythic power to become a demi-god" - KP
Malcador Posted June 16, 2021 Posted June 16, 2021 Surprised no Linux user popping in here like a vegan to let us know they use it As for Win11 and me, it is what it is, wonder what else MS will needlessly change. 1 1 Why has elegance found so little following? LadyCrimson Posted June 16, 2021 Author Posted June 16, 2021 ...I don't like the centered taskbar, although hopefully you'd be able to change it. ...they will really push MS account login and some stuff can't be used/accessed without it (altho most of that I wouldn't care about/use myself - you can still make a local account to install/most use). ...I'll never understand why some ppl get excited/aggravated re: design elements like rounded corners and window-opening animations as if it's newsworthy updating. ...he does address the possibility it's all an elaborate fake at the video end, and/or ofc even if not, it could change before release. “Things are as they are. I don't think I ever really got excited/aggravated by windows. As to why talk about Windows-asthetic choices - because it is how I differenciate one Windows from another as a casual user. I am sure there are much much more important differences, but frankly I am not likely to notice much change, beside how start menu and windows looks like (plus having to re-learn how to find various options that is always a rather frustrating process)
Sarex Posted June 24, 2021 Posted June 24, 2021 They are pushing the unified devices OS again with more focus on touch... We'll see how it works out for them this time around. I suspect that they will try to push the Windows phone again soon. "because they filled mommy with enough mythic power to become a demi-god" - KP

Bartimaeus Posted June 24, 2021 Posted June 24, 2021 The question most important to me: will there be an LTSC or equivalent version of Windows 11? At this point, I don't think I'll run anything that isn't LTSC on my personal devices due to how ridiculously pushy Microsoft has gotten about stupid crap in the non-LTSC versions. I did hear they're releasing another (final?) LTSC branch of Windows 10 sometime later this year, and it's about time too, since the last one was in late 2018. Hoping they didn't do anything dumb with that... Quote How I have existed fills me with horror. Zoraptor Posted June 24, 2021 Posted June 24, 2021 I find it extremely funny that my computer is not ready for win11. (due to not having recent enough NSA spyware, of all things)

Bartimaeus Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 Home for Windows 10 is like, the free edition. You can't even use Group Policy Editor on Home. You get what you pay for. ...On the other hand, this is undoubtedly just further pushing Windows to eventually drop local accounts outside of specialized business editions (e.g. LTSC) at some point altogether, so I guess I shouldn't be so blase about it. 1 Quote How I have existed fills me with horror. LadyCrimson Posted June 25, 2021 Author Posted June 25, 2021 I think a lot of people, even with systems built a couple years ago, may not be "ready" for Win11. At least from reading around on forums. There are supposedly steps that some can do to workaround requirements (whether it will still work on full version vs. that leaked version, who knows) but ... Some people just need to tweak their BIOS settings I guess because some of those things aren't turned on by default ... that might be my case too. I haven't checked and don't care. For myself it'll be like Win7-Win10 ... if I feel like getting Win11 three or fiveyears from now, I'll just build a new rig dedicated to it. To be honest tho, while I still love hardware porn (haha) in terms of actually using PC's - I'm starting to wonder how much I really care about desktop building in the future. I care less and less about gaming/keeping up with gaming, or doing anything with PC's in general, outside of internet browsing/multimedia, and a console, TV, or tablet can do that. >.> 4 hours ago, Malcador said: Needing an MS account is irksome. Yeah ... I don't like that either, even if I wouldn't use most things that (right now) would absolutely require logging into it (I haven't touched MS-Store or any "app" even once). But it's a hint that at some point they're going to want you to be logged into MS account 24/7. “Things are as they are. Zoraptor Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 Can't see a MS account as being a massive issue by itself (though see below), the big issue would be a constant internet being required (which isn't). Then again, I already have a MS account so it literally isn't an issue for me, so easy to say that. The supported processor list actually starts at Intel 8000 series/ Zen+, not a 1 Ghz dual core listed due to the TPM requirement. Sure, there are workarounds, but the average user isn't going to muck about with their BIOS to enable an obscure option as they've never done anything in BIOS before and have no idea what those arcanely named options mean. They don't actually need TPM to be a requirement, unless they don't want to sell windows in Russia or China any more (since it's backdoored extensively by the NSA) and don't want adoption by corporates. Maybe another run at getting Secure Boot implemented, especially with the account requirement as well?

Bokishi Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 I got like 5 PCs but could only officially install windows 11 on 2 of them (the newer ones). I mean Intel 6700K and 7700K are not bad cpus, wonder why they are unsupported Current 3DMark
Zoraptor Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 Supposedly it's TPM version that is the problem, same as with Zen original. And for anyone who doesn't know- and pretty unsurprisingly- there's a workaround for using unsupported hardware with win11, direct from MS.
