InsaneCommander Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 How cool is it that I'm using Vailian words to name my ships and the game recognizes it? 15
Tick Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 That's awesome haha. Indirectly, I've seen the game act kind of silly because it seems to auto-recognize keywords/phrases. E.g. an ability grants "Barring Death's Door," and only death is highlighted, explaining the mechanic of companions and the player dying in the game. 2
Tarlonniel Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 I keep running into references to the Vailian Republics which are instead linked to Old Vailia because of that auto-recognition script. Vailia will rise again, I tell you! 2
omgFIREBALLS Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 The hell, I had a ship named Gellarde for a whole playthrough and never noticed this. 1 My Deadfire mods Out With The Good: The mod for tidying up your Deadfire combat tooltip. Waukeen's Berth: Make all your basic purchases at Queen's Berth. Carrying Voice: Wider chanter invocations. Nemnok's Congregation: Lets all priests express their true faith. Deadfire skill check catalogue right here!
InsaneCommander Posted June 16, 2018 Author Posted June 16, 2018 Yes, I've seen those things too, keywords and Vailian/Old Vailia confusion. Btw, you know that island with the Woedican temple? I made a homage to her: Galohi is Huana for "idiot". 9
Purudaya Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 I do wish the game would automatically append "the" when referencing my ship's name, though. No one says "we're sailing off on Gellarde" – it's a ship, not a pet... 1
Shadenuat Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 (edited) I think it might be slightly buggy just like anytime you find "will" in some descriptions with a capital W, it pops up the hint on Will defence. And I just name all my sheps "Roach". Edited June 16, 2018 by Shadenuat 5
Tarlonniel Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 When I was a sailor, I learned that you're only supposed to call a ship "The So-and-So" when "The" is actually part of its name. Otherwise, it is indeed just "So-and-So." For what it's worth. 3
InsaneCommander Posted June 16, 2018 Author Posted June 16, 2018 I'm considering Auret Vidorio (Golden Victory) and Galohi Nui for the other boats. And maybe naming a future fire Godlike watcher "Fiace" (Flames) on a later playthrough. 1
Tick Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 I like the idea of naming your own character via the other in-game languages! Especially if the character has a name that matches the culture. E.g. a Valian word for a Valian character.

bugarup Posted June 17, 2018 Posted June 17, 2018 (edited) And here I never ever bothered to name my ships. Oh well, still not too late to rename my flagman to Bazzo Nasenale. Edited June 17, 2018 by bugarup 1
Slotharingia Posted June 17, 2018 Posted June 17, 2018 My current ship is named Flatulence to delight my inner 12 yr old. 4
Casper Posted June 17, 2018 Posted June 17, 2018 if i posted a few of the names i gave to a few of my islands... i think i'd likely be banned. lol Yesterday, upon the stair, I met a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today, I wish, I wish he'd go away... -Hughes Mearns
bugarup Posted June 17, 2018 Posted June 17, 2018 My current ship is named Flatulence to delight my inner 12 yr old. My SWTOR Sith Warrior Darth Flatulenza would approve of your ship. 3
Casper Posted June 17, 2018 Posted June 17, 2018 (edited) to name a few of my ships... i guess my favorites would be "the Specter of Caed Nua", followed by "the Dread Harlequin", then "Iovara's Defiance", and finally "the Fortuitous Fulcrum" Edited June 19, 2018 by Casper 4 Yesterday, upon the stair, I met a man who wasn't there. Parasol_Syndicate Posted June 17, 2018 Posted June 17, 2018 Whispers of Yenwood is no more, it was forged into a larger sword. In honor of this, my Junk was dubbed Yenwood's Roar. if I get the submarine this time out, it'll be Death By Ekera Magran's fire casts light in Dark Places...
InsaneCommander Posted June 17, 2018 Author Posted June 17, 2018 And here I never ever bothered to name my ships. Oh well, still not too late to rename my flagman to Bazzo Nasenale. "Captain Furrante! The Bazzo Nasenale is coming behind the Gentleman of Leisure at ramming speed!" 7
illathid Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 I named my Galleon Abydon's Hammer, as I'm still a bit salty I didn't get it back. 1 "Wizards do not need to be The Dudes Who Can AoE Nuke You and Gish and Take as Many Hits as a Fighter and Make all Skills Irrelevant Because Magic." -Josh Sawyer
Tarlonniel Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 My favorite ship name so far is The Pyre of the Gods. I think I'm going to stick with that one. 1
Fredward Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 When I finally got the ghost ship I named it The Black Tear in honor of that guy who swallowed the pearl but it never seems to show up, pretty pouty about that tbh.
Myrtillo Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 My first watcher was sailing the Lady Framboise. My current one captains the Orangotango.
Porcelyn Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 No one else went Boaty McBoatface? Not yet but I named my chants Songy McSongface and Songy McSongface jr. 2 Atsura, the intelligent Psychopath of my dreams. I like my elves grumpy and my godlike fishy! And my Rekke romancable!
InsaneCommander Posted June 19, 2018 Author Posted June 19, 2018 (edited) So, based on the first conversation with Pallegina (when you are not nice to her , see link bellow), "men" = "of"? I wonder how I would say "Vengeance from the Flames". "Vengiatta men Fiaces"? It is probably different when it is "of the". https://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Pallegina_mes_R%C3%A8i#Pillars_of_Eternity_II:_Deadfire And does anyone know how to say "sea" in Vailian? Edit: Her order is "Frermàs mes Canc Suolias" (Brotherhood of the Five Suns) so "mes" = "of the"? "Vengiatta mes Fiaces" seems better. I'll use it for another PT, with a Fire Godlike. Btw "Fiaces" is not in the ingame dictionary, but you can find it in the wiki: https://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Vailian_language Edited June 19, 2018 by InsaneCommander
