What Style of Helmets are going to be in the game?
JerekKruger replied to Vasculio's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)The problem with boobplates from a historical perspective is that women almost never fought in battle, so even if there are historical examples they don't represent functional armour. What we do know is that the apex of functional make plate armour in Europe did not have sculpted chest and abs (if anything it resembles a beer belly) because plate armour works best when there is a gap between the plates and the wearer (usually filled with padded clothing) and when it is angled so as to deflect blows away from vital areas. From this we should expect the armour of women who actually fight (as they do in Eora) to follow similar principles and hence their armour would be similar in design to men's armour (possibly slightly larger at the chest, but certainly no sculpted breasts). Now you can make the 'this is a fantasy setting' and 'the armour's magic' arguments and that's fine, but neither of those are arguments in favour of boobplates, rather they are arguments against the necessity of not having boob plates. Ultimately it all boils down to personal preference, as Flintlock says, and my preference is for realism in this regard.

JerekKruger replied to AndreaColombo's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Yeah. Apparently there were still some viable builds using it, which was never Obsidian's intention, so they're correcting their mistake

[Suggestion] : Magic Staffs in Pillars' World
JerekKruger replied to DexGames's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Not surprising. Quarterstaff fighting was a very popular martial art in England at one point in, so there were probably a lot of them around and a lot of people who knew how to use them effectively.

JerekKruger replied to AndreaColombo's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)These weapon modals are a nice addition. Am I right in thinking they are the replacement for the old +6 Accuracy for having a Weapon Focus?

JerekKruger replied to dukeisaac's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I'd like a good damage dealing sword that's available before Act 3.

- Beta announcement ?
JerekKruger replied to dukeisaac's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Awesome!- Beta announcement ?
JerekKruger replied to dukeisaac's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I don't think there has been any explicit indication that we're expecting a beta announcement soon. That said, Josh did post this tweet about a week ago and it was also recently announced that the first play tester has completed a full play through of Deadfire fairly recently, so I could imagine an announcement could be coming soon. Fingers crossed.- Just for fun – melee/magic hybrid
JerekKruger replied to Ancelor's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)One of the class combos I'm considering is Monk/Wizard, probably Shattered Pillar/Illusionist.- Lore: why Aumaua are not dominating the world yet?
There are any number of explanations for this, but perhaps the simplest is this: strength and size is nowhere near the most important attribute to success evolutionarily speaking, and even less so when it comes to the success of civilisations (Romans were, on average, smaller than Gauls for example).- Josh Sawyer's tweets and teasers
JerekKruger replied to AndreaColombo's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)My favourite dragon fight is still my first time killing the Adra Dragon. My entire party, apart from Sagani, was wiped and I noticed that the Adra Dragon was rather slow to I kited her around for about ten minutes, taking the occasional shot, most of which were misses or grazes, until she finally succumbed (I assume to boredom).- Josh Sawyer's tweets and teasers
JerekKruger replied to AndreaColombo's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)It's a portrait by Jason Seow. Not sure if he did some of the portraits for Pillars, but the ones on his site fit perfectly with the art style of the base portraits.- Wizard subclasses
JerekKruger replied to 1varangian's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)As someone said in another thread, at the moment the Wizard subclasses seem most appealing to multiclassing characters. The restrictions aren't such a big deal when you're already picking powers from two skill trees, and the 20% bonus to your favoured school goes someway towards making up for the multiclass penalty.- Wizard subclasses
JerekKruger replied to 1varangian's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I'll wait and see how it feels in the Backer Beta, but two restricted schools does seem a lot. Of course subclasses bonuses/penalties aren't set in stone, so hopefully they'll be tweaked during and after the beta.- My Feelings on Five Party Members
JerekKruger replied to Mygaffer's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Aloth, Edér, Maia Rua, Pallegina, Serafen, Tekēhu and Xoti. That's seven full companions. On top of that there are four sidekicks, for a total of eleven NPCs who can join your party. Of course twelve person parties are ridiculous. My point was to show the flaw in kanisatha's argument in favour of six person parties by pointing out that it actually favoured even larger parties. Agreed, with the caveat that I'd say it would have to be pretty terrible to warrant the change since such a big change would involve a huge amount of rebalancing work and would likely hurt the game balance of the final product. I misspoke or, more accurately, misstyped. I should have written "Most people don't seem to actually understand the fallacies, but many claim their opponent is using them nonetheless, and treat that claim as though it's the ultimate trump card." Many might still be a bit too strong, perhaps some is the better word. My evidence is simply that I see them brought up a lot more often in online debates recently than I used to. Of course there are all sorts of flaws with that evidence, most notably that my sample is not at all representative.- Josh Sawyer's tweets and teasers
JerekKruger replied to AndreaColombo's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Oh well if you want chicks to dig you you definitely don't want to worship Skaen. I hear Hylea is quite popular with them these days, Magran too if you're into fiery ones.- Josh Sawyer's tweets and teasers
JerekKruger replied to AndreaColombo's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Sorry, the hats are mandatory. I mean, we could form a Skaenite cult to overthrow Skaen's tyranny regarding the hats, but we'd have to wear the hats for that one at least.- Josh Sawyer's tweets and teasers
JerekKruger replied to AndreaColombo's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Why stop at praying. Let's start an underground Skaenite cult and form an effigy to overthrow the tyranny that is cycling.- My Feelings on Five Party Members
JerekKruger replied to Mygaffer's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)The worst thing that happened to internet debating, in my opinion, was the propagation of the idea of logical fallacies. Most people don't seem to actually understand the fallacies, but claim their opponent is using them nonetheless, and treat that claim as though it's the ultimate trump card. - Beta announcement ?
