My criticism is that the time scale appears such that it would cause a noticeable decline in population already. It seems to be heading towards soul heat death much more quickly than our universe is heading for its own heat death. If there were an external source of souls entering the supply, like Earth had an external source of energy, that would make it more reasonable to me. Perhaps there is.

Take something like Sacred Immolation for example: I'd definitely think twice about multiclassing a Paladin if it meant I couldn't get that. Other classes have similarly very powerful high level spells/abilities, for example the Cipher has Defensive Mindweb which makes your entire party into tanks, Priests have Minor Avatar which allows them to spam their spells ridiculously fast, Fighters have Charge, a true hidden gem, and so on. We'll have to wait and see what power levels 8 and 9 bring, but I wouldn't write them off just like that.

This. It's easy to make a hard encounter, making a hard encounter that's interesting and not just bull**** is not so easy. I'd argue that stacking a bunch of high damage movement interrupting sirocco wind abilities on top of each other is on the bull**** side of things.

I looked around for any official sources but couldn't find much. If so it seems a bit silly. Either that's an absolute tonne of unused souls floating about, or Eora's heading for a population crash and/or a hollowborn crisis it can't fix by turning off Engwithan machines.

First time player path of the damned?
Yeah, what I meant by them not mattering anywhere near as much was that, for example, if you see a character build which has Might 20, and you play it with Might 16 it's not going to be all that noticeably worse and you'll be able to beat the game (even on PotD) just fine. I didn't mean that they don't matter at all, a good way to see that they do is to compare Durance to a player character Priest with high Dexterity. The player is massively faster at casting which is very handy for a Priest. That said, Durance can still get the job done.

I haven't watched the Deadfire video (and at 2 hours I probably won't) but if your comments are an accurate representation I'd say it's not great either.

Spells don't do any damage
Conjured weapon scaling has been in since beta 1, I know because I tested it pretty much straight away and posted a bug report about the fact it didn't seem to be scaling properly with power level (which is where I was told it was intended to scale with character level). EDIT: oh, if you meant it's new to Deadfire (as Boeroer suggested) then my bad

So give it to me straight about 'classic' single-class Wizards
What is the general thinking about specialist wizards by the way. I still can't see picking one for a single class wizard with the current penalties. Losing two schools and increasing the already long recoveries of the spells from two more just seems so steep for +1 PL in your specialised school and a special ability of dubious worth. For multiclass characters I can see them being used, since you can focus entirely on your main school more easily.

The strongest beta build
Cipher's power require a soul as target, why would they work on summons? Josh revealed in yesterday's stream that Wizards and Chanters powers are powered by a sort of "soul plankton" i.e. tiny bits of did broken off when people die that are everywhere. Given this, arguably Wizard and Chanter summons are souls.
