Pathfinder Kingmaker is bigger then Deadfire
Amentep replied to no1fanboy's topic in Computer and Console
Oh good, I was afraid I was going crazy (crazier?) when a whole page went by and everyone just glossed over this. That was my fault. For some reason I have trouble keeping Orwell, Orson Wells, and HG Wells separate in my head. I blame video games. ...Orson is actually Welles, if we're talking Orson of Rosebud fame, not some distant obscure cousin of Herbert. 'sfunny how fanboy No 1 compares the not-yet-released game's promo texts with a game that's already out and comes to conclusion that looks OK to him? Also, his obsession with validating his dislike for Deafire starts to look rather unhealthy. Dude, it's just a video game. It's not a big deal if you don't like it as much as some other games. No, really. Typo on my part on Welles. Correcting information on the internet is like looking into the abyss, it looked back into me. -

As an aside - George Orwell wrote ANIMAL FARM as a response to what he'd seen in the Spanish Civil War as well as tied to the propaganda the UK government was putting out about Stalinist USSR. Orson Wells was the actor/writer/director whose Mercury Theater did the WAR OF THE WORLDS Broadcast. Funnily enough Wells may be a good example of an artist in the Achillies sense; many of his proposed movies never got made because - while everyone recognized him as a genius in his fields - his films were often over budget and performed terribly at the box office for the most part. When they did get made, they were usually interfered with to be made "more commercial". -
I played the old Shining force... Man..that was good . And never heard of a 3rd !! But if it was on Saturn , then yeah . I did own a Saturn back then (and still, because it remains one of my favorite systems), but I have waited for SFIII for too long, rumors were insistant about the project of a new Shining Force on Saturn, since 1995. When Shining Wisdom came, it wasn't bad (at least not as bad as many said) but not a 'Force. And when Shining the Holy Ark released, another nice game (very good in fact), but still not a 'Force... After 2 years, the wait was a bit tiring. The only Shining Force-like released west-wide was Riglord Saga (aka Mystaria aka Blazing Heroes, depending of the area and the date of release). A pretty good one though. Rumours around were that Riglord Saga 2 was in the making too, but when Sega of America crumbled Saturn marketing in 1997, I lost hope like everyone and went to PC (that's how I discovered Fallout and so on). It was literally years after that I have learned that both Riglord Saga 2 and Shining Force III were finally released in Japan (SFIII in 3 parts along 6 months, and with a bonus disc), and even SFIII scenario 1 was released in NA and Europe! In the end, happy to have enjoyed Fallout and IE at that time and thus being mainly a PC gamer, but still a bit angry how Sega did for SFIII and the Saturn as a whole. "thanks Sega" I think SFIII isn't better recognized / popular because (a) it was on the Saturn and it wasn't as popular a system as Playstation was and (b) the full story only ever came out in the US. SFIII was pretty much DOA when Sega of America announced that they were only bothering to translate the first chapter. Most people I know modded their Saturn and bought the imports. Personally I didn't find the wait all that bad, we had a yearly Shining release more or less but for one year (1996 IIRC and it would have been longer had Working Designs not picked up Wisdom since the Sega suits in the US were vaguely anti-RPG). But I'm still annoyed that SFIII didn't come out in its full glory in the US and Europe (and that it was, alas, the last Shining Force game of its type).

Neither is better as you're both wrong, the correct answer is "John William Waterhouse". Personally I'm not against using money/units sold as a criteria for success, but then I think endeavors that bridge commercial-creative have multiple measures that you can apply. This being different from fine art where at best the success is in the eye of the patron or the gallery owner. A film can have a bad story, but still be entertaining. It can make a lot of money but be critically drubbed. It could have a great story and be as fun as watching socially aware paint drying. It can be critically lauded and have no one but the critics to go see it. Each could be seen as a success and a failure. I don't think games are all that different. -
Overlord trailer is out - bit gory.

Sounds like the intro crawl to an epic grand strategy game Or a star wars opening film crawl... -
I've just deleted a bunch of off-topic arguments about the game. This thread is about a particular build. There are other places you can go if you wish to discuss the game or the philosophies behind balancing the game.

They de-aged Adora/She-Ra so she's supposed to be a young teen instead of a 20 something for the new show as I understand it. Frankly I don't see the issue in the design (I'm not the target demo for the show either), nor what all the fuss is about Bow which seems to be another object of online hate. But its the internet, guess ya gotta outrage or something. -
Thread pruned. If you don't like a build or strategy here, please close the thread and move to another thread which may offer something more to your tastes. If you think another poster is trolling the thread, please report the post rather than trying to respond to the post. Or put another way, Ne pascere troglodytis saevis.

I must have missed where this forum became the Dungeon's and Dragon's / Baldur's Gate forum. If you wish to suggest Obsidian make a game, there is Obsidian General Forum If you wish to praise/complain/remain neutral on Beamdog's efforts, there is the Computer and Console Forum If you wish to discuss on-topic or at least vaguely adjacent topics to PoEII this is the correct forum.

It would probably help the developers to provide as much of the information as possible that they request for reporting a bug: Description: Describe the issue that is occurring. Steps to Reproduce the Issue: List the steps of how to make the issue happen. Important Files: If the files are too large to attach separately, compile them all in a .zip and make a link to Dropbox with the .zip or email us at bugs@obsidian.net Attach files that will help the dev team figure out and resolve the issue. These include: Savegames Try to include a save file from right before as well as during the issue you are reporting Windows Location: %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity II MACOS: ~/Library/Application Support/ Pillars of Eternity II Linux: $XDG_Data_Home/PillarsofEternityII Output Log When the issue occurs, close the game client, find this file, then attach it to your post Steam Location: \Steam\steamapps\common\Pillars of Eternity II\PillarsOfEternityII_Data\output_log.txt GOG Location: \GOG\Games\Pillars of Eternity II Deadfire\PillarsOfEternityII_Data\output_log.txt GOG Galaxy: \GalaxyClient\Games\Pillars of Eternity II Deadfire\PillarsOfEternityII_Data\output_log.txt OSX Location: ~/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log Crash Output This only applies if you experienced a crash. If the game crashes, in many cases it will create a folder containing crash information (including a Crash log, output log, and save file). This folder will appear inside your client next to the game launcher (PillarsOfEternityII.exe). The name of the folder will be of the following format: YYYY-MM-DD_HHMMSS Example: 2018-05-08_081722 System Specs This will give us most of your computer specs to help us diagnose the problem Windows Location: Press (windowkey + R), Type "dxdiag" and press Enter, Click "Save All Information", Attach the file that you create MAC OS Location: Click the Apple icon in the top left corner of your screen. From the drop-down menu, click About This Mac to open the System Information window. Screenshots Attach any pictures or links to pictures that can help us understand the issue

I remember one of our fearless leaders waxing nostalgic about a time when he was asked a question in a grocery store and ended up fielding questions there for some time and how it was good public relations. So not being polite and answering questions wasn't an option. Other leaders would have expected you to be polite and refer them to your office hours. And in all instances, they'd have wanted politeness.

This story, in a way, reminds me of that recent one of the lawyer who went on a rant that was recorded and now faces inquiry into by NY's disciplinary committee. Sometimes whether you like it or not you are your organizations representative in a public space (something I've had told to me directly by leadership in some jobs I've had - including one where I was told if I was asked questions about our organization outside of the office - say in the grocery aisle - I was expected to answer them to the best of my capability and customer service).

You might want to search for partial-reinforcement extinction effect or author/researcher Ashley Merryman's research for negative impacts (here's an article from her: https://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2016/10/06/should-every-young-athlete-get-a-trophy/forget-trophies-let-kids-know-its-ok-to-lose) I think Carol Dwick from Stanford has done research that is cited to be pro-participation (or more appropriately, effort) trophies. She was cited in a Huffington Post article that gets referenced a lot - https://www.huffingtonpost.com/jason-powers/science-says-participatio_b_8054046.html Note I think Dwick's actual research is along the lines of the 1998 study that TN cites - that students who were praised for challenging themselves (regardless of whether they succeeded) continued to challenge themselves while students praised for an innate quality (intelligence) were less likely to challenge themselves lest they disprove their innate quality.

Most public colleges and universities could lower the cost of tuition if the states weren't actively cutting funding (going on now for a decade at least). But funding is one of the ways state/local governments are able to control universities, and politicians love control of things. That's why they sabotaged tenure when they could ("Let us get rid of these bad teachers with tenure by ending tenure!" is really saying "Lets get rid of the teachers who don't follow my political philosophy or say things that are inconvenient because right now I can't get rid of them when they say mean things about my scorched earth policies!" since the average bad teacher would never get tenure as its not granted at a whim). And its why they try to do end runs to take control over schools and systems through legislation. For example, if the government can take their existing power to control how much money the state gives colleges and universities and combine it with the power to prevent those colleges and universities from being self-sufficient on their own through raising tuition and fee ('Because education is getting our of reach of the average American family we must not allow the colleges and universities to keep raising tuition and fees!") then they've ensured that higher education in that state (excepting pricey private schools) is under the control of the legislators and not the 'academics', unless those academics want to find their college or university without state funding and no way to generate the loss through tuition and fees.

I'm guessing the campaign slogan will be "Who do you think is the lesser of the two evils are now?" Then again, it doesn't seem like the Dems are really ramping anyone else up.

Do many game devs, musicians and directors post scientific papers in scientific journals then? -
I knew who Best was. There were a bunch of interviews with him in the lead-up to Phantom Menace coming out, so I'm not sure he was a nobody to SW fans. It has sounded (for years) that Best took criticism of Jar Jar personally, but IIRC from those interviews he created a lot of stuff for the character, and so probably had a high feeling on investment in JJ. And I have seen criticism over the years that DID target him specifically in the Jar Jar hate.
