  1. Yoda said it best: "Joined the dark side, dooku has. Lies and deceipt are his way now." Or something very similar. I feel the same is true of Kreia. She pretends to be neutral, but isn't. Sure she despises sensless bloodshed, but she also despises acts of charity. She's manipulative. She lied about the force bond, and the exile was foolish enough to believe it. That's why he thought he had to go to M5, but he didn't. He was never in any real danger. The whole hand-chop thing in the begining was obviously orchestrated, otherwise, it would have effected both anytime someone was injured. Convienient that pain wasn't transmitted during battle? A little too convienient. Also a little too convienient that there were no sith troops following you into the engine maitenence tubes? I believe the whole thing was orchestrated to ensure she could send the pain to you when her hand was cut off, helping to solidify the concern that the force bond was real, but it was all a lie.
  2. Good thought tmp. I totally forgot about unmanned ships. I still think it would be really risky to just jump into hyperspace without knowing what's out there. It would be a real waste to build a fleet of droid ships only to have them all get destroyed by flying too close to a star or something. Perhaps using low-speed to explore outward, and then when they find a new system, they would have the coordinates to make a hyperspace jump back to republic space. That would definately be the safest, and most cost effective way. Perhaps there has been attempts, just not much success in 4000 years. lol. On the other hand, exploration hasn't always been the most "profitable" line of work. Probably few "business" people that would be interested in helping to map new hyperspace routes, even with droids/unmanned ships. If you think about it, with all the wars that have been happening, the Republic wouldn't be very interested in funding the exploration. Think about it. If every probe NASA sent out and none ever returned any useful info, the US Gov would pull funding for further space exploration. The Republic would undoubtedly function the same way. Too many failures and not enough success and it would be deemed to be a waste of resources and abandoned. Another possiblity. What if the probes are successful, but find un-friendly populations, and get destroyed by planetary defense systems. At least it's a few possiblities for why there seems to be so much "unkown space". The flip side is there could be other pockets of civilization in the galaxy that are doing the same thing, trying to search the unkown regions and may find "the Republic". Which could result in a trade of "known hyperspace routes".
  3. Charting new hyperspace routes is extremely hazordous. Seems to me that anyone foolish enough to try it ain't going to live very long. "Without precise coordinates, we'd bounce too close to a supernova, or fly through a star, and that would end your trip real quick." - Han Solo Without Hyperspace, it would take a lifetime to travel from one star system to another. The only way to chart new hyperspace routes would be to put together generational ships that travel at low speeds. The people leaving would know they'd die before returning to known space, and their decendents would have to complete the missions. That would be the only practicle way to explore, or so it would seem. Apparently there's not many people in the star wars universe that want to give up their lives to such endevours as exploring "unkown regions".
  4. Basically she recants the events after the first game. Revan remembered something and left for the unknown regions, took nobody with him. Told her to stay on Korriban, but the sith have descended into petty bickering amongst themselves. Nobody is strong enough to control the Start Forge, and Korriban is falling into chaos. She's planning on leaving the planet to look for Revan, cause there's nobody left that she feels is worthy of leading the sith. Apparenlty she's pretty weak too, not willing to try to claim leadership for herself. She was still looking good though. lol.
  5. Sometimes it was and is ok. Mandalore first joins your party. #1 it's his shuttle you take to Onderon. #2 he knows the doc you need to contact and acts as a good advisor on the planet. It's not all that bad. Taking over T3 for specific solo mission. Playing Atton solo on Nar Shardaa. Playing Mira solo my first time through the game was horrible. I was pure DS on Nar Shardaa and had no clue I was going to be forced to take Hanharr instead of mira. I spent a good bit of time carefully choosing her abilities and skills to level her up and then I play her character briefly and then I'm forced to kill her. It was totally pointless to ever give me control of her. Of course when you play LS/Neutral and do get Mira, then it's not so bad playing her solo. It was just a waste in my DS playthrough. I disliked being forced to take Kreia with me to Onderon the second time. I just don't like her. And I have no clue why she revives Tobin after he's killed. He plays no useful role later on. It doesn't make sense. On the Ravenger, being forced to take Mandalore and Visas with you was over the top. Again on my first play through I had just assembled HK at this point, and was ready to take him with me for some serious kick *** fighting, but nooooo, not allowed to keep him with me. I get it that Mandalore feels his has something to prove in regards to this ship, but it's pointless. Just as the conversation between him and Visas is pointless, especially if you set Revan to DS. It makes no sense why he'd have such hostility towards her being a "sith" and yet still seemed to have soem loyalty to Revan. Doesn't make sense. I thought it was awesome to be able to choose a whole party of NPC on Dxun though. I wouldn't want to play through the whole game w/o my exile, but for one mission I thought it was pretty cool.
  6. I was about to ask this in your other thread, but this one looks more appropriate. Ok, its on your main character, the exile. Does it occur regardless of which portrait you use? Male/Female? Or is just one or two specific character portraits that this happens with. This thread is an excellent idea, though to see how many people have seen such a graphic glitch. I haven't seen anything like what you describe in the game, and I suspect most of the people that responded in your other thread have either. I did have one other thought, does your card have a fan on it or just a heatsink? I've seen the FX5200 cards come in both configurations which seems strange to me.
  7. Let's see, Uthar dead. The other girl dead. (both killed by my hand. ) If you're DS, then you send Bastilla to the acadamy to clean things up and leave for unknown space, but she gets tired of waiting around and isn't strong enough to maintain discipline at the acadamy. See the holocron in Uthar's chambers for the rest. If you were LS, basically the same situation happened, the sith turned on each other due to a power vaccum. Let's face it, as a LS, you can't let Uthar live, and the girl leaves to join the Jedi (and probably dies on Dantooine. ). Nobody left to maintain discipline. Either way the acadamy falls into chaos and Dreshdae would have been destroyed too. Probably why you land in the Valley instead of the hangar. The settlement is in worse shape than the acadamy.
  8. PCIE will replace AGP as quickly as PCI replaced the ISA slots. Ok, unfair analysis. It's not going to be a complete replacement within the next year. Don't buy a new Motherborad unless you're interested in a totally new system. With a two year old system, buying a new motherboard might require buying a new CPU and new memory to go with it. You'd need to know what socket your CPU uses and the type of memory used in your system. I'd just go with an AGP card. If you buy a Nvidia 6600 or 6800, or something mid-range to high end from ATI, then you'll be good to go for most gaming for another few years.
  9. Have you tried playing with the graphic options in the game? I'd try reducing the graphic load one step at a time and see if there's any improvement. All these options are available in the game menus, should be relatively easy to find. 1. shadows off 2. grass off 3. texture (or detail) level -- three options avail, high, med, low. Bump it down one knotch at a time to check for improvement. It's possible that the FX5200 (being a budget card) can't handle the full graphics load of the game, causing this weird aftereffect. By reducing the load on the graphics card, you should be able to figure out if it's a flaw in the game or not. For the short and easy path, just reduce all graphic options (including screen resolution) to minmum levels, rather then the one step at a time, but be warned the game won't look so hot either.
  10. Try this link. The latest drivers were released on March 11th, so this is definately strange that they're not coming up for you. http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_71.84.html This is just my personal opinion but the FX5200 isn't all that great. Although it should be far better than what I'm running the game on (Geforce4 Go notebook chip). I've not experienced any artifacts and my chip is definately inferior. Another idea: Who's the specific maker of your card? It's based on an Nvidia chip, but other people sell the cards to the end user, such as Asus, Apollo, Leadtek, PNY, etc, etc, etc, way too many to name. If you have any idea which manufacturer actually made the card, you could probably try downloading drivers from them. Most simply re-wrap Nvidia's drivers, but some make tweaks specific to their cards.
  11. A model number and make of your PC would be helpful. You can usually look up system specs on the manufacter's website. Assuming of course that it's a brand name PC. However, if you open your case, typically you'll find two - four types of slots. There's memory slots, these are easy to identify cause memory modules are smaller than PCI or AGP cards. They also are not near the edge of the board. The AGP slot is grouped with PCI slots. AGP is always closest to the CPU and offset slightly from the PCI slots. There'll be a bunch of identical sized slots below the AGP slot. These are all PCI slots. If there's any other really small slot near these others, just ignore it. It doesn't hold a graphics card. AGP and PCI aren't compatible hence the different names. Oh and one last piece of info, being two years old, your AGP slot is either 4x or 8x. I'm not sure which, but if you know how to access your BIOS, you could probably determine that in there too.
  12. As a DS character, Mira also being DS jedi, I sent Mira to lead the team on Dxun. I had no problems talking to her about it. The dialog option always pops up for Bao-Dur (or it seems that way to me) but he never wants to discuss it. It could be a influence issue or perhaps because I never use him past Telos, except to make stuff for me every now and then.
  13. Is space that limited that they can't build slightly bigger cells to contain criminals? I mean really a place to lie down at least. And what if you need to use the restroom? Hmm? Then again, I don't recall seeing a restroom in the apt on TSF, or the apt on Taris in K1. Wait a min, no restroom on the Hawk either! What is this madness? Well at least there were beds in these other "accomodations". Not that anyone made use of the beds anywhere, but it's nice to have the option at least. No worries, in a few thousand years they learn. I mean afterall, the Empire didn't hold Leia in a force cage, now did they? They had a nice detention cell with solid door and a bed.
  14. Mostly it depends on your companions original alignment. Handmaiden, Mira, Atton, Bao-Dur are all LS/Nuetral so to get influence you have to pander to their LS temperment. Take the LS hit, it's worth it to convert them into dark jedi. As for Kreia, basically you have to treat her like every word she says is golden, but sometimes you have to show distrust in her too. Most of the times I gained influence with her I also got DS points. There's other threads that do a better job of explaining influence though. Characters like Hanharr and HK, I think you get DS points to gain influence. Not all influence gains require LS/DS shift though, but it seems like alot of them do.
  15. I also have to say that both are good games and it's hard for me to really compare the two. Both have their own strengths and weaknesses. If you've already played K2 wihtout playing K1 first, then you may be dissapointed with the limited ability to upgrade your weapons and fewer feats and force powers. The overall story is less ambiguous in K1. It's easier to figure out where the characters stand, less deception. I have rather mixed feelings about the influence system in K2. It's cool that you can affect your companions LS/DS status, but at the same time, it can be quite frustrating trying to figure out what gets you influence and what loses influence. Especially with Kreia. And who can forget the romance with Bastila. Far better than any of the interactions with the female characters in K2! I loved the way her nose wrinkled up like a kinrath pup when she was mad at me! LOL. The ending of K1 is definately more satisfying than K2, regardless of whether you're LS/DS. Both games have excellent replay value, IMO, cause you can only take two characters with you at a time. in K1, different character combos could trigger a little cutscene of banter between your companions. So far I've not seen this in K2 as much. A few cutscenes on the ship, which I think are probably tied to your influence level, but I'm not sure. There's tons of stuff in K1 that I find supperior and many things in K1 that I find inferrior whe trying to compare it to K2. Either way, both games have been a lot of fun to play IMO.
