  1. Superb effort. I'm still wading through the details but what I've seen so far looks like an improvement on the current system. I hope Josh and his team aren't too proud to take a suggestion like this seriously and test it out.
  2. As long as there's an evil genius barbarian behind the scenes, pulling strings and manipulating the muscle wizard into furthering his sinister agenda.
  3. "He stands in the front line completely unfazed, dealing elemental death in wide arcs ahead. With BB Cleric's defensive buffs, he is freakin' terrifying. Clearly the best character so far." So the infamous muscle wizard is fun because... it's unbalanced?
  4. If you're playing the game on a hard difficulty you're going to be avoiding combat wherever possible, it'll be the smart move. Rather strange in a successor to BG if you ask me. Risking your party and using up resources on some monster that attacks but which is worth no xp? After a while people will get into the habit of stealthing or running away. Unless it is a quest-specific foe which drops something useful. And lol at the idea that failing a stealth roll will disincentivise this. Fight every battle or only those that your stealth roll fails on? Er, which option is incentivised? I also like the way players are trusted not to save-scum though the stealth rolls in this system (some will though) but with a killxp system we aren't trusted not to do stupid stuff like kill every quest-giver. The reality is that there are degenerate gamers with any system, the same people will just find different ways to abuse it. So changing the system away from BG for the purposes of avoiding degerate gaming is futile. And I'm not talking about the first time one plays the game, when taking on every new monster is interesting and you're just messing around trying a party out. I'm talking more about when the initial novelty has worn off, when you've settled into a playstyle and are trying to make the most of your resources. The best approach will be to avoid combat unless it is critical, which is a very different feel to the IE games. Well done everyone.
  5. A further delay is not an issue for me, as long as the game delivers. A potential franchise is riding on this and they can't afford to release a buggy mess, particularly with the likes of RPS seemingly ready to jump on any of these issues. Take your time, release a game that will be remembered and replayed for years.
  6. This list seems to use a very broad definition of a RPG and is all the better for it imo. Instead of debating whether JA2 or Dark Souls are RPGs I'll just point the reviews out to those I know who might not have played them - perhaps they'll give them a try. I'd never even heard of a couple (like ADOM) before reading this.
  7. I didn't agree with the order either, but which list would please everyone? This one looks better than most. Instead of worrying about the order have a read of the reviews - 2 or 3 different opinions for each of the 70 games as well as screenshots. Very enjoyable read imo.
  8. We are currently talking about the package design. Once we have the final details we will let everyone know. I just want to follow up on my feelings on this. I can certainly see offering a DVD case with steam code being the preferred method of production for any publisher. However, whether it was specifically stated or not, your concept art certainly implied it would be an old-school box. That is what I backed, and I want a DRM free disc with no online activation to come with it. I would have never backed at $65 if this wasn't the case. If the DVD case with steam key is what you decide on then I want to downgrade to an digital copy only, and be refunded the difference. If that request cannot be accommodated then I do have a big problem with this partnership, and I will feel pretty misled. Have to agree with this. Paradox has a bit of previous form in this regard which is why a few people in this thread have had concerns.
  9. It seems like all the possible issues have been addressed here, thanks for answering. Glad that Paradox's recent love for DRM won't affect this game after the promises made on kickstarter. Have to say though, I love the way every kickstarter campaign starts by slagging off publishers to attract the "lets change the industry" pledges and ends up with a publisher deal! Every kickstarter I've contributed to has been the same so I'm not singling out Obsidian here.
  10. Oblivion (Mass Effect 3 and Fallout 3 are dishonourable runners-up)
  11. I guess I have as much self-respect as someone with a whole 37 posts who gets VERY UPSET about a name used on an internet forum? Seriously, get some perspective on life. We're talking about games here - you know, entertaining activities?
  12. Not that I care either way, and I like it, but honesty time: did you come up with that solely to address this issue? (I like the attention to detail though) The concept of adra was developed early on as a not-quite magical material that had some interesting properties. I like being able to have "impossible" structures, but I don't like hand-waving their impossibility away. Unfortunately your secret is out, Mr Sawyer. Those friendly folks at the RPGCodex have published the inside story behind your Adra concept: http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/pillars-of-eternity-kickstarter-update-70-screenshots-stats-and-stuff.89119/page-5#post-3061980
