I watched Lockout the other day. I wasn't expecting much, therefore I was not completely dissapointed. Not a great film by any stretch, but I thought it played to its strengths well. Guy Pearce nails the campiness of his character, which made it all the more watchable. It also had Rudy from the British series Misfits. He played the psychotic role quite well.

What you did today
Last night I was a sub for my father in laws' mens league golf team. I had golfed a full 18 holes that morning, and was absolute ****. Fortunately I gave a much better showing for the evening 9. At first I felt a fair bit of pressure, but after the first two holes I realized these were just a bunch of old guys who love playing golf and getting drunk. It was a pretty nice feeling having a group of 8 compliment you on making some great shots.

I'm just glad Nash doesn't have to play against the Oilers so much anymore. He was one of those guys who always seem to get on the scoresheet against them. Some reports I've read about the Weber deal say he's getting 26 million for this season including his signing bonus. I'm also reading that Nashville brought in 25 million in ticket sales last year. From a business standpoint that doesn't really look like it's going to work out. But wait, it's the NHL. New Jerseys finances also scare me, as well.

I dont think Nash is all that and a bag of chips. He'll probably get more assists playing for the Rangers, but his production has been slipping the past few years. I don't feel that Nash is the kind of superstar who makes everyone else around him better, despite that he's paid like one. And Columbus' GM should have kept his mouth shut when Nash asked for a trade. I think going public with it hurt his cause of making the Jackets better. edit: and the Preds match the offer sheet for Weber. Let's hope he doesn't sink under 14 million dollars of pressure.

I think there isn't much appreciation for Robin anymore. Back in the 80s he was pretty cool in the Wolfram/Perez run in the Teen Titans. But most people of my generation only identified him with the 'holy sloppy galoshes Batman' era of Burt Ward. I'd pay money for a Nightwing movie, but a Robin film on its own would be a stretch. Both characters are badass in Young Justice, tho.

Savages. Let's see, Kick-Ass, John Carter, Benitio Del Toro and Salma Hayak all together in a movie directed by Oliver Stone. I really wanted this movie to be all kinds of awesome, but it was so totally not. It would be a decent rental, but I'd stay away from shelling out the big bucks at the theatres. It's okay to meh at best.

What you did today
I got up this morning for an early tee time with a couple of friends today. For where I live, it's pretty hot here right now. Came home, and played in the sprinkler on the front lawn with my youngest stepdaughter. After a surprisingly long three hour nap in the afternoon, her, my wife and I headed out to see Brave in a nice air conditioned theatre. Now I'm sitting on a deck chair in the driveway enjoying a cigarette, and pondering whether or not I should light one of those funny ones.

I don't think the problem with the Wild is their goaltending. Scoring goals was more of an issue. They were bottom five for their PP and their goals per game was pretty meager as well. It looks like their entire team had an off year offensively, except for third line center Kyle Brodziak.

Was he bad in Minnesota? He was good in San Jose, he honestly just lacks the speed needed to score 50 goals, and it hurts him defensively too. He had 24 last season and I think that is about what you can expect from him. I don't think 30+ goals is an unreasonable expectation for Heatley.

I don't really see the money being a big issue. It's one year and done. I can't see Jagr really needing the money. But he's earned every penny of it on reputation alone. As for Dallas, they'll be another bubble team for a few more years, I think. I still don't think Joe Nieuwendyk has the chops to really put together a playoff team. Their top six looks decent on paper. And old. He and Ray Whitney bring a ton of experience and could really put a few of their young players on the right path. Edmontons top pick did a kayak thing in development camp after scoring a few goals. It was kinda funny. If my team has another year in the toilet in store (again) it'll at least be entertaining to watch how this kid adjusts to playing with the big boys. I haven't seen much of him aside from clips, but his interview after the world juniors goes down as one of my favorites of the past few years. It's different seeing someone so brighteyed about everything to do with hockey. Full of piss and vineygar, that one is.
