  1. Yeah yeah! lol Finally made it to Primm. Good times! I have a way to go before I get to that part of the game. Will I let the lottery winner live this time? bwahahaha
  2. I'm an idiot drunkard. ...But I wanted to respond to this one because I'd spent so much time on it before the dlc that I'm in the same boat, Red. When I started this latest game, I ended up with tons of stuff popping up in my inventory and then I walked outside and I got another slew of messages about all the new areas, level caps, and the like. It's total comedy. I ended up selling most of the stuff for the caps, but I have to say that I'm looking forward to the new content in the game, but the way the merchants are right now destroys the feeling of having to horde and conserve resources in the early game. Fun time, though!
  3. I'm an idiot. There are so many threads dedicated to New Vegas, there's no reason fo rme to start a new one. Please for forgive me for starting a new one. I am enjoying it, however, thank you. Mods feel free to close to delete this topic as extraneous.
  4. EDIT: sorry, I didnt' really add anyting the other folks hand't already added. to the topic.
  5. Okay okay, I'm not trying to be insulting, but the gold/weight thing is just stupid. Yeah... realism? lol Like these games are ever realistic. The first argumengt, and the the best argument is the best. It's not worth it. Gold weight should only be included if it adds something more substantial than moving back and forth more often to deal with the mechanic. It won't be. It will almost certainly be nothing more than just busy work for the PC. If it doesn't add something tactically or strategically to gameplay, it's just auto-eroticism for the 'hardcore' (haha) players. EDIT: I would be sorry if I offended the hardcore players (lol), but I'm a little beyond caring. Tomorrow I'll probably give a crap. I guess.
  6. I've stopped using the title, but I still think this is an excellent idea for the project. You guys did a great job. I'll still add eight buck to my final pledge, and that's entirely because of you guys. great job. ...But I still want my basic ol' title. Obsidz should be grateful for your efforts, to be sure.
  7. Happy birthday you glorious wretch! Now get back to work, damn you! :Cant's **** eating grin icon:
  8. Geez, Hurlie, I haven't read this thread for weeks and I notice your wife had pancreatitis. It's one of the most painful conditions someone can have. I know a thing or two about pain, and I have to tell you it is excruciating. It's often associated with alcoholism, and the doctors often immediately assume you over-indulge. There are many many cases where the person has on discernable underlying reason. It's sometimes associated with gall bladder issues or sea food alergies or even allergies in general. I'll pray for the wife. The irony is, I have a lot of experience regarding pancreatitis, which is an immediately diagnosable condition (ie can't be faked), and the only reason I saw it is that I wanted to come here for the first time in weeks to wax poetic on a new drink I've discovered. I went to a jazz club in Hollywood a few days ago and had my first dirty martini. I've had many martinis over the years, but that was my first so-called dirty martini (where the olive brine is mixed with the gin or vodka in the martini). It was so awesome I've become addicted to them. Even though I've been cleaning up things in my life lately, I still drink a wee bit much more than I should. Anyhow, I was going to write a post about perfecting the ultimate 'dirty martini,' but instead I want to reassure you, if there isn't some terrible underlying reason for your wife, there's a good chance they'll isolate the trigger and she'll be okay. Take her seriously when she says it hurts. It's twelve shades of ugly. ...And, on that note, time to head out and forget I've posted here. lol
  9. musketry was still devastating in what was a later period. The rate of fire was important and accuracy, while not what we expect today, was increased by practice. Soldiers who practiced with live rounds regularly, which was a huge expense to the army in question, did better than soldiers who did not.
  10. I think Dak'kon is probably the NPC who's had the most impact on me personally of anyone in a game. I agree that the PC gained influence with him based on interaction rather than actions with a third party. He didn't see you make a decision in dialogue with a third party of act upon a third party in order to gain or lose influence. For that reason, just as you say, a goodie-two shoes could, with a little investment, have huge influence with Dak'kon without making it so that an evil ****er couldn't. However, Dak'kon gave tons of what I would call 'ego-stroking' in that he would become increasingly tied to your fate and, if you so chose, you could make him possibly your most loyal follower, something not just implied but explicitly stated during dialogue.
  11. I know someone mentioned this on the kickstarter page, but I was wondering how we could suggest add-ons for purchase. For example, I think it would be cool if you provided an add-on for physical shipment tiers and offer a t-shirt add-on. I can't remember the guy who first proposed this, but I think it's a splendid idea. I don't know what the price would be to break a profit worth the effort, but my reasoning is that I know some folks who like fantasy, maybe even like some gaming, but who aren't really interested in CRPGs. If you offered a shirt as an add-on, I could justify purchasing some as gifts. I'm literally trying to figure out ways to pump more money in, but I don't really need to have my name in gold or whatnot. I'm also not rich, so I don't want to keep throwing money I can't rationally justify spending. However, since I know I'll be spending money on gifts for various birthdays not to mention Christmas, I can up my pledge for things that I think other people will enjoy. Since I've already pledge to get digital tiers for friends who will enjoy having the game, there's really no other place to go. However, a well designed t-shirt will be a good gift for a wider variety of people. Moreover, since I'd buy at least one for a friend away at Cal, it would yield a little advertising for you. I don't know if this would work as an add-on idea, and you can move this post if this isn't the appropriate thread, but I think it would be cool.
  12. One last thought before I go to bed. It looks like the latest update showing on the PE page is Update 9. You need to post this in 'latest news.' I might be missing it at the moment, but that's how it looks now at least.
  13. I agree with this, but then that *is* the payoff. I think having some nod to your character is good, but sometimes the payoff is to say 'you're so awesome' and sometimes the payoff is to say "you only *think* you're so awesome.' ...BUt the point is that neither one require balancing for more xp or beteer loot. The payoff is simply a nod to the character you provide for your PC.
  14. I think the banks idea is falid as long as the impact on gameplay is more than just simply requiring more movement back and forth. I think that's redwuld's idea, and I agree!
  15. I'm sorry if I'm a little erratic. I'm a little diminished right now, but I would say that ego stroking isn't so bad. It might not be the best term for us as end users, but it's realistic from the perspective of the design team. It's a payoff. Even if the player is *not* the center of *everything,* it makes sense that loyal companions make him feel that way. Also, emotional rewards sometimes provide more incentive than hard core in game rewards. If I'm playing the die hard goodie two shooes or the die hard bad assed character, then the npcs reinforcing my decisions can sometimes be more fulfilling to me as a character than the in-game loot and xp rewards.
  16. I'd like one of the devs to weigh in on this. Again, that is, since Sawyer answered the basic question way the hell back in the thread. ...But, specifically, I believe a non-combat mode, as opposed to tweaking difficulty, will take a lot of effort to implement and test. I can think of all sorts of issues that could arise from a non-combat mode and it seems to me that it would be a significant amount of resources. That's probably also true about some of the modes they've announced, but I still contend that there's significantly more people interested in the bragging rights combat mode than non-combat. The proof of that is that, while maybe the devs want it in there for their own fun, they didn't make the decision just for ****s and grins. They decided to put in special increased difficulty modes. They shot down the idea of non-combat. Asking them to take what I'm positive amounts to significant time in order to allow a small population of folks to have a very specific game doesn't make sense. At this point, Obsidz must believe the population who wants not just easy but literally no combat is small otherwise they'd have said something other than a very firm "no" when the subject first reared its ugly head. I don't really care if they included a non-combat mode in the game, but I can't get over the idea of putting in a way for folks to skip game elements that were always explicitly stated as one of the main things behind the project in the first place when doing so would come at the expense of virtually anything. I'd rather see the guy who wanted more attention to transgender issues get his way since at least someone's getting more. Paying for a game where the devs took the time and effort to put in a non-combat is like shelling out the cash so your friend can spend time with a hooker only to have him talk to her for three hours and leave.
  17. Yeah, but Feargus already said they'd decided not to give weight to gold. ...Or I guess that was Sawyer. Someone said it. Frankly, I'm against weighted money, even though logically money would have weight. It's a tough one where I just think you have to bow to convenience in a CRPG instead of absolute realism.
  18. The one thing I will say, again, is that objectives shouldn't reward xp based on difficulty or cleverness or how good or evil the method. Objective xp should be based entirely on how beneficial the outcome is for the PC. In some cases, there might not be any difference to how you overcome the obstacles, but in some cases there might be wildly different results depending on the method. Of course, that requires discretion on the part of the designers, but that would be true nevertheless.
  19. I agree with this statement. In fact, I think folks should argue for things they want and against things they don't. However, I will point out that I normally don't argue against stuff very strenuously. Keep in mind, my reading of the original idea is that he wanted a non-combat story mode. He didn't want an easy combat mode. Inasmuchas he's happy with modes that make combat extremely easy, I'm all for that. I honestly believe that implementing a non-combat mode will be hard on development. Once again, we're forced to conjecture, but it's an educated guess. I would be happy to have a dev weigh in on this particular issue and I would try to accept his answer graciously. Since the question was asked and answered, I doubt that will happen, but you never know. No matter what else, I'm not trying to poke fun at either you or machineiv personally. I think it's perfectly legit to ask for what you want which is still pretty much all I'm doing also. Tell you what, though, if they come out and say they're going to include a non-combat mode, I slap you on the back and offer you a glass of the house red. Virtual, of course. :Cant's wry grin icon:
  20. The problem with not translating these particular place names is that there is a specific word for those places in English. Translating those names provides greater clarity, not less. I think folks would not understand that Schwarzwald was a geographical area known in English as the Black Forest. These aren't made up fantasy names. Look, I took Attic Greek in school and 'Greek' itself comes from the Romans. We use the word we have in English, and there *is* a word. I understand not wanting names translated in all sorts of off the cuff crazy ways, but where definite names exist in a language, I think we should use those names in the translation. ...But I'm not a linguist, so I don't have a real stake, but that's how I see it.
  21. Okay, Tilly, I promise I will never kill you just for the combat xp. Fair enough? :Cant's huge grin icon:
  22. I have to admit I chuckled out loud when I read this. I'm not making fun of you, but you're making an excellent point for objective only xp. I think it's interesting that a lot of folks immediately thought that Cain's update (Update seven I think) put combat xp off the table and Feargus asserted that it will. I will be charitable and assume that there's so much for Sawyer to do that he either doesn't know the issue is under debate or doesn't have time to weigh in on it. There's no truly logical reason for incidental xp (I read your arguments and I simply don't think any of them make sense in the long run), but they want to kill stuff and get xp and it's too much of a golden cow to pry it out of the hands of die-hard fans.
  23. I actually think your ideas are pretty good, Shard, because they're not just kind of tossed in on top but revolve around one of the major aspect of the backstory itself. That's a great way to explore a mature issue without losing focus on the story or the gameplay.
  24. Yeah, but Sawyer wasn't disdainful in his response. He merely made a point that combat would be one of the three legs of the stool. It is clear, from previous updates, that some combat is avoidable and that there will be a variety of methods to get past some things, but combat is going to be a major part of the game. I don't mean to be dismissive, but I can tell you what worries me about making a non-combat mode. For it to work properly, it has to be implemented extremely well and then tested thoroughly. If they just throw in the mode pell mell, they will get hammered by any professional journalist, and they should be hammered in such a case. This is a kickstarter, but it's not an amateur development project. Obsidian is a professional studio and they really have to be careful that this project is polished every bit as much as if it were underwritten by a publisher. Probably more. Since I don't want what I can only believe are substantial resources spent *taking out* a feature that I firmly believe the vast majority of player (including me) want included. While I can't prove that assumption off-hand, does anyone really dispute that the majority of players will buy this title expecting combat at some point or another? The *vast* majority? So, I don't want you to be forced to do stuff you don't like, but I don't want to see the team bend over backwards in order to allow you to avoid a feature I want instead of taking the time to include some feature or another I would also like.
