  1. I don't see how Obs has much choice about whether they get contracted out on FO, but I hope they do anyhow. I like Bethsoft games by and large. They're not my faves, but I tend to enjoy them. I think, if I had to make a list, New Vegas would be my second. I mean, when you get into the top five it starts to get jumbled a bit and my feelings jump around a bit, but New Vegas was a masterpiece. I love the game. I personally think that it vindicates Sawyer's philosophy which I find ironic because so much of the engine design is clearly against his core philosophy. On the other hand, a lot of folks think of Ring of Fire as the quintessential Johnny Cash song and he did the cover for it. Things sometimes work out that way. I've enjoyed Pillars quite a bit. I don't regret a single cent I spent on the Pillars kickstarter. ...But New Vegas is the reason I dropped that coin and the prospect of something akin to it, Fallout or not, is the only currently foreseeable way I'm going to drop that kind of coin in the near future for a project.
  2. hahaha GIFTCON. We've typically gone fairly light over the past few years on gifts for each other, but I try to find something clever or meaningful. I'm starting to get a little bit worried, but not much so far. This is where young folks just don't understand what it used to be like when you had to hoof it on out of the house to buy gifts and couldn't rely on expedited shipping to get it to you before the holliday. RIght now I'm with Shady. GIFTCON 3.
  3. /irish cop voice: No one's gettin' whacked today! Seriously, I think it's interesting to read these different views, although I admit I'm not a fan of phone games. The first tablet game I will have played will be the Pathfinder game I linked above. ...But they are certainly popular. Meanwhile, as long as you only *singe* each other and don't actually *burn* anybody, I'm just going to stay out of the way. lol
  4. I skimmed through but I didn't notice if someone had mentioned, but Warhammer is, more than even DnD and some of the other games butchered into real time, a turn based game. The total war franchise is rts, right? Are there any new Turn Based FB or 40k games coming out. heh I still have the basic boxed sets of both in my closet gathering dust with about 15k cards of various games and boxed computer games I own on steam and never opened. :Cant's eyeing his unopened box of Pillars of Eternity icon:
  5. Yeah, that's thread evolution for ya! hehe ...But I think Obsidz likes making the type of games they make and there's probably not as much risk in simply sticking with what they know. On the other hand, they are making the upcoming Pathfinder Card game for the tablet and I'm really looking forward to it. In fact, while I've been toying with purchasing a tablet for a long time, I'm finally going to purchase one for, of all things, a game. lol They really should be advertising their Pathfinder card game more: http://forums.obsidian.net/forum/98-pathfinder-adventure-card-game/
  6. Hey, everyday is Norse day in English speaking countries. Ya know? Thor's day? Wodin's day?
  7. Hey, I'm just glad you enjoyed the holiday. I actually did. Went to the outlaws for Thanksgiving dinner and no big bruhaha, drama, or unhappiness. No smoothing ruffled feathers, soothing hurt feelings, or any other nonsense. Just got together, ate, visited, and then went home. This morning, I went to mass and then visited with sick ol' folks. Man, some of these guys don't get enough visits from family! Now, I'm home and eating leftover Thanksgiving feast for lunch. Life. is. Good!
  8. Yeah, I really hate how 'last boss' battles become more and more contrived, especially since a lot of games try to be clever and the last boss is actually after a line of fake last bosses. Ugh. Unless the combat is truly superb in a game, that gimmick starts to get old for me. A game that lets me deal with the final encounter in a non-combat manner if I so choose gets a bump in my estimation. EDIT: ...And, *exactly* on point about not being able to 'deal' with the threat other than trying to survive it!
  9. Good to know we gather such a diverse crowd. It actually looks like the truck simulator has a boat load of mods out for it. At least the site in your link had a bunch, but 'no dice' for your problem, eh? I tried a quick search here, but I didn't see hide nor hair of new skins. I wish I had time, but I've got to hit the road in another five minutes or so. Good luck with the search for skins. Perhaps one of our erudite members will be able to help. In the meantime, welcome to the forum and enjoy your stay!
  10. I actually suspect you're a bot, AntwanPar, mostly because I checked your link when I approved your post. It *is* a commercial link and that's a no no. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and figure maybe I'm reading too much into your post and just edit out the commercial link. Assuming that you're just a regular ol' poster, then I welcome you to the board and also mention that I think it's interesting to see Farmville 2 on your list. I think that's a facebook game? I don't do facebook games any more, but I used to play farmville way back when. I hope to see you around posting and discussing games with people. Welcome to the board and please watch the links to commercial enterprises. :Cant's equable smile icon:
  11. I'm with Gorgon. I just can't take what vampires have come to be in modern entertainment. On the other hand, if they could create a game with the sort of mysterious and creepy elements I love, would be all over it. Even better than a vampire game, though, would be a really well done Call of Cthulu game where the PC doesn't chop up monsters pell mell with a magic sword, but prays like hell that his pistol might actually work against the bad guys, does a lot of running, tries his best to keep hold of his sanity. All while investigating the mysterious workings of the mythos.
  12. If I'm around these parts on the holiday, I always start a Thanksgiving thread. Same with Christmas and Easter and whatnot. Usually these turn into short, between one and two page threads that consist largely of folks complaining about the holiday and the thread. However, I'm the eternal optimist, so I can only hope that folks will take this thread in the way I mean it, which is positive. It's good to give thanks. ...Or, if that has too many connotations of Faith and prayer, then I'll emend the prior statement in your case to say it's good to recognize our fortunes. We shouldn't forget the past and the bad things that happened there, but we live right here and now, and it is what I have here and now for which I give thanks. For me, I'm thankful to have returned over the past two years to better health. I'm thankful that I managed to dig my way out of the massive pit I'd dug for myself. I'm glad to have purpose and to be working my way toward goals in life. I'm happy to have the fortune to live where I live and enjoy the lifestyle I do. I'm thankful for technology that was literally science fiction when I was child that I now carry on my belt every time I leave the house. I'm thankful that I have friends and a good wife and a happy home and two fell beasts (which others call cats) to share my life. I'm even thankful for our own little corner of interwebs heaven, which we call the Obsidian forum. I have a habit of coming and going around this joint, but if I'm here I'll 'offend' every one by wishing them a Happy Christmas also. ...Or, just to make it more secular, I'll call it Xmas. (inside joke there)
  13. This is fascinating. On my current run, I was using a lot of CC, as I think most folks do, especially when they see how effective it is. Now, I've been staggering CC to get off just as the foe is getting close to finishing a spell. If I mix and match with high interrupt melee attacks, I can skate through just about every fight, which is particularly useful for the first forays against ogre druids in the endless paths. I lack the skill or game theory knowledge to contribute to the thread, but that doesn't mean I can't voice a little appreciation for it.
  14. lol I've actually thought about that film whenever I read this thread, which I think is pretty funny altogether. Through monumental force of will, I've refrained from urging folks to bury the hatchet. I managed to snag a unique hatchet in the game recently and I've put it on Eder. I dunno, there were some good things about that flail that I liked also, but deflection is da bomb, so maybe I'll stick with it that way. I've actually been using, of all people, Kana as an off-tank. Hey, put a shield and decent armor on 'im and he ain't so bad. Plus, some of his wave spells come in handy on the front lines.
  15. I gulaged a bunch of posts. Normally, I would take the time to clear out all the personal stuff from the posts, but I don't have time and I don't think there were any probing analyses that aren't covered in other posts otherwise. Please give over vendettas. Fenixp gives good advice above.
  16. Okay, I bit. I say full playthrough, but the reality is, when I *first* get the game, I want to try different builds and I'll restart a lot. ...But I'll usually spend more time doing full play. Disclaimer: If I like a game, I'll play through at least twice and maybe several times.
  17. Aw, you're such a tease, ya rat bastard! ...But a hundred hours in I would say you must be enjoying it, unless it really is just research.
  18. hahaha It turns out my GoG account is also under Cantousent. So, I just purchased collections 1, 2, and 3. I would say I'd grief you if it disappoints, but I plan on having fun and, anyhow, I'm stingy. My decisions are my decisions and only *I* get credit or blame for them. :Cant's tongue in cheek grin icon: EDIT: and it occurs to me that I'm being bad about going off topic. Clearly, I'm happy that PoE has been selling well. I'm pretty much a shoe in for joining the kickstarter for the next campaign, although perhaps not for the same tier. I don't mind folks voicing their opinions, but sometimes the folks coming online just to be cheerleaders against the game if not outright haters can be a drag. Still, even if I disagree with much of their pool of suggestions, I suppose that there is some good in at least considering different ideas.
  19. I'm trying to remember, but I don't think I ever finished eye of the beholder. I should look to see if it's on GoG. That was a great game and I had to be extremely close to the end when I stopped playing for whatever reason.
  20. The wife and I just finished Rhiannon: Curse of the Four Branches. It had a couple of dreadful design errors, such as the fact that you could run across a ton of things but not pick them up. So, you had to remember where they were and, upon stumbling into the right trigger which was not always intuitive in any way, you could go pick them up. It's a nifty idea, but it's a pain in the arse. Still, it has the great ghost story thing the wife luuuurves and was set in Wales, whose culture, history, and setting I have always admired tremendously. So it wasn't a complete bust. one way or the other, we enjoyed a game that was literally in the under $10 bargain basement bin when we picked it up some years ago. From watching that Obsidian twitchtv thing, I've considered buying SOMA for us to play together. She doesn't like twitch, but she does like mysteries and ghost stories. Also, as an interesting aside, they thanked this company called Obsidiandream in the credits. I thought that was funny. Not related to Obsidian entertainment, but still funny to see it.
  21. The big news there isn't that it's coming out early next year, but that we might be getting it on different platforms besides tablets. I'm still planning on getting a tablet and this game on it, but if I really like it I'll pick it up on steam for the PC assuming they make it available. "None yet, but I can confidently say we have the long game in mind and don't plan to stop at tablets." Nathan Davis Edit: Teaches me to cut and paste in simple mode. Edited for ease of reading and to attribute the quote.
  22. Having recently started a new run, I can say that I love engagement and actually wish they'd done *more* with it rather than less. That said, I'm for folks venting frustration about the game and all the little qualities that they personally dislike. A big example is the lack of kill XP. I much prefer getting XP from quests, but I know a lot of people who rail against it... or least used to rail against it. Our Gftd friend hasn't been as vocal lately, but I'm not sure he's played since beta. There's one specific problem I have with the game, and that's story based. I've made short comments about it and had folks make reasonable and yet ultimately unfulfilling responses, but I just don't have the energy to undertake what would be a lengthy explanation that maybe two or three people would read. Anyhow, that's a small thing and my problem with how they did it is considerably less of a problem than my problem would be if they had done nothing. So, I chalk it up to you can't win 'em all. Overall, I'm quite happy with the combat and the game altogether. Inventory is a little clunky and battles can often be a bit clustered, but I've learned that games must be judged as their sum of their parts rather than piecemeal.
  23. I've looked at Underrail. It's one of those things that I consider for a long time and may or may not end up buying. I just finished Raederick's hold, and Raederick himself. When I finished my first run, he'd turned into some sort of monster, so I'm hoping to figure out what happened and not have the same bad thing happen again. This game rocks. Seriously, I'm lovin' it, and a lot of the reason is as fenixp said.
  24. I despised Jaheira whereas I merely found her half elf husband contemptible. Sad way for the bastard to go, though. The one with Durance and Hiravias is total comedy, though. Yeah, Durance, give the 'whore' mongering a rest, whydontcha?
  25. I actually prefer turn based combat myself, but I disagree with our Zennish friend in that I thought Wizardry 8 was too much of a slog. Too much combat around every corner. I want a game world that reacts to my actions, but goes into turn based mode for combat. Sure, make it dynamic in that maybe some other critter or faction moves in to take advantage of the vacuum left by the exile or slaughter of the current power brokers, but don't have 'respawns' per se. ...And, as I've said, I'm a Catholic. I certainly have no doubt that the gods did *not* exist.
