Why is Kirottu the only one to have a custom title? I want one too... Black Hound or something like that...
-
Did he have a primary sword in the howard books like the movies? (Been so long that I read one I cant recall) Or did he not have any attachment to a specific weapon and just used whatever happened to be around at the time? I had the impression he was using a two-handed sword in the movies... ah, it's a shame there isn't a feat that grants a bonus for using an extra hand when fighting with single-handed weapons...

Mmmmm.... interesting... anyone joining that? -
I just remembered that Rogues and Bards get the use magic device skill... Do you believe that can make the difference in a high level campaign? They can potentially use any 8th or 9th level spell scroll... Time Stop, Finger of Death anyone? I don't know though how much that skill may raise their chances of survival...
-
That would be the best way to go IMHO... Make sure your character has a high dexterity in order to match up with Conan's agility...

It's just theorycrafting... Indeed, a rogue may experience the same problems as a bard... however, rogues get some special abilities starting from level 10 which allow them to reduce or negate the effects of magical attacks... They can also hide and sneak attack when they face fighters... In a sense, they are more viable than bards... The problem is that Bards are too much average... they should really get some nice song abilities to balance things... that is why I am thinking of improving those...

The point of that thread is to see how we can improve the bard class. One of my suggestions is to give him bonus feats every 5 levels. I also think it would be interesting to use the Monte Cook's spellsong casting system (while it doesn't seem very innovative, it does have the merit of making the bard something unique, instead of a simple rogue/sorcerer). Another interesting thing is how we can trink with the bardic song. Obsidian went in the right directions in the way it implemented that feature. I have a couple of ideas about that but I will post them some other time. For the time being, my main problem is that I don't know how viable a bard is. No matter if he faces alone or not one powerful enemy, I still have doubts that a bard can survive such a battle. A warrior will cut him in pieces, a wizard will dispel his magical defenses and then cast finger of death or something like that... You cannot deny that bards are ill-equipped for high-level combat... Should they be dropped altogether, or should they be improved?

I understand your logic but you are missing my point. My goal isn't to metagame and create the baddest PC, its to emulate as best that can be done via the D&D rules the Conan char and that does mean multi-classing, on some level. No, I got your point. I just don't think Conan should have any rogue levels at all... It isn't because he can sneak or whatever that he also is a rogue. Conan is a full-fledged warrior. His only truth is the sword. Btw, that is the advantage of 3ed: any class can spend points in hide, move silently or open locks. They can pretend to be rogues, but will never be as good as a pure one... That applies to Conan as well...

Barbarians get the rogue's trap sense and uncanny dodge abilities. Why would you want to multiclass your character? Make a pure barbarian instead. This class has some nice epic feats that enhance the barbarian rage.

Monte Cook's alternate bard class in Book of Eldritch Might II seems the best way to go... However, I haven't bought the book yet to get all the details... I like however the idea of having a completely different spellcasting system (spellsongs). http://www.montecook.com/mpress_BOEM2.html

Thanks for you opinion, Tigranes. I guess I will go buy them then...

I have been thinking a lot about the usefulness of the bard class in d&d. As everyone knows, they are jack-of-all-trades but master of none. They have a good skill selection, a few exclusive abilities and can cast up to lv6 spells. It's nice playing a bard in low level campaigns or when being in a group. My problem is what happens when one decides to solo a bard or to play a high level campaign (approximately level 15-20). I tend to think that bards are a very good class for solo players (along with rangers and druids) since they can do almost anything and offer a big choice of roleplaying opportunities (due to their many skills). In low level campaigns, they should normally be fine and shouldn't have many problems in combat. However, I am wondering how would a bard fare against a high level wizard, fighter or even a dragon. Wizards have very powerful spells and warrior classes have a devastating BAB. Bards have none of these... just some average spells and fighting abilities... Is it even possible for a bard to beat such foes? PS: In order to make them more efficient, I have given to the bard class a bonus metamagic or song feat every 5 levels, starting from level 5. What do you think of that change?

That thread won't last long, pal... There's already a similar one, sorry...

Damn, there is a similar thread on the codex boards which had a link to a website that had files that belonged to the guy who committed the massacre. For some reason, those files aren't available anymore... I have made a consolidated document of that guy's manifesto (see attached file). Tells you a lot about his psychological state... damn bastard should have been beaten to death... relevant links: http://www.rpgcodex.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=21201 http://koti.phnet.fi/pres/a/jokela/ Manifesto.doc

It's better having classes instead of levels... I miss the times when one could choose his title (old BIS boards if I remember well)...

Christmas isn't very far, and it is time for us (for me at least) to start looking for presents for my gf. She has an interest in light fantasy novels such as Harry Potter and Chronicles of Narnia. I have been trying to find something new for her and I discovered the His Dark Materials series from Philip Pullman. These books look quite interesting. Has anyone read them? Any impressions to share? Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/His_Dark_Materials Apparently, there's a movie adaptation of the first volume due out in december 2007...

Take a look at the second link I posted. It IS possible to upgrade my laptop's RAM. However, I don't know if doing so will damage my computer in one way or another (I am particularly worried about overheating issues).

I have 1 Gb RAM at the moment. I want to upgrade it to 2Gb. My current graphic card is a Geforce 7400. I don't intend upgrading it since that would cost a lot of money.

I just got a new vaio laptop FE41E series. It is very fast and runs games very smoothly. I have yet to try games with high specifications like Oblivion, NWN2 and the Witcher. I am not sure if I will be able to play those games, and that is why I was wondering whether I should add 1 extra Gb of RAM or not. Should I do this or do I run the risk of messing up my new pc? risk of overheating maybe? Keep in mind that I am no computer expert... relevant links: http://www.ciao.co.uk/Sony_VAIO_FE41E_Core..._4_TFT__6631340 http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/Sony_VAIO_L...y-27538-m-1.htm

People on the Codex say the game is full of bugs. I really hope this will be fixed in the near future... Here's a nice video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7q7ZWStb0w and a comic strip:
