  1. Do you mean arcana evolved or arcana unearthed? Btw, I wanted to add that in order to become an arcane trickster, you need to have both rogue levels and levels in some kind of arcane spellcasting class (Bard, Wizard or Sorcerer). The difference in my house rules is that I allow my players to gain some of the trickster's unique abilities while allowing them to keep their focus on only 2 classes instead of 3. Going beyond 3 levels of the arcane trickster prestige class is useless because all his abilities are kinda repetitive. The other levels don't bring anything new. Why would a player jeopardize his career as either a rogue or as a spellcaster just to get the same abilities over and over? Spellcasters gain some neat spells as they grow in power and rogues have access to some cool special abilities beyond level 10...
  2. Sorry, I tried to be as brief as possible but at the expense of the coherence of my thought... What I tried to say, in the case of the Arcane Trickster, is that I would rather be able to pick any of his 2 main abilities (impromptu sneak attack and ranged legerdemain) as selectable feats for arcane spellcasters or as rogue special abilities. The arcane trickster prestige class is nothing really exceptional: it has sneak attack just like any rogue and has bonus spells just like any spellcasting class. What makes that PrC special are the 2 aforementioned abilities. Sure, to balance things, the prerequisites to these feats should at least require the character to be able to cast spells and have some thieving skills. No matter what, I will never like the concept of prestige classes. There is absolutely no way for the player to get the arcane trickster's special abilities without disrupting the natural progression of his/her character as a rogue or as a wizard/sorcerer/bard. Why would I want to progress as an arcane trickster beyond lv 3 of that Prc if I am only interested in getting a "sample" of his unique abilities? I don't want to force my players into sacrificing so many feats and skill points just to get these 2 abilities.
  3. Prestige classes indeed do not need to be less effective than base classes, but rather should overall be equally effective as base classes, but in a different way (e.g. through specialization, or through combination of features of other classes, or...). At the moment (in unmodified 3.5E), that is not the case as many prestige classes are clearly superior to the base classes, which makes further advancement in the relevant base classes pointless after the criteria of the prestige class are met. okay...as example: please tell me why a prestige class called 'Archmage' should not be superior to the 'Wizard' ? EDIT: the whole idea behind prestige classes is that you advance into something new, you are still what you archieved in your base class(es), but advancing further makes you only stronger than some base class anyway Why would a simple soldier wish to become a commando if being soldier would be the same effective as being trained as a commando?e It would make no sense It's true that prestige classes can be interpreted as some kind of further specialization to a given career. However, I particularly don't like how prestige classes interrupt the natural progression of a given core class (spellcasting progression is slowed down, some important abilities are given up). I took a look at the SRD prestige classes and there are more or less pretty useless since their abilities are already available to some core classes. The arcane trickster's special abilities could become selectable feats for rogues (the ones that are available upn reaching lv 10) provided that the specific prerequisites are met. An assassin is like a rogue except for a few features (I have removed the assassin's spellcasting ability in my house rules btw). I admit that implementing the archmage prestige class is very tricky on the other hand (I may keep it as it is). I would rather see prestige classes be implemented in a similar fashion to 4th edition paragons, or be implemented as kits that are chosen at lv1. That way, a wizard continues his spell progression up to the 9th spell level but gives up his bonus feats in order to gain something else instead. A fighter gives up his bonus feats but gains some special abilities instead. and so on...
  4. 1) I agree that rules are more important than art. I was just stating that I liked but since it wasn't relevant to the discussion, I put it in parenthesis. 2) They are overpowered compared to the core classes of the Phb. Sure, the latter lack flavor and there are ways to give them new abilities without making them overpowered. As I have already said, I am using the concept of kits in order to replace some core class abilities by prestige class abilities (ie: an assassin loses trap sense but gets poison resistance instead). I believe that I achieve some level of flexibility by doing this (but that's just me). Btw, I never make use of the newest core classes like the ones you mentioned. Even if I allow my players to play a scout or a samurai, they use my homebrew equivalents which are less munchkin than the ones released by WotC lately.

  6. Dnd 4E is made for MMORPG gaming. Period. Look at DDI, it's like WOW but worse in every aspect

  8. Due to some distributor's mistake, 4E books have been shipped 10 before the launch date! WotC is mad with this but who cares? The following link explains everything: http://www.rpgcodex.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=24420 I didn't expect anything good in the first place, but 4E really seems to be dumbed down version of 3E with anime/marvel-DC comics special abilities... sucks... I wil stick to 3.5 E
  9. Meh. I am really less excited by this project (I like the art though). The classes and races are way overpowered even if it now takes longer to level up and even if monsters in the Pathfinder RPG are supposed to be up to the challenge. Taking away one or two levels from the players won't solve the balance issues when playing a 3E or 3.5E WotC adventure module. They DO have some very good ideas. They need however some balancing. For example, they should make characters gain less bonuses through each ability (I am thinking about the Fighter's weapon and armor training special abilities that are clearly "too much" considering a fighter's high BAB and Hitdie). Personnally, I prefer the use of kits like in the 2nd edition. Take out some core class abilities and replace them with prestige class abilities, and voil
  10. I just downloaded the mod that allows you to get Handmaiden as a female exile. Seems interesting... I have two questions though: 1) I just got on Telos with my female PC (and without having the mod installed) and I saw a cutscene where Handmaiden was watching me arrive. Is that normal? Do you get to interact with her even if you play a female Exile? 2) How do you get the light side and dark side endings? Does the story branch near the end of the game like in Kotor 1 and Jade Empire? Or do I need to be goody-goody or evil during my whole playthrough?
  11. Oh well, I guess you have just convinced me to play the game twice...
  12. Just for your information, I played a scout/jedi consular (5/15) in Kotor 1. She was dual-weilding and that combination worked very well. The truth is that I do prefer to play female characters since NWN1 as the female models are more beautiful than the male models. This applies to NWN1, Kotor1 and jade empire. It will probably also apply to NWN2. I am just wondering if the dialogs are more interesting if you play a male in Kotor 2. I wish someone made a mod that made your female char be treated as a male char. Another question, when your companions become jedis, do they lose all their special abilities affiliated to their previous classes (ie: sneak attack)?
  13. You've been waiting for TSLRP to play KotOR 2? Not really. I got a new pc last september and I have been playing all those games that have been sitting on my shelves for years (because I couldn't play them before). I first played Kotor 1 and Jade Empire and completed them both. I was hoping that TSLRP would be finished by the time I completed those games but It was a false hope. I might buy The Witcher Enhanced Edition to kill time. I won't buy NWW2 till the second XP gets released and gets sold in a nice package along with the OC and XP1. I know, I might wait for a couple of years but I don't care). BTW, what's the max level you have reached in KOTOR II? 25-30?
  14. I am afraid I won't have the luxury (nor the patience) to get two playthroughs. That is why I want to get the most out of my first playthrough. Note that I am just planning my character so far. I intend to really play the game when The TSLRP will get released (during Christmas hopefully). If all goes well, all the Atton cut-scenes will be restored and playing a female char will get more interesting. Concerning my character's class, just call it an aesthetic choice. I really want to have this balance in my party. Which party members will betray you? That question is quite crucial to me so that I may choose my class accordingly to what happens.
  15. Hi everyone, I just started playing Kotor II and I was wondering what my character should look like. I have a couple of considerations to take into account in order to create my character: 1) Should I pick a male or female character? Is Disciple more interesting and easy to influence than Handmaiden? Or is it vice versa? Do you get to romance Atton as well if you pick a female jedi? 2) What jedi class should I pick? I would like to have a general balance within my party where each core jedi class will be represented. My main worry is that some of your party members might betray you and that you may lose one useful jedi and thus break the balance I mentioned. For example, I think that Kreia betrays you at some point. If you play a non-jedi consular male character, she will be the only consular in the party. If you lose her, no one else is going to cover her position and I don't want such thing to happen. Can someone give me some advice please? I don't mind reading spoilers. Thanks in advance!
  16. I have re-read the alpha-test book once more and I am less enthusiastic all of a sudden. Paizo has some really neat ideas but I am afraid I will only keep around 1/4 of them. I will be keeping some rules that add variety to the game but drop all the rest. Races do not need to have an extra bonus +2 to a stat, some class bonuses are way overpowered (the fighter's martial style bonuses shouldn't get higher every five levels for example). I mostly like the idea of allowing players to pick class-specific abilities among a list that is exclusive to each class.
  17. Another useless book that makes things way too complicated. A DM just needs the information contained in the SRD plus a few tables that cannot be found elsewhere than in the DMG (I can easily photocopy those).
  18. I don't know about the US, but my RPG shop is selling away all its 3E and 3.5E merchandise. Most of WotC's books are sold 50% or 70% cheaper than their normal price. This offer doesn't include the core books yet but I am sure these offers will soon affect all of Wizards' catalogue. I expect this to happen near June or July (whenever 4E comes out). What books do you suggest me to buy? I already plan on getting the monster manual but I am more skeptic when it comes to the Phb and the DmG. The former might be quite useful since it contains all the feat, skill and spell descriptions. The latter seems less useful to me. Most of the DmG's contents can be found on the SRD, and the few information that is exclusive can be photocopied from a friend's book. All the supplements look useless as well: there's no way I am going to shuffle all these books during my gaming sessions. Besides, they usually tend to complicate the rules more than anything else. I might buy the Oriental adventures campaign book though. It looks quite nice. What do you think of it? My problem with WotC is that they never bothered consolidating all the information contained in their supplements. If they did that, I would go buy their books without a second thought. I cannot have a dozen books all around the table while DMing, looking for the specific bit of information contained in each one. Sure, there is the spell compendium but I am not even sure I want to buy this one (well, if it costs 12 euros, I might give it a try). In any case, I try to keep things simple and offer reasonable choices to my players without going too far in terms of complexity. For example, I have banned psionics and rules from Magic of Incarnum from my games. Do you think that most sellers (like amazon for example) will start selling the 3.5E stuff at reduced price?
  19. I don't know but the game session loses some of its fun when your characters get much too powerful. The same can be said with computer or console RPGs. For example, I have always loved the first parts/chapters of Final Fantasy games. Your characters are nothing extraordinary, you know you are vulnerable and you really struggle to survive. Gaining much too power gives me the sensation of playing in some kind of super hero/anime universe.
  20. Epic levels simply suck. I have banned them altogether from my playing sessions. My players rarely get beyond level 15. Low level campaigns are more to our taste...
  21. BTW, I really hope a CRPG is made out of Pathfinder in the future. I am sure this will rock even more than d&d CRPGs. Either Obsidian or Bioware, I don't care who does this...
  22. To tell the truth, I am very excited about this. I am 90% certain to buy this one when it comes out. The changes brought to the SRD are very interesting. In a sense, each core class can be customized in such a way that you can recreate most of your favourite d&d prestige classes (adding some house rules sure helps). As I said in another post, my main worries concern game balance. In theory, it seems the creators have taken this into account. All the classes are considered to be ECL+1. Races are ECL+1 as well. In other words, one can use this set of rules in a d&d campaign provided that the players makes characters two levels lower than what is normally required for the campaign.
  23. That's fantastic, guys! I knew I could rely on you! Thank you so much!!! I will make sure to give you all credit for what you have done when I will hand the new files to my gf. Cheers.
  24. They work fine on my computer. Do you have the latest versions of adobe acrobat? I have both Acrobat v7 and v8 installed on my pc.
  25. Hi guys, My girlfriend has asked me to clean up a scanned document she just made. I don't really understand how she got this result. She just told me that made some photocopies, then cut them because they weren't aligned correctly and stuck them on some blank paper. Go figure... Her problem is that some borderlines on the right side of both scanned pages are still visible and she wants me to erase them. I have tried editing the whole document with Adobe Pro but in vain. I believe only Photoshop or a similar software will do the work. Can someone help me with this, please? Thanks in advance!
