... perhaps manifested were still enduring disappointment from the olympic women's high jump field, none of whom managed 2.0. dunno. regardless, if you don't have at least one kubrick film on your top 10 list, then we must suspect that you has been replaced by a doppelganger (a skrull if you prefer) or that you is suffering from brain-eating amoeba. paths of glory and dr. stragelove or: how i learned to stop worrying and love the bomb both make our top 10. fmj is admittedly kinda two-movies-in-one. the second half o' fmj is chaotic and that understandably don't work for everybody. even so, is excellent film with a few incredible performances and a number o' the more memorable scenes in movie history. we like the dark knight, spider-man 2 and captain america: winter soldier-- is all fantastic films, but am not even gonna try and suggest that any o' the three were better than spartacus, much less fmj. 'course different tastes in movies is perfect acceptable. is not as if we need all appreciate raging bull or kurosawa's ran as much as did Gromnir. ... even so, am still voting for "brain-eating amoeba" as an explanation. HA! Good Fun!

The Weird, Random, and Interesting things that Fit Nowhere Else Thread
Gromnir replied to Rosbjerg's topic in Way Off-Topic
hbo is making a Fahrenheit 451. http://www.vulture.com/2016/04/ramin-bahrani-to-adapt-fahrenheit-451-for-hbo.html the reason we bring it up in this place is that we hope hbo does it right, and we hope bruce sees the film... and perhaps then reads bradbury's novel, 'cause the book ain't about what most believe it is 'bout. novel were written in 1953 and it were a a dystopian and prophetic look at the sjw movement. you don't recall it that way? is 'cause you only know 'bout the book from wiki or some other source. perhaps more tragic is that in this day and age, so few o' the gg folks and others who howl 'bout the excesses o' the sjw movement know that bradbury wrote a book championing their cause 60 years ago, and it sits largely unread by the folks who would see it as a revelation. one day left and vegas weeps... and our east german judge no doubt. we do feel a bit sad for the numerous competitors that were likely precluded from participating in spite o' having never been part o' the ubiquitous and state-sponsored russian doping scheme. given the extent o' the cheating, russians were gonna get little benefit o' doubt. perhaps the blanket condemnation were deserved. dunno. few whistle-blowers came forward to expose russian cheats. and heck, one whistle-blower were nevertheless prevented from competing, which will no doubt discourage future athletes from calling attention to state-sponsored doping. regardless, given how meaningful is the olympics in many sports, we nevertheless feel compassion for those innocent russians denied the world's largest and brightest stage. HA! Good Fun!

you could be right. we will note that Gromnir were the fastest guy on our high school track team, but we were involved in multiple sports, and we were kinda a ****, so we rare practiced relay. didn't have time or inclination to practice relay. "it ain't rocket science," was our typical rejoinder when we were told to practice exchange. anecdotal, but our high school relay had 1 dq in two years. it ain't rocket science. HA! Good Fun!

isn't this reactionary as 'posed to modern? a toggle for friendly-fire IS modern, so obsidian figurative telling players to man-up and not cast fireballs at their own party or burn is sorta the opposite o' modern, yes? HA! Good Fun!

from Gromnir's earlier post 'bout brain development in children, we would not hold the crumb-snatcher responsible for the injury and subsequent death o' the dog. intellectually we would not hold the child responsible. emotionally? can't unknow. would we treat the child different even knowing that the child was incapable o' understanding that what they did were wrong? would be difficult to treat child same as before knowing. heck, knowing that gifted is a cowboys fan is difficult enough to overlook. HA! Good Fun!

psychology o' sports is so strange. obviously the 4x100 team has been getting it right with enough frequency that they is usual in the finals. get through any number o' heats and semis w/o a hiccup, but then screw the pooch in the finals. makes it seem like a mental issue rather than one o' diligence. but what is the solution? is team not thinking enough 'bout exchange? unlikely. thinking too much? possible, but after so many fails, how do you train self to not think 'bout something too much? have seen this kinda thing on any number o' sports teams we participated in or coached. guys do it right in practice literal thousands o' times, but in competitions, they invariably blow coverage, or throw interception or whatever. frustrating, particularly as the fail can becomes viral. HA! Good Fun!

when our mother died, we were the only person present. for various reasons, our sister and father were not in attendence. no other friends, o' which she had many, gathered at her bedside. Gromnir were not actual close with our mother, which made the whole situation odd. felt wrong that we should be the one to comfort her and to be witness to her death. she deserved better. *shrug* our mother did not "go gentle into that good night." were more than a couple hours o' tortured gasping, like a fish struggling on dry land. kinda horrible. doctors finally give her increasing morphine that effective rendered her unconscious... while she continued to gasp. the struggling became gradual less labored, and the gasping more shallow 'til finally, mercifully, she died. took from dusk 'til mid afternoon the following day for our mother to die, and during a significant and unnecessary measure o' that span, all we saw on her face were pain and terrible fear. we did not share the whole truth with our father and sister. to our family we explained pulmonary embolism and we described how the doctors gave mom pain meds to ease her passing. we did not share the truth. never. when we spoke at our mother's memorial service, and afterwards, we did not share the details. lies o' omission. perhaps what we did were wrong. to hold back truth is not in our nature. in hundreds o' other traumatic situations with clients and family, we has been brutal honest. people deserve the truth. when our mother died, we believed that our family and her friends deserved the truth, but we chose instead to carry the dark reality o' it our self. perhaps we were wrong to hide truth, but am certain our mother didn't want to be remembered for the suffering she need endure in her final day. we took the truth . is our burden. don't know the dog owner's reasoning, but we obvious can't judge.

never rely on cracked. period. the site likes to be controversial and show folks that their common held beliefs is wrong, so they will often use debunked sources or misleading numbers to make a point. case in point, worldwide, 66% o' terrorism death from 2013-2014 were attributable to four sunni muslim groups. total islamic related terrorism is closer to 80%. sure, if you limit to the US and western europe where there is, y'know, very few muslims, then o'course the numbers decrease for islamic inspired terrorism. then again, you need be careful to avoid 2001 and 2015-2016 as well. 9/11 Really skews the numbers, and if you is trying to make a point 'bout the relative infrequent occurrence o' islamic terrorism in the west, all those bodies is a harsh counter-argument. also, have an article in 2016 that purposeful ignores the recent rash o' islamic terrorist incidents in the US and europe is also a bit dishonest, no? am recalling one o' those cracked articles that were trying to set us straight 'bout what were life like in north america before european settlers. friend sent us the link. no doubt she thought we would be happy to see somebody finally dispelling the "lies" 'bout pre-columbian, native american culture. never has we seen such misleading numbers, not to mention reliance on sources that had been discredited decades ago. cracked is a fun source, but don't take serious. is worse than wiki. HA! Good Fun!

misunderstanding. ain't the number but the manner in which such has been used. obama has frequent used executive orders to circumvent Congress. is not the number o' orders that makes folks cry foul but rather the belief that obama has far exceeded the limits o' executive authority as granted to him by the Constitution. admittedly, in the last couple decades, Congress has become willful impotent. folks on the Hill is purposeful not doing their jobs. is less risky to do nothing and let courts and the executive fulfill the role that once were within the zone o' influence o' the legislative branch. obama's executive orders arguable has exceeded Constitutional limits, but Congressional incompetence has created a power vacuum that were gonna naturally be filled by either the States or the POTUS. what obama has done with executive orders is, all too often, unconstitutional. is not quantity but quality. the thing is, obama were only in a position to misuse executive orders to the degree he has 'cause o' long-term, unchecked, Congressional futility. HA! Good Fun!

I didn't have clue who he was before Suicide Squad, even though I have seen three movies where he has been (Fight Club, "Girl, Interrupted", and American Psycho), and I would guess that I am not only one whom that is the case. So sudden hate towards could be because people actually noticed his acting. leto received much positive reviews for his performance in dallas buyers club, and the adulation were deserved. am thinking we mentioned elsewhere but the way in which facts were twisted in dbc annoyed us. even so, the performances o' main actors were so good that we nevertheless considered dbc to be a fantastic movie. haven't seen suicide squad, but leto's star in hollywood were clear ascendant Before his recent joker portrayal. as a person who has not seen the movie, we cannot help but wonder where the criticism comes from. is this a situation such as tommy lee jones portrayal o' two-face? no actor, regardless o' his mastery o' craft, were gonna save batman forever from joel schumacher. alternatively, perhaps leto went too far down the rabbit hole as a few articles suggest. am curious, but not curious enough to see suicide squad in theaters. HA! Good Fun!

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/06/15/new-evidence-donald-trump-didn-t-pay-taxes.html am not certain why this stuff is a tertiary issue. hillary's email stoopidity and trump's chronic speech gaffs is at the center o' campaign discussion in the media, but perhaps no campaign in our recollection has focused so little on prospective policies... and again, am not certain how trump is getting a pass on tax returns from media and from his own supporters. tax freaking returns. HA! Good Fun! ps is studies that suggest that the t-rex were predominant a scavenger. and for all we know, it mighta' had a disposition akin to a week-old kitten.

what the hell why isn't that censored but so much else that is very arguably milder is 'Cause Jessie Ventura said it and he's cool. Supposedly. I think he's a jackass but that's me. And a sexual tyrannosaurus. never understood that turn o' phrase. after all, look at a t-rex's hands. y'know what they says 'bout small hands, yes? mick jagger is a sexual t-rex, 'least 'ccording to keith richards. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2321974/Sir-Mick-Jagger-admits-Keith-Richards-apology-****-jibes-prerequisite-Rolling-Stones-reunion.html HA! Good Fun! ps tax returns. am still not understanding how trump is getting a free pass on this. so, tax returns.

I believe you have also read me saying that hyperbole and internet forums go together like peanut butter & jelly. It makes for lively discussion. But I do figure you know where I'll come down on most "public interest vs individual liberty" issues. Besides, democracy isn't the spackle, it's the sand paper: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/11/us/colorado-lawmaker-concedes-defeat-in-recall-over-gun-law.html?_r=0 spackle were your metaphor for government excess. the People is the government. *shrug* we do indeed know where you is coming from on "public interest v. liberty," which is exact why we posted the following: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/88595-the-us-election-2016-part-v/?p=1836498 claim you is just kidding is only partial true, no? nothing wrong with using funies to get a point across, but subtlety may not exact be your strong suit. HA! Good Fun!

salmon fishing in CA is a $1.5 billion per year industry. conservation efforts to protect salmon is not specific an endangered species issue (with a couple extreme rare examples,) but rather a commercial concern. HA! Good Fun!

there are a handful o' potential water conservation projects being delayed or altered by the presence o' endangered species. is kinda amusing when a needed dam cannot be built 'cause o' an insect or a mulberry bush. even so, the drought/shortage is only related to endangered species in the most tangential way. HA! Good Fun!

oh, well, 'cause we has been doing something for centuries is always a great excuse for continuing bad behavior. you crazy southerners. eating and drinking while driving is kinda stoopid, even though we all do it. if a majority o' folks in new jersey agree through the Democratic Process that eating or drinking while driving is too dangerous, and there is surely nothing in the Constitution that prevents such a law, then claims that such makes you question whether we live in a free country is... amusing. btw, the People is the folks applying the spackle. so why does gd hate democracy? HA! Good Fun!

yes. the extreme endangered sky whales that cause rainfall has been disappearing at an alarming rate over the past century. ever since folks started going to school and learning 'bout convection in elementary science classes, sky whale sightings has decreased to the point where they now face almost inevitable extinction. ... 'course, a half decade o' record low rainfalls and almost non-existent snow-pack in the sierra nevadas might also be at the root o' the problem. *eye roll* HA! Good Fun!

its not the typical "that guy" however. that guy, in this instance, wouldn't shake hands 'cause his opponent were a jew. bad sportsmanship at the olympics can (and has) resulted in lifetime bans, but this kinda nonsense is a bit different, yes? HA! Good Fun!

*shrug* am thinking that the study ignores that not all freedoms is equal. personal freedoms should be given more weight, no? looks like many o' the southern states have issues with personal freedoms. additional, poor states is understandably gonna have less regulatory laws as they simple cannot enforce even good laws. etc. regardless, its the price o' democracy. act surprised or angry that State and local Government is taking away 'freedoms' is kinda silly, no? is the democratic process at work. enough folks agree that smoking in restaurants is bad and that "there should be a law preventing it," hopeful results in such a law being passed. sure, is an infringement o' liberty rights, but virtual all laws is. prevent small business owners from being unfair to employees or operating without safeguards for the public is an infringement o' liberty and freedom. prevent folks from bringing invasive species o' plants and animals into a state is terrible burden on personal liberty *snort*, but the democratic process often arrives at the reasonable conclusion that west nile virus and dutch elm disease and japanese beetle infestations is stuff folks wanna avoid. 'course, the tyranny of the majority is always a threat. all you need is +50% to take away freedoms o' the minority. is democracy, but it is often stoopid, shortsighted and even cruel. the reason why the Bill of Rights and protections o' fundamental rights is so important is they is a check on the inevitable excesses o' the People. interesting but misleading link. HA! Good Fun! It was just discussion fodder Grom. Tongue was firmly in cheek! kinda tongue-in-cheek, no? am recalling you recent railing 'gainst new jersey and their efforts to limit impaired driving. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/88392-the-us-election-2016-part-iv/?p=1834051 HA! Good Fun!

fundamental misunderstanding. hobbes' state of nature is undiluted freedom and liberty. "for the laws of nature (as justice, equity, modesty, mercy, and, in sum, doing to others as we woud be done to) of themselves, without the terror of some power, to cause them to be observed, are contrary to our natural passions, that carry us to partiality, pride, revenge and the like." we purposeful sacrifice freedoms and liberty to acquire comfort and safety. even so, there is particular personal freedoms which should never be offered up on the altar o' necessity. is fundamental liberty values we cannot allow a democracy to offer in exchange for comfort. HA! Good Fun!

Wow that is awful. Shame said human is too small to safely smack around. said human is incapable o' understanding why and how what they did were wrong. is not 'til ~10 years o' age that children have brain development to genuine understand right and wrong. takes even longer to get genuine empathy and a fully developed sense o' morality. children looks like little people, but they ain't. children, particularly young children, is sociopaths. parents tend to project qualities onto their kids that do not exist. the notion o' a good child is somewhat meaningless. a well-behaved child is possible, but good ain't an option 'til almost teens. “there is nothing more atrociously cruel than an adored child.” --vladimir nabokov its not their fault. they don't understand. even so... regardless, am most saddened. when an innocent creature suffers due to the cruelty or thoughtlessness o' men (or children,) it is a tragedy. pointless. meaningless. unnecessary. all too common.
