  1. "As a result, equity must be applied to a certain extent - and unfortunately for some - on a case by case basis." am not gonna out anybody, but am disappointed to hear that old scheme is still in place. if you got a rule that "for some" is applied different than for others, then you ain't actual applying the rule equitably. *shrug* am sensing another dead end, and this thread ain't the appropriate venue regardless. disappointed. HA! Good Fun!
  2. curious: is the old policy that board rules is applied ad hoc and inequitable the norm or simple a quirk o' the mod with whom we conversed? HA! Good Fun!
  3. a committee of fellow moderators. am also suspecting that not all complaints of individual moderators actual go to committee. if bob complains 'bout finovar to finovar, is up to finovar to bring that complaint to the review committee, yes? *shrug* is extreme rare Gromnir has an issue with a moderator which results in a complaint. one time we "complained" public 'bout a mod by expressing surprise at his/her being recent chosen to mod. the mod had recent been involved in a apoplectic confrontation with our self and the confrontation had shocked us at the time as we were, surprisingly, not being the least bit confrontational our self at the time. were some general anti-american rhetoric from the new mod and other nonsense. the new mod apologized retroactive for the post, but am doubtful the issue went to committee. another one o' our infrequent complaints were 'bout treatment of karzak by a mod, but our complaint were limited to pm 'tween the mod and our self. mod admitted the specific karzak behavior that elicited censure would not have been a problem if posted by many other posters, but given the mod's knowledge and past dealings with karzak, he decided to take action. we observed that application o' the board rules in such an ad hoc, personal and inequitable manner rendered the board rules meaningless. rules is different for Gromnir than for bruce? am having a hard time believing our "complaint" were reviewed by committee. we complained in a pm. the mod discussed briefly. the mod dismissed our concerns. the end. no doubt gifted can see the inherent flaw in the system that requires the mod to bring the complaint to committee, yes? *shrug* where does one direct complaints of mods to be ensuring they go to committee? am asking for future reference. am doubting an obsidian administrator goes through all moderator posts and pms to ensure that complaints is being proper routed to committee. HA! Good Fun! ps yes, Gromnir actual complained to moderators regarding karzak being treated unfair by mods. our defense o' karzak alone shoulda' given the mod in question pause.
  4. every Presidential candidate that runs for the office releases tax returns. it is part o' the public's vetting process of candidates. it is not a Constitutional requirement. it is singular useful. for a candidate with no record o' political held office who bases his fitness for the Presidency on his business success, one can argue that tax returns would be essential. every Presidential candidate provides. providing is done bipartisan. trump's excuse for not providing is a non-sequitur. he is being audited? so what? what difference does that make? equal relevant response would be, "i like pie." is not as if providing the returns to the public that he has already turned over to the irs will have any impact on his audit. similarly, pointing out that you want clinton to release speech transcripts should not in anyway diminish the burden 'pon trump to release transcripts. are you people five-year-olds? bobby didn't clean his room so, that means jimmy ain't gonna brush his teeth? asinine reasoning for jimmy and those in this thread. Presidential candidates provide tax returns. the information from tax returns is useful-- nobody denies that point. trump has no relevant excuse as to why he won't provide. so, two words: tax returns. but why won't hillary ______? *snort* be a good boy and brush your freaking teeth. ridiculous. HA! Good Fun! ps "people have got to know whether or not their president is a crook. well, I am not a crook." that quote from nixon were not related to watergate. were instead the rationale for nixon providing the irs with a small mountain o' information to convince 'em that he weren't playing fast and loose with charitable donations. is also one reason why every candidate running for the office o' President provides tax returns.
  5. tax returns. ... tax returns. tax returns. tax returns. any question from or regarding trump should get a two word response: tax returns. HA! Good Fun!
  6. tax returns HA! Good Fun!
  7. not a great version o' "in the pines." is one o' our only criticisms thus far, which is a good sign. HA! Good Fun!
  8. for clinton, "meh" might have been the goal. no new scandal. the only real hurdle to victory for her is a new scandal being revealed 'tween now and the election. clinton's lead has diminished, but it is still substantial, and we suspect clinton has thrown-in-the-towel on the notion o' being swept into office with an overwhelming mandate from the people. "just win baby!" to win, clinton needs to avoid another scandal. tim kaine is a swing state choice and he is... inoffensive. kaine choice is gonna alienate more than a few sanders supporters and more liberal democrats, but those folks won't be choosing trump over clinton. HA! Good Fun! ps if something does go wrong related to kaine, his name alone makes for great headlines. "mark of kaine" stuff writes itself.
  9. am thinking you can blame on the lawyers, and the Constitution. would be more appropriate for individual States to make municipalities and counties report. 'course that is gonna require 50 individual States to create legislation many will spin as "anti-cop." fed law? is kinda a tougher row to hoe? might ask enoch how he would pen such legislation. fed can encourage individual States to comply with fed guidelines by making fed dollars contingent 'pon... whatever. if fed got a "general welfare" goal, the feds can put limit on fed dollars to encourage State compliance. 'course this would ultimately be requiring State action. point is getting all those individual municipalities and counties to report is a bit more complex than it seems to be on its face. ... am thinking it is difficult, particularly for non-americans, to understand just how limited is the fed government in the USA. 'course so many o' the conspiracies that rely on the Evuhl Government also fall apart when one realizes that our fed is far more limited than is similar institutions 'round the globe. perceive some kinda widespread government conspiracy related to American cops ignores that there is no such thing as American cops. is a map o' the municipalities in st. louis, missouri... as a complete random example. many o' those municipalities got their own police. there is also gonna be State police, county police, and in places such as california, a freaking highway police. is disorganized. is intended to be disorganized. the lack o' organization is 'posed to make our police, the folks most likely to be using force on our person, more accountable to the people being policed, rather than accountable to jefferson city, missouri or washington dc. makes sense. makes the conspiracies ludicrous. 'course such disorganization also makes for lack o' oversight. s'posed more accountable to local, by definition makes 'em less accountable to state and fed but local municipalities frequent ain't up to the task o' policing the police. changes is needed, but is a more complex issue than it first appears. HA! Good Fun!
  10. oddly enough, the fact the victim didn't want medical care would bother Gromnir more than elliot's claims and potential illegal recordings o' phone conversations. if you were genuine assaulted, then why not go to hospital to get the injury documented? gonna need more info. 'course the medical care issue is one o' the few situations where our sexism may be shining through. men who don't seek medical aid when questioned by cops we will sometimes supply a machismo excuse. tough guy gets his nose broken in a one-sided fight and in front o' a crowd o' people (or his girlfriend) he stoopid refuses medical treatment. we get it. whereas for a woman we attach a more sinister motive? bad Gromnir. and yeah, we saw the dennis green news. will always recall his post bears game meltdown. fantastic tv. oh well. he will be missed by many. HA! Good Fun!
  11. How does insanity in Europe prove that something is wrong with the US? Maybe both sides are insane? I'm just pointing out that cop violence is less acceptable. Nothing more than that. Cop violence is not acceptable. The only time they're allowed to use deadly force is when someone's life is in danger. not exactly true. if "the officer has probable cause to believe that the suspect poses a significant threat of death or serious physical injury to the officer or others," the police can use deadly force. the threat to others need not be immediate. cop thinks that in some kinda nebulous near-future, the defendant mighta' attacked an innocent bystander while fleeing the cops? good enough. graham v. connor reaffirms the fleeing felon rule and observes that the test o' appropriateness is "from the reasonable officer perspective on the scene." is not hindsight or 20/20. and again, to prosecute cops, one needs overcome beyond a reasonable doubt standard that All american criminal defendants gets. fleeing felon rule actual has its origins in english common law, so can't blame the US Constitution for this one. HA! Good Fun! ps facts o' graham don't actual involve a shooting. is simple affirming the reasonableness test.
  12. so again, what you is specific referencing is gun violence, eh? am thinking we made that point earlier. is not gonna be much o' a debate comparing the genuine excesses o' us cops to say the chinese or russian cops. in spite of media control by state, and far less information o' brutality making its way outta the countries in question... https://themoscowtimes.com/news/21-deaths-recorded-in-russian-police-custody-last-month-45368 http://www.newsweek.com/2016/04/08/russia-police-custody-torture-abuse-441489.html http://www.economist.com/node/15731344 http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-11829793 is a whole list o' nyt articles, but recent ombudsman position were kinda funny. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/23/world/europe/russias-new-human-rights-ombudsman-is-former-police-general.html china has far better control o' information than even russia, so is no surprise that police is spoken o' in guarded whispers in that nation. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/20/world/asia/china-police-brutality-gansu.html http://www.latimes.com/world/asia/la-fg-china-police-brutality-20160510-snap-story.html "impunity" is the right word for russian and chinese police, eh? US gets media coverage o' every error, even when it turns out that the police weren't in error. the military hardware in hands of US cops, btw, is a distraction by the tinfoil hat brigade... same folks that were trying to draw a correlation 'tween events in furgeson and the fact that an ex-police chief in that misourri township were having spent a week in israel getting anti-terrorist training. the issue we should be concerned 'bout regarding military hardware and USA cops is who the hell let the cops waste money on such stuff? in all o' the police shooting videos that is creating such consternation and rage these days, how many was resulting from police rifles in the hands o' cops wearing tactical gear? yeah, when riots break out, the cops bring out all their unnecessary gear and people wonder at the over-militarization o' cops. 'course the national guard, when they show up to such riots is also all tactical and scary. and when people get shot in munich or nice, we see the streets lined with cops in tactical gear and wielding military firearms. seriously, the military gear stuff is more a fear and perception issue... and fodder for the tinfoil hats. HA! Good Fun!
  13. "They certainly don't have the same military type "take no risks" attitude that standard US cops exhibit over and over again. " am chuckling at the rhetoric. regardless, comparison is hardly analogous. usa citizens have handguns and firearms... but specific handguns. would be irresponsible to send cops out into the streets without firearms o' their own and the appropriate training to use such firearms. HA! Good Fun!
  14. first comic book we ever owned were power man. am not actual a big comic book fan, but we do wax nostalgic 'bout luke cage. first action figure we ever owned were falcon, but am gonna be honest that we only got it 'cause we thought the redwing accessory made falcon cool. w/o redwing, sam wilson in the movies doesn't inspire the same kinda nostalgia that does luke cage. ... give us a break. we were seven or eight when we got the comics and the action figure. HA! Good Fun! ps second comic we got were captain marvel #33... which our mother threw away years later when we started living with our parents. and you wonder why Gromnir is seeming so angry all the time?
  15. am knowing it is gauche to quote self. "cops is anticipating violence when dealing with suspects. cops should expect violence when dealing with suspects. cops ain't supermen. cops is people. doesn't take a genius to realize how likely things is gonna get deadly and bloody when two civilians is confronting each other in a heated situation and at least one has a gun, but we act surprised when a cop and a civilian gets in a confrontation and one ends up dead... and guess who is most likely to die?" wondering how much training is gonna be able to fix. most o' us has had some kinda training for jobs. training never prepares enough, which is why experience is so important. *chuckle* not a job, but am recalling our first game experience for Cal. real thing were so not like practice. were not even like high school. first real game experience for Gromnir were a shock. the speed and distractions were not replicated in our training. when we try and recollect, our first game were all kinda a fuzzy blur-- a nightmarish blur. anybody got some kinda statistics regarding the % of cops who actual ever discharge a firearm in the line o' duty? we has heard that the % is small, but we got no evidence to support. regardless, am suspecting that no training in the world is gonna adequate replicate so as to avoid all mistakes. am not saying additional cop training and alterations to basic cop practices is a waste. quite the contrary given how we has argued for such. unfortunately, there is always gonna be horrible mistakes. got a tense situation and at least one person is armed with firearms. unfortunate outcome should not be surprising. we expect better from cops, but even so, we shouldn't be surprised when badness happens... and one horribly bad outcome is unlikely to be particular useful in identifying a need for widespread change. find out this cop did a half dozen things that violated training? sounds like in this instance, the cop made a terrible mistake. for that kinda mistake to happen, we expect he violated lessons learned in training. we likely do need different cop training. we do need to see change. even so, am having difficulty being surprised. take any volatile encounter and put firearms in the hands o' at least one participants to the near inevitable fubar. "the gun just went off," as if that has ever happened. people with training often don't even recall pulling a trigger. can't be surprised, can we? make changes to training, but am never gonna be surprised, particularly in the USA where the chances o' any suspect being in possession o' a handgun is relative high. HA! Good Fun!
  16. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/17124913/ezekiel-elliott-dallas-cowboys-denies-domestic-assault-accusation HA! Good Fun!
  17. am knowing that this is hardly the ideal venue to be mentioning, but it is noteworthy that feargus is responsible for at lest two colossal business blunders that serious damaged obsidian. when obsidian were developing kotor2, they got an okie dokie to expand the scope o' the game. unfortunately, fergie never got the new agreement in writing. so when lucasarts sudden tells obsidian that the old deadline and written agreement is being enforced, obsidian were caught with their pants down 'round their ankles. the metacritic fiasco for fo:nv were also an epic fail and had nothing to do with development. we like obsidian games. we want more obsidian games. that being said, feargus is deserving criticism for a few o' the monumental mistakes that has made it all the more difficult to be keeping the doors open and the lights on at obsidian. cheer him on and hope he does more o' what is good, but don't ignore that feargus has contributed to obsidian's difficulties as well as its successes. HA! Good Fun!
  18. more likely is that this is a calculated political stand. in a couple o' years, many republicans will look back at the trump candidacy as a mistake... somewhere 'tween mild embarrassment and colossal blunder. sure, short-term this hurts cruz, but he is gonna be remembered (accurate or not) as the one man at the convention that refused to hop on the 2016 republican crazy train to hell. cruz is planning for 2020. HA! Good Fun!
  19. Not sure what a blog about painted 25mm miniatures entitled More Medieval Muslims and Halflings. etc. has to do with Turkish warships disappearing but I'm sure Oby sees some direct connection. you actual read oby posts? he could secretly slip in the location o' el dorado and we would never know. ... what else do you do for entertainment? french kiss light sockets? date strippers with daddy issues? watch supernatural? HA! Good Fun!
  20. Hah, we have a heart and a handprint scratched into the hood of our car. am not sure why, but image o' what we assume is santa, his sleigh, and reindeer is what tickles us most. poor kids didn't realize that they were vandalizing santa's ride. coal in stocking. HA! Good Fun!
  21. The bit that seems to be plagiarized appears to be too big of a train of thought and with too many of the same the words to be a "speech template" or a sound byte like "world peace". gonna disagree. again is speech writers for both. and from early in ms. obama's speech, the material is so cliché that it almost writes itself. honest. listen to either speech and predict what is gonna be said next. who cares? is not plagiarizing a doctoral thesis or anything close. is the wives o' presidential candidates reading prepared and predictable speeches that if one dug up speeches o' wives o' US senators from past years they would no doubt find many similar. HA! Good Fun!
  22. I can just see the drones deploying dogs with pepper spray cannons even now... dogs or cyborg dogs? HA! Good Fun!
  23. yeah, the economic downturn were particular hard on men and women in the us military serving abroad. sudden find that you is upside down on your mortgage and got no way to pay. what do you do if you is stuck in afghanistan or parts unknown? many military families fell apart.
  24. am not a cat person, though we do own one that belonged to our sister. http://www.empiricalbrewery.com/cats/ https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20151030/ravenswood/cats-patrol-north-side-brewery-protect-precious-beer-grain-from-rats http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-feral-cats-rats-abatement-met-20160407-story.html anyways, is kinda a great solution to twin problems o' chicago's rat problem and what a no-kill shelter does with feral cats... though the birkenstock and patchouli crowd doesn't like feral cats 'cause they kill migratory birds. can't make everybody happy. HA! Good Fun!
  25. as if either one o' them wrote their own speech. hell, we can find a dozen (dozens?) republican or democratic Congressman from the past decade who sound as if they is reading from the same freaking script. am not a trump fan, but this, o' all things, is a non issue for us. HA! Good Fun!
