  1. Reporting from the credible Eli Lake. https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2017-05-08/washington-loves-general-mcmaster-but-trump-doesn-t Trump is livid with McMaster for undermining him. In his doghouse. if trump had read the text and viewed the video in our links, he wouldn't have been surprised by mcmaster behavior. *shrug* is more than a few o' us who has wondered just how long mcmaster and mattis would remain part o' the trump administration as neither were likely to compromise principles to stay in favor with the chief executive. from the start, we didn't see a way for mcmaster and trump to coexist long term, but we were relieved an intelligent voice-o'-reason would be in the room if wh crises did arise. heck, fire mcmaster and perhaps get paul van riper to come outta retirement? would be a hoot. HA! Good Fun!
  2. stuff inside the bones evokes ranger for us, but more important is actual definition https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/marrow?utm_campaign=sd&utm_medium=serp&utm_source=jsonld works on multiple levels HA! Good Fun!
  3. we got a bit of experience with fighting and sports. build up emotion before a fight is easiest, 'cause impossible to maintain such for long. most fights is actual brief, which is good 'cause fighting and/or contact sports is exhausting-- physically and emotionally. best coach speech ever is gonna get you up for a few minutes. sure, is gonna be moments or events in combat which reinvigorate, but am actual believing the proposed poe2 approach to barbarian rage is more in keeping with our experience. bond don't bother us as is a ranger thing, and the animal companion, whether utilized or not, is the class-defining feature o' the poe ranger. focus is already a poe resource and is kinda generic in any event. bond won't bother us, but for a hunter kinda class, we likes marrow as an evocative kinda descriptor. HA! Good Fun!
  4. such stuff might make sense save for the brutal amazon training every ww has endured. if the movie shows gadot sleep-walking her way through her themyscira amazonian training, w/o the traditional obligatory sweat and toil and struggle, then we could accept a plausibly rail-thin ww who were able to similar magic her way past monsters and mayhem rather than muscling her way to victory. this isn't 1978 or even 1988. got carrie ann moss in matrix or jessica biel in blade looking instead like characters from the devil wears prada, and am thinking many/most will find it peculiar. heck, elizabeth blunt, who is back on board for edge of tomorrow 2, coulda' claimed the power suit were doing all the work. no need for those workouts. elizabeth blunt looks attractive in devil, but is a different than rita vrataski role, eh? regardless, one wonders how fans woulda' reacted if henry cavill had taken a similar approach. scene would be a kinda different if henry had the build o' your typical k-pop, boy band member, eh? HA! Good Fun!
  5. before the trojan horse, the story o' pandora existed... and pandora were a trojan horse. pandora, a created being, were imbued with many gifts from the gods, but is hermes who made her, uh, well, a treacherous slattern. pandora were gifted to epimetheus so as to destroy man/men. HA! Good Fun!
  6. Did you turn 30 recently? I swear, you're getting more cynical by the hour and to be fair, the viking scene at the start o' the first episode is not how the novel began. when the viking longboat myth is eventual shared in the book, it is less campy, and is much darker than fuller's version. laura has also been dealt with different than in the novel. even so, along with a bit o' unnecessary exposition in episode 2, failure to use the longboat story from the novel would be our biggest complaint thus far. technical boy has clear been updated as well, though am thinking he needed one. gonna be a multi-season series for a ~450p book? is gonna be, we suspect, plenty o' new material. cause for concern and anticipation, eh? HA! Good Fun! ps am thinking the buffalo-man works better as a buffalo. minor change, but... pps (late edit) is likely other differences, but in the spirit o' full disclosure, even though Gromnir has ridiculous good memory, we read american gods sixteen years ago. an suspecting we will miss multiple changes.
  7. I think Gina Carano could have made an interesting Wonder Woman myself. And yes, I do agree that Gal Gadot looks way too frail for the role. any number o' lithe actresses coulda' dedicated themselves to a little gym time and found a way to add noticeable muscle-tone. sure, linda hamilton's t2 transformation may be the most famous for a skinny actress who got ripped for a film, but hilary swank, jessica biel (pictured above) and emily blunt is all examples o' frail actresses who dedicated themselves to a bit o' weight training so as to be taken more serious in a role. gadot is just such an odd choice for ww. if she were an incredible actress with unimpeachable acting chops, am doubting folks like Gromnir would be so critical o' her lack o' dedication in the gym. am not knowledgeable o' the franchise, but from all accounts, ms. gadot's acting contribution to fast and furious were o' dubious merit. adding a bit o' muscle would not convince us she could act, but it would show us she were serious 'bout the role. is no question the new ww is pretty and exotic. what else? even so, won't take long to decide if godot is a fraud or legit as ww. am not gonna see the upcoming ww film on opening night, and am doubtful we rely on a manifested review, but am admitted intrigued by the film in spite o' our reservations 'bout the actress playing the titular role. HA! Good Fun! ps am not trusting manifested only 'cause he clear wants to like this film. seems a tad invested.
  8. you can make korgan effective ignored by demons with a low-level priest spell or scrolls. you can negate most insta-kills with his kit abilities or scrolls. as for the rare time stops, that is why you got your own wizards in a party, but chances are you wouldn't need 'cause your likely super-speed korgan with weapons o' doom has likely killed any but a handful o' bg2 foes in a matter o' seconds. is not much need to argue this further. if you are honest not seeing grandmaster korgan, dual-wielding hammer o' thunderbolts and the axe of yielding as an example o' bg2 op, then poe is clear not the game for you. such munchkiny nonsense is exact the kinda ie bagage the obsidian developers were ridding themselves o' when they built poe. still got got all kinda poe features which is familiar to the ie fan w/o the busted arse korgan example, so claims o' spiritual successor failure is dubious at best. as for complaining justified ignorance, am unmoved. nobody in their right mind is gonna assume everything 'bout poe would be identical to the ie games, particular as the ie games were so varied. would be impossible to make poe like all the ie games. even so, if you contributed to the kickstarter, then you would get emailed developer updates. read or not is on you. if you were late to the party and simple bought on a whim, then feign ignorance 'cause thac0 were abandoned or dual-classing were missing or the aforementioned insta-kills were removed would be a prime example o' recognizing ye olde warning to the foolish: caveat emptor. again, the reasonable person is gonna assume changes would be made. you not care enough to check what is different is on you. 'course is moot as you is now informed. so congrats. problem solved, eh? every class in the game is having combat use, so all classes fight. if is simple the naming nomenclature which continues to baffle you, then am amused, but am doubtful there is much help coming your way. get a name-change from fighter to defender seems unlikely at this point, yes? 'course to simple demand poe fighters who can fight ignores reality and the developer response to your complaint. perhaps you did not notice, but poe is a squad-based, tactical combat game with rpg elements. to play poe w/o one or two tanks makes it more difficult for your party to fight effective. heck, we rare do a potd run without a tank and an off-tank. nevertheless, chanters fight. priests fight. ciphers fight. fighters do indeed fight. *shrug* also, if you are gonna refuse to read or respond to the actual developer reasons for making the poe fighter, "low-maintenance, reliable, and long-lived even in marathon battles," as 'posed to being able to chunk everything and withstand trebuchet strikes as were the case with 2nd edition fighters, then am not gonna be able to make much headway. we linked. don't wanna read? don't understand? am not seeing how to help you. am repeating self. until we get word from obsidian, am not seeing a reason to prolong the agony. am actual a bit curious 'bout obsidian plans for a number o' poe classes which mutated with every build... and for the rogue which largely kept its original role and thus became marginalized. 'course is gonna be nothing but conjecture 'til we hear from the developers or get our hands on the beta. HA! Good Fun!
  9. am ambivalent 'bout gadot for reasons stated multiple times on these boards. too little to be positive 'bout and not enough to be convinced gadot is a fail. am actual most intrigued by danny huston. with the exception o' sam raimi's spider-man flicks, and perhaps loki in thor, the dc properties has made a much greater effort to develop villains than has marvel. have thought danny huston were underutilized in most films, so while it seems unlikely, am hopeful he gets a chance to impress. HA! Good Fun! ps as an aside, am most cynical 'bout the wonder woman film 'cause o' a cgi main antagonist, even if is being voiced by a decent actor.
  10. not the same, but reminded us o' caddyshack HA! Good Fun!
  11. Strange, from my experience people that complain about diverse societies are either close-minded (general fear of anything different and lack actual historical context for how constant change and diversity is in human society) or have a degree of hatred towards others. Oh the irony. Oh the naivety. Oh the hubris. Oh the perpetuation of quote blocks. I wonder if there's a limit to the quote block, anyone care to help me test it? seeing as it is the most compelling question heretofore birthed by the thread... Do we have any black members in this forum, anyway ? yes

  13. Lol I just watched that darksiders 3 trailer for the first time, anyone accusing that thing of being an Anime trope is WELL within their rights. Cartoony looks, ridiculously proportioned, stupid smirk, highly arrogant condescending dialog/tone, the only box she didn't check was boob plate, but her armor was overly elaborate and goofy looking enough. Literally everything you just stated as "clear anime influence"--cartoony looks, ridiculous proportions, stupid smirk, arrogant dialogue, and also boob plates which Fury doesn't include--is also the tick-box for "how to make a Warhammer 40K Adeptus Sororitas character". And are you going to tell me that Warhammer 40K is "anime"? we sudden get new character sketch and artwork for a potential companion which is describing a magically created super soldier who mutated unexpected cipher abilities and were constant afeared of possession by demons from an alternate dimension. you might even find the background description o' the tormented cipher to be compelling stuff. have the artwork show a +7' tall human in enormous damaged but highly ornate armour wielding a hammer o' implausible size. wouldn't matter if you call anime inspired or warhammer librarian knock-off. in either case, some folks would see as ill-fitting the poe setting. such folks would likely be curious as to why obsidian went in such a curious direction with a poe companion/sidekick. regardless is not arguable whether numerous folks do see anime influence regarding ydwin. not think such parallels is fair? moot. HA! Good Fun!
  14. fact sorcerers could be broken did not prevent korgan, dual-wielding artifacts, from also being busted. 'tween his berserker abilities and a handful o' potions or spells, you could make korgan immune to just 'bout anything, and dual-wielding with a hammer which raised his strength 25 and an insta-kill axe were silly busted. oh, and we agree 'bout the naming issue as you would recognize if you read our responses. shoulda' named the poe fighter different. defender or something similar. nevertheless, not only did obsidian explain how a poe fighter would not be functioning the same as a ie game fighter, but they gave reasons as to why the poe fighter would not be able to do exact what you is asking from the developers. all such explanations were made considerable in advance o' the game release, so no surprises or misleadings can be argued. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/68384-josh-says-poes-fighters-and-rogues-arent-boring/?p=1507492 is there a flaw in josh's reasoning, or is you simple arguing nostalgia? you ain't demanding a return to the flawed ie game approach is required simple 'cause o' nostalgia, eh? spiritual successor is meaningless, but even if you see as some kinda gestalt, it sure as heck don't require obsidian to enshrine every ie game/d&d mistake. making fighters equal capable at absorbing and delivering damage in ie games were a mistake as discussed by josh in the link. use dual-wielding korgan hurts your argument as it is an example o' the overpowered nonsense possible in bg2. folks in this thread were pointing out just how fantabulous the poe fighters were at doing damage. such a reality, sadly, were the result o' the obsidian developers letting the poe fighter getting out-o-hand. the poe fighter as it existed in the 3.0 builds were not the fighter described by josh way back in june o' 2014. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/66380-update-81-the-front-line-fighters-and-barbarians/?p=1460938 poe 2 developers should take the chance to correct the class role slippage which occurred during the beta and post release o' poe. numerous classes were given superpowers which blurred their class identities. mistake. HA! Good Fun!
  15. as will be recalled by many, FoD real power is not gonna occur in a vacuum. while FoD and immolation might appear balanced in the hands o' obsidian testers, those abilities is gonna be used different by actual players. FoD will, in point o' fact, be utilized as one aspect o' a synergy. the predictable exploitive potential o' any number-based crpg is not gonna be obvious to josh today. no matter how singularly op the community manages to make immolation, it will be usable 2-3 times in a battle. FoD, and/or some other low-level abilities, will no doubt be far more effective in our hands than in obsidian's. FoD will be useful at level one and level 20. if FoD is scaled to be useful 1-2 times at level 2-3, then am seeing a genuine balance concern when useable potential 11 times. no matter what, FoD is gonna be better than a standard attack at level 20. is probable FoD will be considerable better if it genuine scales. after all, josh has said numerous times obsidian intends to keep low level abilities useful throughout the game. if FoD is only a smidge better than a standard attack, then am not thinking it will genuine be seen as useful. so if is something a player would serious consider using with one use at level 20, then am seeing a problem at near a dozen applications. am not suggesting FoD is inherent broken 'cause o' eleven uses. however, if folks ain't seeing the potential problems, they ain't looking hard. is all the more reason why poe2 needs a genuine comprehensive beta with full range o' levels and abilities made available, if only via some kinda arena scenario. HA! Good Fun!
  16. based on the image we got of paladin abilities, FoD is indeed having a relative cheap resource cost. reviving exhortation costs 4x as much as FoD, so is not difficult to imagine a high level paladin getting at least 10 uses o' FoD per encounter. am doubtful the numbers is exact correct, but josh observed "A 10th level Rogue may have 7 Guile while a 10th level Fighter/Rogue has 5 Discipline/5 Guile." is not ridiculous to assume for the nonce a 10th level paladin gets 7 zeal. HA! Good Fun!
  17. am not having new concerns 'bout monks, chanters and ciphers-- same old system means same old concerns for these classes. am not having a concern for the former vancian casters, 'cause the change to per encounter is overdue. 'bout freaking time. our major concern for paladins, rogues, barbarians and fighters is balance. useful abilities has gotta be available to low-level players. as the resource pool for the aforementioned classes grows with leveling, am seeing the potential for effective overuse o' certain initial/low-resource abilities. perhaps a per-encounter cap, regardless o' resource cost might be something worth considering. HA! Good Fun!
  18. FWIW, I think her background is an interesting one, especially the whole 'on the cutting edge of Forensic Science and a coroner ahead of her time' thing. At least that's how I see it. Exactly. I could care less about any anime influence or lack thereof, I find her background interesting and compelling. interesting and compelling? ... am not certain how such a brief character sketch could be "compelling." at best we understand mild intrigue or equal minor disquiet. personal, other than the animancy angle, Gromnir is finding reason to be cynical 'bout a "charming" scientist with a death fixation, but as we got so little actual background, am ambivalent... at best. compelling? really? in any event, it should be obvious by now that regardless o' personal pov, many folks see an anime inspiration for ydwin. for some, such animus is welcome and is reason enough to be resulting in a kinda fixation inspite o' a dearth o' actual information. (e.g. see above.) other folks is seeing the anime coloring o' a poe sidekick/companion as out-of-place or out-of-touch. egg chair in a room otherwise exhibiting french revival decor? 'course it hardly much matters as to what folks personal see, or do not see in ydwin, 'cause we are all gonna be stuck with largely repetitive ydwin threads for the foreseeable poe2 future. huzzah. HA! Good Fun!
  19. fatigue shoulda' been adopted from the start o' poe, but obsidian is inching towards daylight. if there is a poe3, then perhaps we see genuine fatigue. HA! Good Fun!
  20. Aren't these two objectives mutually exclusive? not at all, particular for folks who is recalling how poe combat were first appreciated at the start o' the beta. one o' the most frequent complaints o' poe combat is related to pace-- is too frenetic. for those o' us who has played the game to death, such speed issues is forgotten or unnoticeable, but many players, particular new players, see poe combat as fast and unforgiving. having a dependable tank which needs less micromanagement (while still providing options if a player so desires to use 'em) is gonna be a boon for many. regardless, the objectives is not mutual exclusive. a low-maintenance class will not demand a player's constant attention, but labeling as such does not preclude the possibility o the developers having provided many combat (and non-combat) options for the player who desires more control o' the particular class. late edit: am aware 'o the tendency o' low-maintenace to seem boring. even with all the actual fighter options, if one simple uses as a low-maintenance meat shield, then the fighter very well could seem boring. however, with 11 classes, one need not like every class, yes? you wanna play more active tank which produces greater dps? is monks and barbarians and paladins and chanters which work excellent as tanks. Gromnir, for example, dislikes chanters. the chanter class is powerful and works as intended, but we prefer priests and paladins for support as we find the chants and invocations mechanics to be less than ideal to our playing style. 11 classes means roles should be more limited. more limited roles means a greater likelihood somebody won't like a particular class. however, eleven classes also means there is likely to be an alternative class available which should meet a player's expectations. This is my main issue. In the IE games, which PoE is supposed to be a spiritual successor of, fighter-types were not only capable of holding back melee enemies, but they were capable of dishing out damage as well. Korgan dual-wielding the Axe of the Unyielding and Crom Frayer was a terrifying sight indeed. lord, save us from the "spiritual successor" stuff. it means nothing. while obsidian never promised such, whatever you mean by such a label is gonna be different than what Gromnir or maxquest or gifted might mean. whatever is the essential qualities and aspects o' spiritual successor is so elastic as to deprive the shibboleth o' any actual meaning. poe has classes and familiar races and an isometric top-down view o' a multi-character party. is many ways in which poe and the ie games were similar. why ain't the poe gestalt o' familiar ie features enough to be making it a spiritual successor? 'cause the poe fighter ain't enough like the bg2 fighter? is different for you than for many others. pointless to claim spiritual successor failure for a specific feature. (insert eye-roll here) poe fighters were identified, from the earliest days o' the poe development, as being different from the ie class o' the same name... which, ridiculously, is what folks is getting hung up 'pon. if the poe fighter were having been called a defender, and the rogue had been identified as a skirmisher, am suspecting most complaints wherein ghost o' ie were raised would never have happened. why should name be the problem when the developers made very clear the ie and poe versions would be different? nobody were snookered or tricked and nobody save for karakov complained... which ain't throwing him under the bus, but is rather an acknowledgement that he alone o' the folks complaining during the beta who had also posted in the fighter intro thread had some justification for doing so. you point to a horribly broken bg2 example o' a well nigh unstoppable korgan dual-wielding overpowered weapons as to what is wrong, what is missing, from poe. no. just no. HA! Good Fun!
  21. as has been noted already, such were not the case for poe, particular following the release o' the expansions. is too bad too. poe has classes, which is an inherent flaw, but obsidian did an admirable job o' making the most o' an otherwise bad starting point. to create so many classes, each with a unique role, is kinda impressive. unfortunately, as obsidian added levels and responded to player demands, the class roles became blurred. fighters in poe were never intended to fill the same roles as ie game fighters. the poe fighter were 'posed to be a low-maintenance "tank." http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/66380-update-81-the-front-line-fighters-and-barbarians/page-1 "Overall, fighters are designed to be low-maintenance, reliable, and long-lived even in marathon battles." there were literal dozens o' folks applauding the announced roles for the frontliners, with one exception: karakov. he were the only guy who criticized the fighter as being described a bit like a vanilla mmo tank. everybody else posting seemed to agree the limited role o' the poe fighter, which would be much different from an ie game fighter, were a good thing. 'course once the beta started, folks feigned surprise http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/68384-josh-says-poes-fighters-and-rogues-arent-boring/page-1?hl=%20fighters%20%20rogues%20%20boring josh again attempted to clarify the fighter role in poe http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/68384-josh-says-poes-fighters-and-rogues-arent-boring/?p=1507492 sadly, in response to community pressure, classes such as the paladin and fighter were... altered. by the time o' white march 2, the poe fighter were once again capable o' dishing out serious hurt while simultaneous able to withstand direct hits from a trebuchet. the expanding o' roles, while welcomed by the community, were a mistake. why play a rogue when a fighter could do similar dps? in any event, while is unlikely to happen, we would much prefer the fighter, and other classes, be retooled so they more close correspond to the original roles for which they were assigned. poe2 developers should improve the fighter by making it a more interesting low-maintenance tank rather attempting to make the fighter good at everything. HA! Good Fun!
  22. am expecting the "bellyaching" will be intermittent but noticeable 'tween now and at least six months following a possible expansion. some folks will continue to lobby for ydwin inclusion in the base game. some will discuss possible changes to ydwin in spite o' the extreme paucity o' info we got regarding her. some will wanna discuss ydwin inclusion in the expansion. some will wanna discuss how poorly/excellent were the ydwin inclusion in the base game and why such failure/success should influence the possible inclusion o' the character in an expansion. some will wanna discuss how adding a lab coat to the the pale goth-girl with glasses in short skirts fixated 'pon death needs a lab coat to highlight her scientist profession... and perhaps a penguin pet. etc. 'course whenever ydwin becomes a topic, some will rush to defend and some will gripe. HA! Good Fun
  23. disagree. seems to us you managed to successful glean the point of the thread. HA! Good Fun!
  24. This is hilarious to me. am actual sympathizing. initially, bio romances bothered Gromnir only in the abstract. bio romances, being optional and tangential, could simple be ignored. wasted resources? *shrug* no biggie. the increasing numerous and vocal promancers, on the other hand, were a blight 'pon the bio boards. the inability to romance bethany hawke in da2 were serious debated? our initial indifference towards bio romances were indeed colored by the vocal proponents o' bio romances. sports metaphors don't do well in this place or we woulda' used boston red sox or dallas cowboy fans to illustrate. HA! Good Fun! ps the cowboys bit were included 'cause gifted is reading. mostly kidding. mostly.
  25. well, if we were talking 'bout an eyepatch wearing longbowman, we would indeed have questions. if eder sudden became a steampunk inspired tank with clockwork armour and glasses such as the following , then yeah, we would have criticism on multiple levels. out of place... and stoopid. sure, the idea o' a melee combatant beyond the door o' the fencing salon or kendo dojo wearing glasses is ridiculous. whether is boxing or sword fighting or wrestling or kids beating on each other with broom handles and trash can lids, folks in close-quarters combat tend to end up rolling 'round in the dirt and mud. glasses is gonna be dislodged. glasses is gonna be fouled with dirt, mud, blood, saliva and rain. glasses, particular the ones made o' genuine glass and thin metal frames is gonna break when exposed to predictable treatment a melee combatant would endure regular. worry 'bout getting broken glass in eyes is a negligible concern, but keeping glasses in working condition and clean enough not to be a hinderance is just... silly. but so what? is loads o' silly stuff in crpgs. impractical and improbable is the norm. the problem is as shady observed: the ydwin concept art (which includes glasses) is "out of place." HA! Good Fun!
