  1. btw, the trump budget would cut fed aid to pine ridge by 50%. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/89152-the-us-election-2016-part-vii/?p=1844961 the tribe invested in bitcoin a few years ago. we thought it were an idiotic venture at the time. gonna need check to see if the oglala benefitted from the recent bitcoin explosion. wouldn't be enough to cover the loss o' fed funds, but it might help. oh, and throwing oil on the fire... http://www.startribune.com/apnewsbreak-2-more-leaks-found-along-dakota-access-pipeline/423678613/
  2. "and that's so you remember it." am not having a strong opinion. most o' our enlightened friends seem to think any kinda corporal punishment is unnecessary and evil. doesn't sound right to us. never got corporal punishment in school, other than having to hold dictionaries aloft with arms outstretched. effective. we did receive extreme rare whoopins as a child, and am thinking we deserved most of 'em. whatever abuse we suffered as a child were not the result o' physical punishments. *shrug* only posted 'cause we had an oblique kinda excuse to post the scene from kingdom of heaven. HA! Good Fun!
  3. how could you mention the chanter subclass and not mention the barbarian option josh revealed a smidgen earlier? "have i mentioned that one of the barbarian subclasses is "corpse eater"" HA! Good Fun!
  4. whatever patterns folks see as obvious for likely radicalization, isn't. first generation. third generation. economic successful. poor. single. married. educated. not. intelligence groups would be relieved if folks hereabouts could send 'em some kinda verifiable profile o' likely radicalization, but a dependable profile don't exist. nypd counter-terrorism had a profile based on a 2007 report, which were afterwards dismissed in large part 'cause real world events such as san bernardino showed how unreliable were such profiling. peter bergen, whom folks might know from national geographic or cnn, wrote a book (haven't read it) on the subject o' radicalization and in a pbs interview, bergen observed: "there is a sort of patent way people adopt these fundamentalist views. they increasingly seek out like-minded people, they kind of withdraw from society,” he said. “they basically are part of a self-reinforcing echo chamber of people who share their own views, and some may turn to violence.” sadly, he couldn't offer a useful profile neither. looking at the radicalized in retrospect, it becomes apparent how radicalization took place, but actual predictive high-risk attributes is elusive. as is common and natural, folks seek security in correlation. suspect in the next attack will maybe be uneducated and second generation. sure enough shortly after such an incident we will see pundits proclaiming the obvious linkage 'tween economic and cultural forces 'pon uneducated, second generation _______ which make radicalization so much more likely. genuine common characteristics is limited. male and muslim? 'course even those labels is nowhere near universal. nevertheless, we seek security from correlation as it (erroneously) transforms unpredictable into ordered. HA! Good Fun!
  5. well, episode 4 o' american gods was, for the most part, tv-specific content. am having few complaints 'bout the laura moon character expansion. good episode. episode three were great and disappointing. more ian mcshane is a good thing. playing a more puckish al swearengen, although he hasn't said c0**$***** once. mcshane's character is different than we envisioned, but am enjoying the changes rather than being bothered by 'em. on the other hand, the jinn encounter were almost complete inverted. overall, am thinking episode 3 suffered from being erratic. too much unrelated content. still enjoying. HA! Good Fun!
  6. hmm. gd sounds a bit like trump complaining 'bout media lack o' terrorism coverage. is maybe not sooper convincing to use a cnn link to convince lack o' coverage, eh? https://www.google.com/search?q=tennessee&rlz=1C1CHFX_enUS699US699&oq=tenn&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j0l5.4854j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#q=tennessee+community+college+free&tbm=nws btw, the original TN program got plenty o' attention 2.5 years ago on these boards and elsewhere. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/69988-obama-to-propose-free-community-college/?p=1555052 regardless, as much as we support these kinda programs, the tn approach would also get more attention if the numbers o' college graduates were better. most stories proclaim how many folks attended college, but the numbers o' actual grads has been disappointing. need to get folks degrees as 'posed to simple getting 'em a bit o' college. am knowing amentep is annoyed by the misrepresentation o' the benefits o' a college education. he is correct, but one needs be extreme myopic to ignore the correlation 'tween long-term monetary success in the US and the possession o' a college degree. HA! Good Fun!
  7. perhaps an early audition as skeksis for the upcoming dark crystal remake. HA! Good Fun!
  8. steak and eggs and home fries. rib eye steak, pan seared in a cast iron skillet with canola oil, then cooked in oven quick at high heat. medium-rare. let reabsorb juices for a few minutes. at same time, prepare home fries. russet potato, bacon, yellow onion and jalapeno. bacon first. Thick bacon. real bacon. dry cured bacon. borderline blackened for Gromnir, but is a preference thing. remove and crumble. reserve a bit o' bacon grease. cook onion in bacon grease and add jalapeno after onions has caramelized a fair bit. remove onions and jalapeno from pan. add potato to the pan with bacon grease. am actual finding 2-3 minutes in the microwave for a single cubed potato works better than par boiling as as a first step in cooking the tater. we were cooking for self, so only used 1/2 potato. add a little garlic powder and paprika... or cayenne or whatever. do not cook onions and peppers and potato together. never gonna get nice and crispy potatoes cooking in the same pan as the onions and peppers. once the potatoes is golden brown and crispy, throw the onions and peppers and bacon back in the pan a minute or two before you are ready to serve. in a separate pan, with reserved bacon grease, cook egg. fried. doesn't matter. add bleu cheese & shallot compound butter to steak. we always got at least a couple o' varieties o' compound butter in the freezer. is one o' the few things which freeze well. good steak don't need butter, but figured wth. other choice were anchovy-garlic compound butter. nothing particular fancy. am now feeling full. past full. not uncomfortable full, but nevertheless am aware we exceeded satisfied and achieved gluttony. if we were gd, we would probable go out on the back porch, and shoot something small and furry... or feathered. as an alternative, we will perhaps read for a bit. annoy the neighbors for an hour or so by allowing the dogs to bark at deer on the golf course. digest contented. HA! Good Fun! ps am highly recommending frying up potatoes in duck fat. am current out o' duck fat, which is inexcusable but it happens far too frequent.
  9. am personal taking a goodfellas approach to garlic mince as fine or cut as thin as possible to get most kick outta our garlic. mellow garlic is nice, but am pretty sure pauly would have us wacked if he found out we were indulging. HA! Good Fun!
  10. gonna keep brief as is moot at this point. our approval o' sanders were not necessarily what he would bring to the Presidency but what he would have contributed to the campaign agenda and to the national dialog. for instance, increasing income disparity is near the top o' our list o' concerns. while we didn't necessarily agree with bernie, he were addressing the issues Gromnir saw as most important. people is no doubt tired o' hearing us suggest the president is less powerful than is assumed. insofar as domestic issues is concerned, the president's greatest power is found nowhere in the Constitution. the president has the ability to shape the national agenda as he/she is the single most visible elected member o' the fed government. bernie woulda' gotten important things done, even if he failed to get things done his way. HA! Good Fun!
  11. But he suggested that Clinton, sure of victory, "played it safe," and missed opportunities to present a narrative that would have appealed to voters.-- npr dec, 2016 again, obama were as much the cause o' hillary's loss as was hillary. for obama to complain 'bout how hillary handled the campaign seemed, in vernacular vol could understand, weak sauce. HA! Good Fun!
  12. obama said he woulda' won if he coulda' run another time. HA! Good Fun!
  13. obama criticizing hillary is kinda sad. throw hillary under the bus is a gutless way to try and salvage obama's legacy. hillary were, as we said many times, a terrible candidate. we much prefered bernie. but... presidents get blame and credit for economic undeserved. where the president does manage to champion major economic changes, the most substantial impact is rare felt significant during their presidency. even so, obama gave us a serious messed up foreign policy situation and saw the US became political and cultural more polarized than anytime since the 1970s. obama had a mandate from the people when he were elected. he had backing of Congress. to do so little with so much were inexcusable. if obama had done his job a bit better, virtual any centrist democrat coulda' won in 2016. rejection o' a future with hillary in the oval office were in large part a rejection o' obama's present and past failures in the same office. as such, the only single person we would blame as much as hillary for hillary's loss were obama. gutless and weak for obama to blame hillary given the circumstances. that said, hillary were a terrible candidate. HA! Good Fun!
  14. Don't think about it in terms of reducing complexity or increasing the ease of gaining a true understanding of the underlying mechanics. Think about it in terms of SPEED. Getting through character creation as quickly as possible. Shapes allow you to select the value of several stats with a single click. CLICK and off we go into the game. I believe the basic motive here is that visually overwhelming, time-intensive character creation sequences scare people away from RPGs. It doesn't really matter so much how "difficult" the underlying mechanics are. The real problem is that you have to spend a significant amount of time comprehending and then manipulating a wall of numbers before you get to play the game, regardless of the true difficulty/complexity of the system they represent (although of course those things are correlated to an extent). "yeah, the learning curves should be flattened even in highly complex crpgs. there is no genuine advantage to be dumping the entirety o' a new rule system 'pon a game purchaser. if you got levels in your game, to be demanding a player make the mostest important and numerous character development choices at level 1 is bass ackwards. is axiomatic that the point o' the game where we will know the least 'bout game mechanics is at the beginning. life may be unfair, but gamess don't need be. developers should make more significant character generation choices occur later in the game rather than early. sure, there is gonna be fundamental choices made during the intro portion o' a title which will have major impact 'pon future gameplay. race o' your character is likely gonna be decided at the start o' the game, and such a choice will and should be meaningful. is gonna be multiple fundamental choices made early. fine. is all the more reason to avoid demanding more than necessary o' the starting player. "am actual (kinda) liking tim's triangles as a starting point. we want many character development choices, but we do not need all, most, or many such choices at the beginning o' the game. is any number o' games Gromnir has played, games we liked, which had us restart after investing dozens o' hours into the title 'cause we discovered the character we believed we were building did not match expectations. only way to fix fundamental flaws were to start over from the beginning. the desire to restart and "get it right," is a common issue for us, and having read these boards for decades, we know we ain't alone. is no reason the player cannot be confronted with more character generation/development choices after they gots a better understanding o' the game mechanics. have us make choices after we get comprehension o' how the game actual works makes far more sense than demanding the uninitiated and ignorant beginner decide the most important character development and generation choices w/i the first 20 minutes o' game experience." repeating what we said at start o' thread. we get the value o' a simple start, but as some kinda general rule o' game development for replacing numbers with shapes? uh, no. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/92420-tim-cain-at-reboot-develop-2017-building-a-better-rpg-seven-mistakes-to-avoid/?p=1908891 HA! Good Fun!
  15. as a chicago fan, am in a similar situation as the kings following. though, in all honesty, our basketball fandom has waned considerable since 1993. as crazy as it sounds, the dominance o' chicago for almost a decade forever ruined our enjoyment o' pro basketball. 'course the college game has become increasingly terrible in recent years. *shrug* HA! Good Fun!
  16. one cannot help but feel some sympathy for the kings. manage to get isaiah thomas with a second round pick. trade him away and watch him become arguable one o' the best pg in the league. now the kings is likely needing to draft a pg with one of their two lottery picks. shoulda' traded boogie earlier and kept thomas. HA! Good Fun!
  17. am saving the popcorn for comey testimony. maybe buy a box o' raisinettes and a cinema-sized dr. pepper too. HA! Good Fun!
  18. am wondering which bond villain he will use as inspiration for eddie brock's voice. sounded like auric goldfinger for bane, so perhaps julius no or max zorin for venom? rosa klebb would be our vote, but am doubting he goes such a direction. HA! Good Fun! ps forgot the second "b" in klebb. knew it looked wrong.
  19. "http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/trump-told-russians-that-firing-%e2%80%98nut-job%e2%80%99-comey-eased-pressure-from-investigation/ar-BBBjeDT?ocid=spartandhp" "Once again, the real story is that our national security has been undermined by the leaking of private and highly classified conversations." somebody needs to tell the wh how ridiculous it sounds for them to complain of leaking classified info at this particular moment. am not disagreeing that the wh needs to get its $#^& in order insofar as leaks are concerned, but any mention o' wh leaks is only gonna remind folks o' trump's most recent faux pas. HA! Good Fun!
  20. am still complete missing the fixation with shapes. gonna start with the recognition that no, not all people is visual learners. any teacher is gonna recognize the mistake o' assuming people all acquire and process information the same way. the fundamental assumption o' the superiority o' visual learning is in error. visual will be best for many people. not all. probable not even most. use fallout example of special also is curious. if the gameplay difference between a special three intelligence and a four intelligence is more significant than the difference 'tween four and five, such an observation ain't a recognition of the fail problem with numbers but is rather a problem with how the developer used the numbers. simple solution is to genuine provide the player equal value for every point invested in an attribute. such is even more clear than shapes, no? numbers is gonna be essential to virtual any crpg mechanics. whether you present the player with shapes or colors or sounds is gonna simple be a way of expressing the numbers which is actual working behind the scene, so use numbers from the start seems most logical. temperature increase may be expressed with a volume change in a tube and color gradients and perhaps a steam whistle sound when ______ gets hot enough. whatever. no matter how you wanna express temperature, a chemist or baker or even a chef is gonna want those thermometer readings with exactitude. fry chicken or bake a cake succesful can be achieved through trial and error, by response to visual, auditory and olfactory cues. why? certain chemical changes happen precise and predictable. go ahead and express exact volume or weight of ingredients w/o numbers. express temperatures w/o numbers. complicates rather than simplifies. a crpg, combining conditions and qualities and circumstances is gonna make predicting success or failure of various actions at least as complex as is frying chicken. have us try and predict success or failure with lucky charms cereal shapes and colors does not strike us as particular intuitive. wanna add shapes and colors and sounds to the numbers for a more visceral experience and for those situations when exact is unnecessary? sure. is extra work, but am seeing the value of adding learning modalities (gonna need ask hurl if such is the correct nomenclature) but the numbers is the essential. dunno. am still missing something. HA! Good Fun!
  21. am knowing this is likely to confuse the matter, but we should mention how most o' the relevant first amendment art cases deal with living artists. try and silence a living artist who has already been given permission to display his art is tending to be repugnant to the constitution. artist don't get a perpetual right to display his work, but try and remove a work immediate 'cause o' public response is gonna be troublesome. the first amendment protections is, with a few confusing exceptions, a prohibition on the state in defense o' a speaker's fundamental rights. there is an implied right (5-4 decision) to receive a speaker's message, and such a right has been used infrequent to protect against the prohibition o' books. the educational value o' books typical outweigh the weak community interest to suppressing vulgarity or offensiveness. however, in cases concerning State (fed, state, local) commision o' a work, located on public property wherein the original artist is deceased, such cases typical die for simple lack o' standing. the speaker needing protection is not in court to protest. the message o' the original artist ain't diminished by moving a statue to a museum anymore than is a book diminished by placing it in a library. prevent removal o' a statue nominal owned by State on public property is a tough case particular with a temporal remote created work o' art and no living speaker/artist to protect. HA! Good Fun!
  22. to be fair, there is Constitutional limitations regarding what books can be exorcised from school reading lists. is quite ambiguous what such limits is, but most attempts to ban individual books fail in the courts 'cause reasons for doing so is too transparent content-based prohibitions. typical cannot remove books from shelves simply 'cause the state doesn't like the message. one o' the justifications by the courts for defending school/library books from banning is the educational value o' books. even so, the statues and memorials is viewed different than books, for what we would think would be obvious reasons. huckleberry finn may offend or trigger or whatever is the in vogue language o' the day, but while people may be offended by concepts in the book, twain's book gotta be read extreme narrow to be seen as advocating racism. have somebody at hurlshot's school actual teach advocacy o' racism using huckleberry finn would last 'bout 10 seconds, no? confederate flags (which again, only gained usage during and after the civil war) and statues of folks who is inextricable linked with the perpetuation o' slavery is gonna understandable annoy many. is the statue o' jefferson davis having an educational purpose? is the jefferson davis statute in fact being used to educate people 'bout the inadequacy o' a decentralized government in times o' crisis? is no doubt why you got a grand old statue to show how bad were the situation jefferson davis were facing. make an enormous statue o' a drinking fountain with the label "colored" 'pon it. do it up in bronze or marble. maybe have some famous southern politician standing next to the fountain... or not. set it down in the center o' charleston south carolina. private property? not much the government can do. thank goodness. but public property? tell us it represents decades o' southern traditions. tell us the folks o' charleston shouldn't be able to ask for the removal o' the statue to a museum rather than a park. even if gifted thinks the statue has educational value, you still thinks folks in charleston should have no say in removal? and yes, statues enjoy same protections as paintings. gifted's painting or Gromnir's painting enjoys protection. state wanna tell gifted he cant have a statue o' a gold drone displayed in his gallery or home? such ain't gonna work. converse, some city hall yutz gives gifted permission to display his statue in the richard j. daley and it not mean we is stuck having to endure gifted's statue in perpetuity. HA! Good Fun!
  23. eh? who are you talking to? what book burnings do you see paralleling the placing o' statues into a museum rather than having 'em public displayed? go ahead and try to take Gromnir's books, or gifted's books? Constitution protects. at the same time, your link includes burnings of books by private citizens. such burnings is Protected here in the US, in case you were unaware. wanna make a political statement by burning the right stuff? go for it. at the same time, "hide" away books in a government building where folks can voluntarily visit (or not) and still see 'em and read 'em. one wonders what might we call such a building to house books? am knowing you think there is a parallel, but you ain't actual making one. HA! Good Fun!
  24. if the city of new orleans decided to get rid of their library, what other than the democratic process would or should stop them from doing so? you aren't making sense. HA! Good Fun!
