  1. When you put it that way, the new system sounds very much superior. Deadfire system has an in-game gold cost for resting a lot (resource management). Pillars 1 system had a real-time cost (meh!) Though I'm afraid the gold costs for resting in Deadfire turn out to be very minimal. based on the little 'mount o' ship management costs we has seen from deadfire, am believing the money costs for excessive resting could be exorbitant. HA! Good Fun!
  2. Wow, soft one aren't you. well, they (am not certain o' the poster's gender, so will keep neutral) are actual doing something meaningful to challenge a developer and/or publisher. online petitions is utter pointless as a form o' protest, and letter writing campaigns is only slight superior. actual boycotts is far more effective as a means for changing the behaviors o' an individual developer/publisher and o' an industry. the recent nfl draft reveals Gromnir's hypocrisy regarding cte. sure, we only watched a handful o' pro games last year, but we did watch college football almost religiously. in spite o' our complaints 'bout the dangers o' brain injury in the nfl, we continue to watch. if we final worked up the resolve to cut football out o' our life, then am thinking it would show strength o' character rather than softness. that being said, we will observe how those who castigate the sjw crowd as easily triggered or snowflakes do appear a bit hypocritical when they lose their water at the use o' a gender neutral pronoun in a mech game or the existence o' a minor transsexual npc in crpg. on topic: am actual gonna wait 'til first patch to play battletech. with deadfire just around the corner, and a less than accommodating schedule, am knowing we would only get a dozen or so hours into battletech 'fore we need decide whether to finish or to put it on hold for deadfire. wait 'til first major patch for battletech should solve our quandary while resulting in a more enjoyable first run o' the mech game. HA! Good Fun!
  3. am thinking there is good reasons for going the specialized wizard route if you have a second arcane caster or multiclass caster in the party. we played an enchanter for funsies and while the enchanter benefits struck as almost criminal insignificant compared to the schools prohibitions, it were not difficult for our fake maia geomancer to pick up the spells our enchanter could not cast. HA! Good Fun!
  4. the current rest system may be abused if you don't care about ship management costs and you are willing to hardtack rest after every/most encounter(s). the previous rest system were exploitable if you were willing to find an inn following every battle no matter how long the trek back to town. we didn't have a major issue with poe resting save for our general issues with the silly and impossible-to-balance-for quasi-vancian casters o' poe. were prohibitive for developers to predict how well rested were a particular player's party casters for anything save boss battles. a well rested 10th wizard with all spells available to him were a complete different level o' power than a 10th level wizard down to his last level 2 spell slot. unnecessary design hurdle. we do not have a problem with the current rest system save for acknowledgement o' the potential for encounter-hardtack rest-encounter cycles with players effective having an empower opportunity (or two for priests with seal spells) during every combat encounter... but as Gromnir don't have any intention o' utilizing such overt rules exploits, is a non-issue. *shrug* HA! Good Fun!
  5. Can't think of any offhand. Tigers are pretty solitary. Same with panthers & cougars in North America and Jaguars in South/Central America. House cats seem to be pretty social with each other but I'm not sure if that's their way or just the accident of cohabitation. Katphood, Tale or LC could probably say better. They have a lot more cat experience than most of us. cheetahs are social, but not like lions. females cheetahs tend to be solitary, but males live in groups. am recalling cheetahs and lions as being the only cats described as "gregarious." HA! Good Fun!
  6. warning: although the following is a video from c-span, there is a few instances of off-color humor and vulgar language. not bad for a whcd routine. a few funny moments. a few uncomfortable moments. am knowing invocation o' franken is verboten these days, but both of his whcd routines were fantastic. HA! Good Fun!
  7. got one less party member, so is one less something regardless. also, a pure caster in poe were a given while in deadfire such is an option. is not exact fair to compare and show paucity. so, how many party members will you have who include pure caster or multiclass caster? *shrug* wizards, particular 'cause o' silly opness o' grimoires, is gonna be ubiquitous in our parties. single-class wizard will be ubiquitous. period. honest, given how limited is power-per-level for all classes, am amazed at the degree grimoire advantage is seeming being overlooked. meta knowledge o' grimoire content and location will be an unavoidable exploit for anybody who plays deadfire more than once. am suspecting everytime we leave aloth out o' our party, we are gonna be seeming gimped for the duration. poe priests were not essential in the first title, but they are even less so in deadfire. 'course our first run will have a priest (xoti) and either a contemplative or templar pc. so... ciphers is a (too) strong class following beta 4. am foreseeing how we will be rotating edér, maia, and serafen as our dedicated mechanics monkey. serafen will likely be a witch in our parties, so yes to cipher. tekehu sounds like a character we will wanting to punch in the face. am hoping we are wrong, but the arrogant artist schtick doesn't bode well. sure, we expect there to be tekehu drama which is gonna explain his character, or lack thereof, but... meh. even so, am gonna have tek in our party at least as long as it takes to complete his companion quest, and we intend to have him as a single class druid during such times. will replace single class priest xoti when convenient. etc. HA! Good Fun!
  8. draft is over and will provide thoughts later, though am honest not knowing too many o' the day-three-and-beyond guys other than what the pundits tell us, and repeating pundit pov is kinda pointless. am actual most interested in an undrafted d3 player who signed with the bears. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000926141/article/cb-michael-joseph-is-drafts-most-improbable-and-inspiring-story the kid is raw and has never had proper nutrition and training, but am thinking he were actual a bit underrated based on what we saw from senior bowl game and practice tape. for a 6' cb, he has loose hips and great change o' direction. smooth backpedal. isn't intimidated by big receivers. has a nice closing gear too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5SNnXIA53w yeah, its d3 competition, but he did the same stuff at senior bowl and senior bowl practices. am actual a bit surprised he weren't a day 3 pickup for some team. HA! Good Fun!
  9. https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/91290-undead-hunter/?p=1877422 https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/86025-favourite-class-and-why/?p=1800103 https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/80477-support-casters-as-a-party/?p=1710090 etc. am part o' the not triggered half. as amazing as it sounds, we were literal the only person during poe beta who suggested priest were the mvp class, and is still curious to us how few folks appreciate the offensive capabilities o' the poe priest class. have said it before, but am suspecting folks rare used their poe priests as anything but a buffer and healer. is no question priests excelled in such a role, but their potency in the traditional support role blinded folks to the actual potential o' priests. too bad. HA! Good Fun!
  10. attributes for maia, pallegina, tekehu and ydwin is viewable in the most recent twitch stream. however, the distributions is peculiar in that they is a bit more optimized than one would expect, and we suspect a respec by andy. also, gear (including pet bonuses) and consumables is likely altering the viewable numbers. am embarrassed to admit we do in fact recall all the attributes (and skill levels) for the joinables utilized in the recent twitch stream, but am too lazy to post all such info. displayed companion/sidekick attributes is viewable near end o' the stream... almost immediate before final battle. HA! Good Fun!
  11. as an aside, am assuming shaquem griffin is a day three guy, but perhaps he sneaks into late round three. am thinking most teams who draft will be looking at him as a high character special teams guy, but with the right coaching staff, he is gonna get a chance to prove he is more than a feel good story. is gonna need impress in practices, and with nflpa negotiated practice restrictions and limitations, griffin will have relative little opportunity to change hearts and minds. oh, and we didn't say anything 'bout the broncos draft 'cause they kinda had a no-lose opportunity with chubb and nelson available to 'em. coulda' flipped a coin to decide 'tween the og and the de and would be an excellent pick regardless. am thinking elway were as equal unimpressed by the qb options as were Gromnir, so were kinda the enviable choice o' deciding which great player to choose. browns were curious... both picks, but am gonna say first genuine surprise for us were the 49rs. thought for sure they were gonna take minkah (sounds like a russian girl's name) or possibly even a lb given the foster news. mike mcglinchey is a good player at a premium position and sf clear is wanting to protect their new qb investment. even so, we didn't see it coming. is not a bad pick, but am admitting surprise. seems likely the colts trade one o' their early second round picks, but might actual be better to hold onto'em as there is good value... unless they can transform one o' those picks into a first round pick next year. will be interesting. HA! Good Fun!
  12. good advice seeing as how we vomit a little at the thought o' an arcanum sequel. hold breath and vomit? no thanks. HA! Good Fun!
  13. is a few first round talents available for tomorrow. dallas had zero'd in on vander esch for a while, so the pick weren't a real surprise. is a serious boom or bust player though. only one full year as a starter and some injury stuff. not surprising with the lack o' experience, vander esch has a tendency to overcommit and he don't shed blocks great, but he gots almost preternatural instincts-- fantastic anticipation. actual plays faster than his 40 time, and for a guy his size, his 40 is fantastic. packers trade looks amazing on paper, and jaire were the best looking cb at the combine this year. injury issues and size are biggest concerns for jaire. barkley were, in our estimation, the second best player in the draft, but such ain't a criticism as we think quenton nelson were a once-in-a-generation guard... but convince a team to pick a guard top 3? the thing is, the first round qbs, none o' whom genuine impressed Gromnir as a top five kinda guy, better not become franchise qbs, 'cause if they do, then the pick o' a rb could be argued as a waste. real need for the giants were ol. compare: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/rush_yds_year_by_year.htm https://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/qbr_year_by_year.htm which list o' guys got super bowl rings for their teams? in today's nfl, is so tough to rationalize a rb at number two, but barkley is so darn good we cannot complain too loud 'bout the pick. minkah fitzpatrick were our number 1 safety, but manifested should be happy 'cause derwin james were not far behind on the boards o' most experts-- surprised he were available for the chargers. one knock on the guy is he don't have great field awareness... gets tunnel vision. is wrong of us, but am hopeful we already have a preview o' baker mayfield's career as a cleveland qb. punk. cleveland draft were... curious. mike mcglinchey were the most solid ot in the draft. even so, am gonna admit we were surprised he were picked at 10. mcglinchey is a high character guy and am thinking such is needed in sf. kolton miller, on the other hand, would deserve to be a first round pick just as soon as every team in the league replaces their turf with cardboard, 'cause miller only looks good on paper. fantastic combine workout for miller if you only looked at measurables. am knowing folks talk 'bout what a great qb class this were, but we didn't see it. the only guy we saw as kinda a sneaky boom or bust guy were josh allen who physically looks like the prototype nfl qb, but has as low a floor as his ceiling is high. oh, and allen has accuracy issues. college qbs do not get more accurate in the nfl... although they sometimes look good for a single season. rosen and darnold were predicted to be top five picks last year and am thinking scouts didn't bother looking at film from this year. neither pac ten qb looked great this year, save in flashes. lamar jackson is an electric runner and a great thrower and he is gonna break ravens fans hearts. jackson had a terrible wonderlic and his run first mentality is gonna doom him to a short and painful career punctuated by a few moments o' greatness. interesting draft overall, and as we noted already, is plenty o' arguable first round talent still available. first picks tomorrow should be generating premium trade bait. HA! Good Fun!
  14. am thinking gd is aware how the geopolitical and global economic realities o' the world we live in makes the calculus o' when and to what degree the US is motivated to interfere in conflicts in the middle east or se asia or even europe is more complex than he suggests. $83mil is a great deal of money, but is relative small compared to hundreds of millions and even billions o' dollars at stake. am actual not favorable regarding the recent missile strike, but not for reasons most common stated. the US already rubbed russia and syria's nose in their puddle-making last year with a missile strike accompanied by an hour warning-- syrians and russians sat impotent waiting for the missiles to arrive. were a powerful message. been there. done that. so this time the US let the syrians and russians know how additional chemical weapon usage will be met with more of the same? am suspecting syria, in particular, can live with such a result. however, more amusing is the chief executive's spontaneous ejaculations resulting in legal problems. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/federal-prosecutors-quickly-cite-trump’s-‘fox-and-friends’-comments-to-help-make-their-case-on-cohen-documents/ar-AAwnlYh?ocid=spartanntp&ffid=gz *chuckle* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_Kh7nLplWo HA! Good Fun!
  15. banter in a full vo game with broad localization is expensive... which is why we has complained 'bout the extravagant addition o' full deadfire vo. as soon as full vo were announced, we assumed there would be no sidekick banter. however, if sidekick quests is actual gone as well, then am surprised. sidekicks were indeed mentioned as being similar to bg1 companions in terms o' development, at least those bg1 companions who also had brief quests attached to the their recruitment or party accommodation. bg2 companions were contrasted by developers as being inconsistent with a few bg2 companions getting genuine deep development, such as jaheira, and those receiving relative little. but again, the sidekick side quests were mentioned along with the bg1 companion analogy. am suspecting there will actually be sidekick side quest in deadfire-- am assuming miscommunication 'tween the genesis poster and josh during the recent twitch stream. however, one should recall the kinda scope we might reasonably expect. bg1 companion quests were extreme limited, as were the companions as a whole... which has led to our fascination regarding the curious nostalgia folks have for a few bg1 companions. we deride bg1 companions, en masse, as existing little beyond the 4 corners o' their character record sheet with a few catch phrases being interjected at seeming random moments. in fact, on the old bg2 boards we gave lanfear a fair bit o' grief regarding her coran obsession as we noted how shallow were all such bg1 companions, but coran actual did get a bit o' development-- he were an unrepentant deadbeat dad. ... german girl had no sense o' humor. shocking. HA! Good Fun!
  16. mechanics boosts trap damage and effects. explosives boosts explosives damage and effects. aside: is perhaps a curious trap quality, but traps is considered ranged weapons. effects which modify ranged accuracy or damage also affect traps. HA! Good Fun!
  17. some love for underappreciated villains and possible our favorite villain scene stephen boyd's villain is beaten, broken and on the brink o' death. he ain't coming back in the next scene. he ain't gonna be cloned or some other such nonsense or deus ex silliness. the villain genuine has been complete and utter destroyed. nevertheless, messala's "triumph" over judah ben hur is profound. the absolute malice o' stephen boyd's revelation and seeming tortured exaltation is making for one o' the bestest evar villain scenes. oh, and the chariot race leading up to the death scene is also deservedly iconic, even if it is a remake. HA! Good Fun! ps apologies for the pan&scan o' ben hur as it dilutes the impact o' the scene, but is the best we found.
  18. party assist is useful for bolstering mechanics. for instance, in the sneak peek preview, while ydwin only has a mechanics of 10, every other party member has at least 2. the howler pc has 8, maia has 6 (maybe), tekehu with 3 and pallegina has 2 in mechanics. am not certain what the total party assist works out to be, but such is the reason ydwin were routine disarming traps with skill checks o' 11 and greater. however, is no party assist for detection. need at least 1 party member with high enough perception to be in range o' the trap to detect it. maia has a 17 perception and ydwin has 16. other party members have less perception. gonna be a few hard lessons 'fore we learn necessary perception for trap detection, 'cause such information is not displayed in the combat log... or anywhere else in the beta. currently in the beta, 15 perception is good enough, but clearly such will not be the case by the end of deadfire if the sneak peek is accurate. HA! Good Fun! Looks like somebody's going to be developing a Svef problem. It gives +5 PER, with a pretty long duration. More with high Alchemy-- MaxQuest's tests in Beta 3 had it topping out at +11.6. Ripple Sponge is also an option (+3 to +8, depending on Alchemy skill). That said, I haven't checked whether any of this has changed in Beta 4. I suspect that a drugs rebalance (hard nerf) is more likely than not, if not now then after any big issues that come up on release are resolved. even ignoring a few o' the curious efficacious drugs, alchemy is the clear win active skill. in fact alchemy is so strong when utilized to enhance already dynamic and robust potions and drugs, we gave up using the skill in the beta as we assumed it would be facing a significant nerf. however, am gonna admit high mechanics and high explosives is also potent skill choices in spite o' the rather limited number o' explosives and traps we had available to us in the beta. overall, am thinking skills is getting less attention than they deserve from beta folks and developers... but such neglect is understandable given how few traps and explosives we got at the moment. will no boubt be exploits and adjustments post release. dha spoilers suggest the detection and disarming o' traps won't be particular onerous, but is noteworthy how obsidian's best deadfire player were caught unawares by the perception threshold for high level traps-- no doubt the result o' using an unfamiliar party configuration. am hoping obsidian makes extreme clear how vital is perception insofar as trap detection is concerned, 'cause even experienced poe players is likely gonna be caught off guard by the new mechanics... mechanic. HA! Good Fun!
  19. party assist is useful for bolstering mechanics. for instance, in the sneak peek preview, while ydwin only has a mechanics of 10, every other party member has at least 2. the howler pc has 8, maia has 6 (maybe), tekehu with 3 and pallegina has 2 in mechanics. am not certain what the total party assist works out to be, but such is the reason ydwin were routine disarming traps with skill checks o' 11 and greater. however, is no party assist for detection. need at least 1 party member with high enough perception to be in range o' the trap to detect it. maia has a 17 perception and ydwin has 16. other party members have less perception. gonna be a few hard lessons 'fore we learn necessary perception for trap detection, 'cause such information is not displayed in the combat log... or anywhere else in the beta. currently in the beta, 15 perception is good enough, but clearly such will not be the case by the end of deadfire if the sneak peek is accurate. HA! Good Fun!
  20. Arent traps detected via mechanic skills instead of perception? no. perception detects. mechanic sets and disarms. HA! Good Fun!
  21. weren't exact ancient history neither. texts remained in use 'til 1970. the good thing is those texts were eventual removed from classrooms. makes one wonder why there is so much more resistance to removing monuments which were erected at same time and for same purposes as were those misguided textbooks. HA! Good Fun!
  22. we noticed how a perception o' 17 were not enough to reveal higher level traps. am wondering what is actual threshold for higher level traps. 18? 20? more? am not knowing the attribute scores for the joinables, but a party o' pallegina, ydwin, maia and tekehu were getting slobberknockered by traps. one assumes there will be a few perception boosting items, but maintaining a kinda metagame minimum party perception is gonna be an issue if a player not wanna get routinely ganked by traps. we also saw at least 1 dialogue skill check o' 20, which for a level 18 character is gonna be requiring serious investment o' skill points. as such, deadfire dialogue checks may be skewed towards hyperspecialization. HA! Good Fun!
  23. well, no. obsidian has control and is not necessarily the market dictating. is obsidian making conclusions, albeit educated conclusions, 'bout market forces and then deciding how best to stay profitable given their understanding o' those market forces. am not gonna assume infallibility o' obsidian given how they has had more than a couple comical unforced errors o'er the years insofar as the business side o' game development is concerned. we like obsidian games, but am thinking there is room to question their business decisions. the why behind failure to be profitable and obsidian solutions for making future expansions more profitable ain't some kinda necessarily reflexive reaction to market forces. wm wasn't profitable. am willing to take such as a given. the rest? HA! Good Fun!
  24. am not thinking it need be an either/or. hopefully such is what josh is awkwardly struggling towards. the grognards got this weird notion o' a proper crpg, and in their view, all right thinking developers should be striving to achieve the ideal. such folks resist any sorta change save those "changes" which bring closer to the ideal. saw this problem with poe development and slavish devotion o' a segment o' backers to ie games. sadly, deadfire development has had same kinda problem but with poe as the accursed ideal. shouldn't need be either/or. developers is thankful attempting to build a better mousetrap and am thinking such exploration o' new possibilities is admirable and beneficial. poe were a nice attempt to improve 'pon ie game fundamentals while getting rid o' unnecessary baggage. failed as much as it succeeded, but obsidian's poe efforts were a step away from the proper or (imaginary) ideal and doing so often lead to improved gameplay. 'course equal bad is the kinda flavor of the month mentality which has folks holding up the success of __________ as proof o' the way to build future crpgs. again, such myopia is how bg got saddled with costs o' adding an mp feature. so what is the evolution? fo3 a few years ago and then skyrim, witcher 3, d:os 2, etc. got these games, many o' which is extreme different from each other, and try to reverse engineer the perfect game from 'em? silliness. is not evolution. is trends. is fashion. as with food and movies and music and literature, some stuff never complete goes outta style. regardless, is not needing be an either/or. HA! Good Fun!
  25. This! "fixed" implies something is broken. nothing is broken. board software accurately displays the time when a post were edited. yeah, Gromnir is old, so perhaps we don't get the expectations o' the younger generation(s). why a game developer should need be sensitive o' the potential bruised egos o' posters who utilize the edit function o' the boards is outside our personal experience and understanding. feel some kinda shame at being identified as a post editor? solution: don't edit. is no personal crisis for us when we see we made an error in a post, but am guessing others is more concerned 'bout such stuff. regardless, is no mystary 'bout how the software works and is working as designed. the edit feature design is clear and it works as one would reasonable expect. nothing broken. no need for a fix. will confess to morbid curiosity regarding how long the thread continues. is kinda like when you hear how a woman had a tapeworm surgically removed from intestines and you cannot help but wonder at the parasite's length. 3'? eventual length o' the parasite is the only real question at this point, no? HA! Good Fun!
