  1. gonna disagree on the how best to spend money issue. alternative: buy a junk. outfit with long guns and double bronzers. then sail to ports for best crew while exploring the map and eradicating any and all named vessels. doing as we suggest will not result in net gain o' money, but it will level you quick, very quick, and provide the player with potential overwhelming early gear. after you explore ever square inch o' ocean for explore bonus, kill all foes for bounty rewards and ship combat xp, then maybe sell off a few o' those superb weapon drops to access upgrade skill trainers or buy other gear. heck, you can stop on largely unpopulated islands with battlefields and burial mounds and ruined towers to add stuff like spyglass, dragon pendants and grimoires to your stash. best initial use o' money? at first opportunity, buy a junk and then reduce non merchant population o' deadfire waters to 0. wanna save money and cheese the system? save-scum 'fore checking shipwrecks and you will be able to get all the long gun cannons you need. HA! Good Fun! ps am agreeing with enoch regarding trainer usefulness. our gear selection frequent revolves 'round skill points as 'posed to combat efficacy. no matter how you work party assist, there is a few player only checks, and am not liking to have to wait for a level up, or two, or three, to reach threshold for skill checks. how many total points is avialable from trainers? is gotta be at least three or four leveling opportunities worth, yes? good money spent.
  2. Given that s/he was banning long time users for posting any complaints - even civil ones - I imagine most of us were of the opinion that pointing out the gaffe in the sig would have been a banning offense so we gritted our teeth and ignored it. But it DID bug me. in retrospect, it is kinda shocking we never got our self banned from interplay/black isle/obsidian boards. had more than one run-in with the developers over the years, not to mention a few moderators. *shrug* HA! Good Fun!
  3. much appreciated. thank you. HA! Good Fun!
  4. is so many things wrong 'bout this post, but the one thing which is setting off our ocd like extreme poison sumac exposure is the lord jim signature quote. "you don't tug on superman's cap." … honest, we never bothered paying attention to moderators or interplay/black isle off-topic, but superman's cap? how long was signature thus? nobody said nothing? makes our brain itch. HA! Good Fun!
  5. bump how 'bout some priest love, eh? HA! Good Fun!
  6. three pages? this thread generated three pages o' serious responses? ... however, so as to not be derailing, we will answer the genesis post query: yes, given the feedback you have already received, it would appear there is people who believe the watcher should become a god of eora... but there is also people who believe the world is flat and that the moon landings were faked. am s'posing the evil midnight bomber who bombs at midnight said it best when he opined, "And so he says to me, 'you wanna be a bad guy?' And I say, 'yeah, baby! I wanna be bad!' And I says, 'surf's up, space ponies! I'm making gravy without the lumps!' Aaaaahahahahahaha!" HA! Good Fun!
  7. self appointed pundits identifying and arguing "reality" o' weapon and armour strengths and weaknesses in a thread 'bout game balance amuses us. continue. HA! Good Fun!
  8. lanfear kerfuffle were almost the definition o' banal cliché. nobody is shocked when it is discovered the german girl has no sense of humor. sure, is utter predictable in retrospect, but disappointing even so. HA! Good Fun!
  9. I'm just impressed at how well they maintain character while still being able to discuss things at a relatively high level. I don't think the REAL Gromnir was quite that intelligent, given he was a Fighter and not a Mage... but we'll let it slide I'd have to check, but I believe dispositions increased the healing done and the burn damage dealt to vessels - same as it was in Pillars. backwards. is not a chicken and egg problem as there were an uncontested original when dave added his bhaalspawn to tob. this is the problem we got. am not certain if is working as intended. am at a loss regarding the point o' priestly favored dispositions if the mechanic is working as designed. HA! Good Fun! So you're saying that Gaider nerfed you for ToB? Were you some munchkinned out Kensai/Mage or what? really don't want this to be a Gromnir thread, but short answer is the character were a baldur's gate, d&d(ish,) cn human fighter with high wisdom who did not receive "mag. def. adj." bonus even though such bonuses were included in the game manual. boardies frequent assumed the character were a half-orc, and gaider saw the board personality as more lawful than chaotic. so dave makes tob game Gromnir a half-orc for funsies, and then makes the "insane" Gromnir the one character who saw through melissan's plan from the start. regardless, the posting Gromnir is the real and original and whatever intelligence displayed by the character has been obnoxiously consistent for 'bout two decades. HA! Good Fun!

  11. at release, and with 1.1, holy radiance is not modified by priestly dispositions. would the developers please clarify the current irrelevance of priestly favored/disfavored dispositions as working as intended or the result o' a bug. thank you. HA! Good Fun! ps apologies for the bump, and am realizing few folks actual play a main character priest or mc priest, but this is, at the very least, a curious quirk. why even have priestly dispositions if the priest's' efforts to be aligning favorably has no gameplay impact? is this another tooltip error? if it is an error, is a curious small one as with full disposition attunement, Gromnir is having difficulty seeing a holy radiance bonus to healing or vessel burn.
  12. will think 'pon your suggestion. no. as to holy radiance, am not certain if this is an oversight or not, but if is working as designed, is mighty peculiar to bother including priestly favored and verboten dispositions. HA! Good Fun!
  13. do dispositions affect priestly holy radiance with 1.1? dispositions had no effect 'pon holy radiance at release and am not certain such were intended. haven't had a chance to play 1.1, so am not certain the "bug" were addressed... or if the non relevance o' dispositions 'pon holy radiance is intended. does make one wonder what is the point priestly dispositions if they got no gameplay impact. HA! Good Fun!
  14. and thank goodness for the last minute change. with a turning wheel helwalker contemplative, Gromnir were casting pillars of holy fire which hit for 800 damage. can only imagine what woulda' been the result if might remained a multiplier as 'posed to additive. HA! Good Fun!
  15. should be an alternative option for giving the existing companions more development. would get our vote. HA! Good Fun!
  16. and once again, Gromnir is playing at the margins. our first run were completed as a priest of eothas/helwalker contemplative... a build which we purposefully avoided avoided swift flurry as we knew from the beta how broken a crit build with swift flurry could be. even so, our character were powerful and the contemplative starting skill array were ideal for us as we knew we wanted points in insight, diplomacy, metaphysics and to a lesser degree, religion and history. the helwalker mechanic added a layer o' complexity early in the game, which were a good thing. the contemplative we played were a well-rounded character who could heal big, do eye-popping damage with spells and weapons, and were thematic intriguing. were actual considering a shaman for a subsequent run, though am current doing a cantor. unrelated: rodrigo mendoza were first character name, but all subsequent names will be chosen from list o' the following: roberto clemente, honus wagner, willie stargell, arky vaughan, pie traynor, max carey, ralph kiner, lloyd waner, paul waner and fred clarke. the cantor is bill mazeroski as am saving roberto clemente for a special build once potd is tuned better. regardless, am mild curious 'bout telemetry. if am ambivalent 'bout a build choice, may look to telemetry to choose the road less traveled. do our part to try what others dismiss. HA! Good Fun! Whoa! Missing some real Pirates there... Hello, Andy Van Slyke! Plus don’t forget about all of those famous Buccaneers.... Ronde Barber, Simeon Rice, Warren Sapp, LeRoy Solomon. Or of course some Raiders from the Principi. Fred Blientikoff, Marcus Alllen or Kenny Stabler. But of course you forget that in Deadfire we are the El’Capitan of the ship. So you’re obvious name for your next skipper should be Jim Leyland. wagner, traynor and mazeroski were all managers. mazeroski and stargell were team captains. sadly, andy van slyke failed to get minimum votes to maintain consideration for the hall of fame-- doesn't make the cut. if we were to continue the sporting legend theme, we would consider leroy selmon, warren sapp and derrick brooks if we run out o' hall o' fame pirates. raiders who could be an option following our buccaneers list completion: jim otto, gene upshaw, ted hendricks, willie brown, george blanda, dave casper, tim brown and fred biletnikoff. stabler and marcus allen are non-options given their collegiate affiliations-- no alabama and no usc players, and would consider the possibility o' removing miami grads as well. 'course after we finish with pittsburgh pirates, am likely to return to mission characters given the arguable excessive deadfire focus 'pon colonialism as thematic fodder. *insert eye roll here* the mission also works particular well given our tendency to play priest characters... though am thinking ennio morricone will get a naming nod for a chanter if we do not make father gabriel a chanter. one o' the all-time oscar best score snubs HA! Good Fun! ps am realizing it is a good thing we play male characters. neither the pittsburgh pirates or the mission cast offer much in the way o' estrogen options.
  17. am always recommending a wait of six months post release to buy new games/software. more stable. sales priced. obvious as this is a crowd funded title, the calculus is a bit different, but reasoning is the same. games, at release, is buggy and for games with rule mechanics as complex as deadfire, they will be wacky unbalanced. wait. if you haven't played deadfire yet, and you are able to wait a little longer, we recommend waiting for the next patch, 'cause this patch is gonna break as much as it fixes. is not a condemnation or criticism o' obsidian to recommend patience. nowadays all games is broken at release and need be fixed. first post release patch is inevitable one which were already being worked on previous to release. second patch, such as 1.1, is gonna be full o' new fixes and will fail as much as it succeeds. third patch is where things begin to genuine improve. wait. just a suggestion. HA! Good Fun!
  18. deadfire has many import bugs and custom history bugs... to a somewhat inexplicable degree. import/history bugs ain't like the weird problem with sea trolls being immune to the fire damage from pillar of holy fire. regeneration nullifies fire damage? am understanding how, perhaps, some combination o' factors led to an unforeseen mechanics bug or two... or even a hundred. the import stuff is different 'cause is many import and custom history flags which is simple marked wrong. night market eder v. mayor eder were an obvious example o' all too frequent oversight. currently, our default custom history for a new character is entitled mirror universe. to get desired results from a history, our best option is to custom create a history, and all too often our choices must be star trek mirror universe choices. this kinda "bug," sadly, is due to lack o' diligence. no excuse. as for mechanics bugs, given how much more complex is deadfire than poe, particular with multiclassing and 20 leveling opportunities, am not shocked, dismayed or appalled by deadfire bugginess. yeah, is more than a few exploits which has been known since beta release 1 which is still unaddressed, but such stuff ain't bugs. also, is not exact a high bar standard, but compared to poe, deadfire is relative stable. there were a few game killing poe bugs such as the reckless assault stacking bug which took months too fix. were also loads o' minor poe quest bugs. deadfire is indeed buggy mechanically and also buggy insofar as quest resolutions is concerned, but aside from import/history issues (which were not a possible failing for poe) deadfire is relative stable. again, am not suggesting deadfire deserves awards for being a bugless release. contrary. deadfire is the kinda hot mess we expected it to be, which is exact why we kept pushing for a more expansive beta testing. nevertheless, relative to past obsidian releases and poe in particular, deadfire is average buggy at worst. deadfire is what we thought it would be. HA! Good Fun!
  19. Gromnir, I don't recognize the hood, necklace, or the left ring you have on your character. I don't recall seeing any enchanted hoods, and that necklace and left right are visually unique enough that I'd KNOW if I'd seen them, which I haven't (yet). (I'm nearing the end of the game, perhaps leaving Nekataka for the last time, if ya know what I mean.) as an aside, this character is a helwalker/priest of eothas and the rodrigo mendoza naming choice struck us as appropriate under the circumstances. HA! Good Fun!
  20. am not certain people know how broken blessed harvest is at the moment. is functional an insta kill on hit or graze. additional, have mentioned in other threads how we believe a few priest spells is being serious overlooked by the fans, but is admitted a small number o' great priest spells-- is more than a little dross in the already paltry priest talent catalog. personal, am finding xoti works well as an off-tank. make certain to take combat focus and sword and board. do not upgrade her gear for the self-defeating spell resistance. 'course we played as a contemplative first and a dps cantor second; party composition makes a big difference in how bestest to use companions. we wanted a main tank and an off-tank in most o' our party configurations, and pallegina and xoti did not play well together. worked well to have a xoti party (religious and/or fun-loving) and a pallegina party (irreligious and/or humorless) with eder being virtual our only companion constant at main tank. HA! Good Fun!
  21. the grimoire of disruption is the one we inevitably return to. we need thrust of tattered veils (how is it more people do not mention?) and we get much use outta arcane dampener, and expose vulnerabilities. also includes slicken, grimoire slam, necrotic lance, concussive missiles, minor reflection, call to slumber, form of the helpless beast, gaze of adragan, arcane reflection, chaotic orb, llengrath's warding staff, temporal cocoon, piercing sigil, arcane cleanse, and llengrath's reflection. underlined stuff we use so frequent as to be essential. that said, if we weren't simple using aloth or a geomancer maia, we would likely build a wizard character or multi 'round ninagauth's teachings, but the advantage to grimoire o' disruption is am recalling it is a ruined tower drop and if we wanted to guarantee early acquisition, we could immediate head to a ruined tower location following port maje and save-spam 'til we get the right grimoire... not that we would do such a thing... HA! Good Fun!
  22. frequent rotated our party for dialogues n' such. only constant were swashbuckler tank eder who ended with 45k damage on 338:886 crit/hit ratio with a highest single damage o' 125.7 and damage taken of 8206. aloth did 54k damage with 806:1745 ratio and a high single damage o' 349. xoti and the blue monkey were next highest but weren't in our endgame party... will look at 'em later if anybody is genuine curious. xoti had a high single target damage o' +500. xoti coulda' had a higher single target damage as blessed harvest is bugged op at the moment and we did not exploit. our main character were a hearth orlan priest o' eothas/helwalker. we used lightning strikes 'cause swift flurry were obvious exploitive from first beta release and we weren't gonna cheese our way through an initial run. for first 1/3 o' game, we were mostly a ranged caster with a scepter as our main weapon. didn't have the aloth scepter, so best weapon we had for much o' early game were an exceptional scepter we got via ship combat. after 1/3, we switched 'tween ranged and melee, using the spiritual weapon flail most often for melee. late game were almost entire melee for Gromnir with end total damage o' 107679 and a ratio o' 1127:2825. highest single target damage were a decimal smidge over 800 (those empowered pillars of flame hit hard, no? stopped using 'em or woulda been a higher single target damage. even the non empowered pillars would hit for ~700 by endgame) and damage taken were 11.5k, most o' which we suspect were mostly self-inflicted scepter modal damage. HA! Good Fun!
  23. as an aside, priest seal spells count as traps for the achievement. HA! Good Fun!
  24. My pet theory based on the above: In the first game it paid to be a jerk as it got you two permanent bonuses (gift from the machine and effigy’s resentment.) People who wanted those bonuses to carry over got what they wanted, as you get them when Eothas gives back part of your soul in Hasongo. However, some people complained that being good got you nothing—and the devs must have thought (rightfully) that getting back a portion of your soul without any in-game effect would have felt underwhelming and unrewarding. So here’s to catching two birds with one stone, and that’s the bonus you get from your soul if you were a good guy who didn’t absorb souls from the machine and sacrifice someone to Skaen. Woedica’s bonus is a must-have if it affects all party members. Otherwise, it’s a must just for caster Watchers. theory has a whole. having finished poe2, we did not receive gift of hope. we also did not sacrifice anybody to the machine in poe 1 and we did mostly good choices throughout poe1 and 2. am not certain what is the trigger for gift of hope, but am suspecting it is the result of poe2 interactions with eothas. HA! Good Fun!
