1) sending troops to portland helped? course not. predictable, it made worse, which is why they were removed. police is a way to deal with an existing problem. the problems are social and economic which has nothing whatsoever to do with troops. 2) dear lord. blame initial spread on china and who. then what? having an ocean separating put the US in a slight better position than most o' europe where covid had spread earlier. we had a smaller problem and trump's impotence made worse. we had time and trump golfed. talk 'bout rambling. edit: shouldn't be necessary, but am gonna point out how marginalizing poll relevance 'cause 2016 is just so stoopid. in the decades o' polling, there has been a number o' years and races where the polls got it wrong. small number. the reasonable thing to do is to ignore the overwhelming trend o' accuracy and instead focus on one o' the exceptions to decide whether to put faith in future polls. wait. no. that makes no sense, does it. we tend to look for reasons why exceptions were different, but see the few exceptions as proof o' the fail o' the whole is nutty, particular as 2018 were so freaking accurate. and muslim ban. rambling? *chuckle* is forcing folks to recall trump's promise. explain and we promise not to respond 'cause whatever you say in defense o' the muslim ban will be far more damning than anything we could write. congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. and yeah, just as does due process and other fundamental rights, those liberties codified in the First Amendment apply to refugees, those seeking asylum and prospective immigrants. unfreakingamerican, and you voted for the guy. am not trying to convince you. in our job, we spent years empathizing with clients and juries. we don't need to do so on a freaking internet message board. is quite liberating. 1) the rioting is happening under trump. weird how trump folks blamed obama for ferguson and baltimore but instead blame mayors for portland. 2) willfully ignore every trump excess and shortcoming do not help your cause. covid-19 won't go away just 'cause you squint eyes, shake head and whistle with all your might to drown out tragedy. 3) keep ignoring 2018? say is different doesn't make it so. is differen't cause is more voter suppression this time? perhaps you suggest is different because trump is campaigning for himself he has less time to mess thing up for collins? might be a legit angle there, but not poll relevant, even with the qanon talking points. 4) muslim ban. you don't get to claim conscience and then ignore the muslim ban promise. am suspecting you know this, which is why your tone has changed. 5) muslim ban 6) muslim ban 7) muslim ban ... ok. where to start unpacking the hypocrisy... if chaos is a legit concern, there is no way you voted trump instead o' hillary. calling shenanigans. hillary was, for better or worse, establishment. she were the devil you know as 'posed to the one you woulda' known if you bothered to look a bit closer. hillary woulda' brought more bill clinton era nonsense, which we personal abhor, but is difficult to describe as chaotic. afeared o' chaos? have you not been paying attention to the last four years? trump did an end-around on Congress to fund a pointless border wall (the vast majority o' illegals is visa overstays, and the illegals who do come across the border overwhelming do so at points of entry... not to mention illegal immigration had been steadily decreasing for decades... until trump brought chaos to south america that is) with pentagon discretionary money meant for rebuilding crumbling levees and hurricane damaged military base housing and schools... and that were after he impotent shut down the government costing the country many billions o' dollars. the obstruction o' justice examples we could provide is now beyond counting, but am gonna once again single out how trump attempted to block the submission o' an IG report demanded by law. wtf? more recent he has sent fed troops to states w/o their approval and arrested protesters w/o charges or even probable cause. oh, and speaking o' chaos... social distanced and all wearing masks where unable to social distance, yes? @HoonDing gots you pegged. trump, in addition to the brazen hatch act violation, had a crowd o' folks not social distanced cheering his mendacity on the wh lawn. guy who suggested looking into bleach injection and internal illumination o' the human body to purge covid-19 infections advocated hydroxy w/o any real science to back him up, causing a shortage (chaos) for those patients who depend on the medication... patients particular vulnerable to diseases such as covid-19 btw. the President has public ridiculed and undercut the scientists on his own covid-19 task force, leading to confusion/chaos and he pretty much took a hands off approach to the virus after his early bs google website lies and the kushner led supply chain initiative imploded, leaving states to compete with each other for ppe and limited supplies... supplies which were more likely to come if a governor agreed to the wh demands that they public compliment the President. etc. not enough? we can go back to all the iran, north korea and china stories from the past near four years and examine how many times trump did a 180, or caught his own advisors complete off guard. our allies laugh at trump at parties while simultaneous express concern 'bout how unhinged he is. chaos. oh and am sympathizing with your mistake in believing trump were less skeevy than clinton... if you didn't bother to read stories or watch news or read the depositions where trump lied and lied and lied... but yeah, hillary were corrupt and near as big a liar as trump... but that were four years ago, yes? bring up hillary corruptness now is a transparent effort to convince yourself and not Gromnir. you gotta deal with the fact you voted for the pu$$y grab candidate who attacked gold star families, mocked the disabled, cheated on his wives, stole from charities, lied in depositions, defrauded trump U students and, God help us, promised a Muslim Ban. you voted for a candidate for President who advocated a Muslim Ban? muslim ban. two words which shoulda' prevented any American from voting for trump, particularly if they is persons o' conscience. muslim ban. you were tested. hillary were a terrible alternative, and so you were given a choice 'tween an agent o' chaos who told you what you wanted to hear, or a corrupt but predictable beltway insider. you invited chaos. you embraced chaos and you got no excuse 'cause you voted for the guy who promised a muslim ban. if muslim ban were not a red line for you, then we have no possibility for common ground. am genuine embarrassed that Americans elected trump. weren't the thousands o' lies. weren't the soullessness. weren't the ignorance o' the office o' the Presidency. we woulda' grumbled if trump were elected and he were nothing but a two-bit huckster who managed to con just enough gullible americans to not vote for hillary, but we wouldn't have been angry. muslim ban. shame. shame on us. shame on The US. you are worried 'bout the retribution the democrats may bring given all the perfidy trump has exacted 'pon this nation for near four years? after muslim ban, a part o' us believes we deserve whatever chaos follows. oh, and clarification: we criticized med dan for ignoring 2018 polls. keep pointing to Presidential 2016 while ignoring we were talking senate seats is suspect, particular as there were the 2018 national elections which took place after trump's election. conspiracy theory away on what you believe is the qanon purposes o' polls, but like it or not, they were accurate in 2018. same polls says senate republicans lose 3-4, with more too close to call. please recall, even senate split won't help trump 'cause we now know where romney stands.... romney, they guy whose character you impugned not so long ago. trump's reelection hinges on william barr. whatever bs scandal barr is cooking up, it needs be overwhelming. oh, and muslim ban. you do not get to avoid muslim ban. HA! Good Fun! ps side note on chaos, trump's muslim ban were so inept (chaotic) implemented that it were rejected multiple times by the Courts. what medicine dan ended up with is a ban which also prevents christian refugees fleeing religious persecution in many parts o' the world. -

White House Building ‘Dossier’ On Journalist Reporting On Trump Private Businesses trump ain't a big fan of mr. fahrenthold. excerpt: As it rose again, the Trump Foundation continued to be used to benefit its namesake. The best illustration of that was the charity to which the foundation gave its two largest gifts of the 1990s. The Trump Foundation gave $50,000 in 1995, and another $50,000 in 1999, to a nonprofit called the National Museum of Catholic Art and History. Those gifts, not previously reported, seemed like an odd choice for big charitable dollars. The museum was housed for much of the 1990s in a former headquarters for “Fat Tony” Salerno of the Genovese crime family in East Harlem. It had few visitors and little art. A Village Voice reporter, visiting in 2001, said the collection included a photo of the pope, some nun dolls bought from the Home Shopping Network, and — just off the dining room — “a black Jacuzzi decorated with simmering candles, gold-plated soap dishes, and kitsch angel figurines.” Trump is not Catholic. But he and the museum had a mutual friend. Ed Malloy, who was then the chairman of the museum’s board, was the head of the powerful labor group, the Building and Construction Trades Council. News reports from the time indicate that he was a business ally of Trump’s: Union members worked on Trump buildings, and Malloy helped Trump line up vital financing from a union pension fund. “Contributing to this museum — you know, it only made sense in the context of relationships,” said Wayne Barrett, the Village Voice reporter, in a recent interview. The Trump campaign did not respond to requests for comment about these donations. Malloy died in 2012. The Catholic museum shut down in 2010. “I cannot give you a comment. I don’t want to be quoted on anything,” said Christina Cox, the museum’s former director, when The Post reached her by phone. At times, Trump seemed to make light of others’ expectations about his generosity. In 1997, for instance, he was “principal for a day” at a public school in an impoverished area of the Bronx. The chess team was holding a bake sale, Hot & Crusty danishes and croissants. They were $5,000 short of what they needed to travel to a tournament. Trump had brought something to wow them. “He handed them a fake million-dollar bill,” said David MacEnulty, a teacher and the chess team’s coach. The team’s parent volunteers were thrilled. Then disappointment. Trump then gave them $200 in real money and drove away in a limousine. Why just $200? “I have no idea,” MacEnulty said. “He was about the most clueless person I’ve ever seen in that regard.” The happy ending, he said, was that a woman read about Trump’s gift in the New York Times, called the school and donated the $5,000. “I am ashamed to be the same species as this man,” MacEnulty recalled her saying. end excerpt Room rentals, resort fees and furniture removal: How Trump’s company charged the U.S. government more than $900,000 ... of course am disgusted by the white supremacists who support the President. that said, every national public figure will attract followers who is more worthy o' contempt than admiration... though trump has done less to distance himself from such folks than good conscience would demand. however, am most disappointed in the genuine devout christians who advocate for trump in spite o' what is known 'bout him. you folks are aware trump is a petty, faithless (at least to his wives if not God) mendacious and selfish man who possess almost no qualities you would describe as christian. nevertheless, he is your Chosen One candidate. purely a mercenary relationship? a deal with the proverbial devil? we will say, "good day to you sir." HA! Good Fun! -
y'know, precise 'cause o' your observation, is our opinion the best thing to happen to trek in a long time has been netflix and similar streaming services. voyager had good and even excellent episodes, but we cannot watch a season o' voyager. enterprise also had a few fantastic episodes, but we can't pick a good season much less a watchable one. tos, tng and ds9 all have patches o' episodes which is tough slogs. netflix makes so we may à la carte our trek menu. ... discovery and picard is a bit problematic for us 'cause they is less episodic, not available on netflix and, well, bad. so am gonna suggest netflix (and the like) has made trek more watchable today than ever and is the best thing to happen for Gromnir's trek viewing in a long time. HA! Good Fun! ps we got a whole lotta criticisms o' netflix, but it has been a boon for our trek viewing.

obama's failure to respond 'til things were well and complete out of hand, particular to the ferguson situation, garnered him considerable criticism from mainstream media. part o' the problem is, and am suspecting it will take another hundred or so attempts to drive the point home, but the President and the federal government have extreme limited authority to deal with matters related to state and local law enforcement. the Constitution explicit reserves police power to the states and sheriffs departments, in particular, are near complete autonomous and insulated from any sorta federal interference. you wanna fix what happened in kenosha? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_law_enforcement_agencies_in_Wisconsin this is one issue where people crying out for a national solution is complete and utter misguided. is literal not possible to fix nationally. should be focusing local as 'posed to national. but yeah, obama coulda' been a voice o' reason and leadership but he didn't wanna alienate anybody by choosing a side. ... the following ain't directed at hurl as we know he ain't engaging in whataboutism, but others are. say what you will 'bout obama shortcomings insofar as ferguson or baltimore or wherever. lord know Gromnir ain't condoning or absolving obama. the thing is, compare trump and obama and see as similar is just so transparent flawed. obama didn't respond to protests by sending in masked federal stormtroopers in complete violation o' the Constitution where those militarized troops routine violated the civil rights o' protesters, whisking people away in unmarked vans and detained, w/o charges or lawyers for unspecific 'mounts o' time... all in an effort to make trump appear tough on crime for his base. is not a matter o' degree or a spectrum when compare trump and obama. obama failed to lead. trump, on the other hand, directed by means unconstitutional, immoral and unfreakingamerican the trampling o' civil rights and constitutional protections o' US citizens and he did it for no reason than to solidify his base. a couple times, but yeah, am recognizing Americans is less concerned 'bout character than they is a good commercial spot... which is ok seeing as how well the lincoln project and republicans for the rule of law has been doing on that front recent. weird how the best biden commercials is from conservatives. that is the point: trump is selling/lying as 'posed to doing anything. and singular anecdotal evidence about journalists don't help you at all. most professions require constant education. an IT guy who were educated in the 90s would be complete useless today but for upgrading o' skills and knowledge. same goes for many/most other professions. trump is lying about the problems (which ain't immigrants flooding in from southern border for chrissakes) and the solutions. worse, he hadn't actual improved quality of life for his base even before covid-19 while his bungling o' that test has hurt his constituency more than those elitists with their fancy educations. is salesmanship and lying as 'posed to doing, and yet, the faithful are loyal to trump. double-post, but is separate and is worth mentioning how 'cause trump is such an impotent deal maker he recent used executive orders to pilfer more than $40 billion dollars from FEMA and he did so during (edit: not before) hurricane season. back in april Gromnir mused on these boards how a covid pandemic simultaneous with hurricane season would require creative anticipatory planning. just another another case o' trump ignoring a predictable future problem to satisfy an immediate political goal. and that is perhaps biggest lie trump is successful selling to his base. automation is only gonna increase, and why on earth would you wanna stop it save more medicine dan style apocalypse nightmares... except instead o' demonic democrats is skynet you need fear? we got a service based economy and is no way to slow automation or compete with cheap foreign labor. pretend as if trump can reverse progress is idiotic, but the alternatives is hard. explain to all the poor rust belt folks that they need get retrained in industries and jobs 'cause o' inevitable economic progress which natural benefits people with college educations is not an ez sell. is honest, but is not ez. is just so weird. the folks who has benefited most from trump's idiotic spending spree and ackjass tax cut is the wealthy. the people least hurt by the pandemic is college educated and wealthy. farmers is hurting worse now than when farm aid began back in 85. factory jobs has only come back in small instances, but the generalized trends continue and the disposable income o' poor and middle class has not increased under trump. who gets smacked in the teeth hardest if trump successful repeals obamacare w/o a replacement, a replacement impossible w/o Congress btw? poor and lower middle class. never has a self described populist (a populist who failed to win the popular vote and has not even reached 50% approval rating o' any composite poll since second quarter of his first year in office) done so little for his base and maintained such loyalty. fact trump did so little with Both houses o' Congress maintaining republican majorities for the first two years is genuine surprising. deal maker extraordinaire? *chuckle* is so Not american how things is playing out. americans typical hold Presidents accountable even if the President is largely blameless for woes. is any number o' european parliamentary style elections where ideology is more important than results, but that ain't what happens in the US, at least not for more than a century. as for skarp_one, you are talking nonsense... as usual. a coup is by definition an illegal seizure o' government control. if the Constitutional process for removal o' the President is followed, (impeachment by house and conviction by senate) then is not illegal regardless o' your imagined international boogeyman... whatever is the relevance o' such in the present context only skarp_one may guess. HA! Good Fun! ps @MedicineDan may wanna consider that the polls he derides were kinda spot on during the last national election... in 2018. even if you somehow believe the polls has failed to appropriate adjust even post 2016 to the curious realities o' an electoral college which made sub 1% margins o' victory in three states enough give trump a Presidential win, such ain't factors in Congressional races, and the pollsters were pretty darn accurate last time we had Congressional elections. much can change 'tween now and november. for example, am expecting a bs william barr october surprise, but such stuff ain't quantifiable in any current poll. medicine dan should be more concerned 'bout senate, but am kinda relieved he and the other members o' the trump congregation (your apocalypse talk is more in line with a fire and brimstone church sermon so don't blame us for drawing the parallel) is distracted. keep your focus on getting trump elected while overlooking the more important vulnerable senate seats where an electoral college victory ain't possible. -

you would have a point save for fact you are making the most obvious of mistakes. pointing to Presidents is wrong as they rare have the economic impact one suggests, and when they do, they inevitable is blamed for another President's errors and given credit for actions o' Presidents no longer in office. no one person were responsible for the recent great recession, but if you wanted to blame a President, the guy most at fault would be clinton and his championing o' bank deregulation. bush's biggest economic failure were not costly foreign wars but his inability to reign in out-of-control lending. bush actual tried to do so but Congress overrode one o' his vetoes and that were the end o' his efforts to save us all from clinton and Congress' idiocy. trump is kinda unique as he were complete irresponsible and were selling out america's future to produce short term gains... gains mostly for the wealthy. trump indulged in democrat style spending w/o any effort to reinvest in American infrastructure or even social programs. his promised 4% growth which woulda' been needed consistent to make his tax cut anything other than foolhardy, predictable never happened. the tax cut did benefit small business owners in a big way, so kudos for that, but otherwise... a predictable trainwreck. have used analogy previous, but trump's economy is like the dumbest twenty-something who maxes out credit cards but thinks is all ok 'cause he can always get a new credit card to pay the debt o' the old. oh, and the only reason we weren't feeling the stoopid from obama's ill advised stimulus and questionable bank/automaker bailouts before the pandemic hit is 'cause o' the aforementioned ultrastoopid by trump. trump is hiding not only the costs o' his debt but obama's as well. is a whole lotta Presidential blame to go around, but is typical exaggerated and is almost always off-target. and somehow "sleepy joe," who if one believes the trump narrative from the last couple years, has never accomplished anything o' note in 47 years o' politics, is the antichrist and harbinger o' the apocalypse? that said, you reap what you sow. republicans is focusing on the wrong freaking battles. trump is not gonna help susan collins or other embattled republicans in the senate get reelected. if the senate turns blue, am much concerned the democrats will not be in a forgiving mood. even if trump wins but the republicans lose the senate, donald will be President for all of about two weeks in january before he gets impeached and then soon after convicted by the new senate. the thing is, republicans, to a much lesser degree, were victims o' democrat excesses during the previous administration. however, is not as if when republicans gained power they took the opportunity to reflect and embrace the chance for bipartisanship. instead o' each party trying to punish each other, we need a reset. as 'tween biden and trump, who offers a better chance for a chief executive who will attempt to correct the mistakes o' the last two administrations? all o' which doesn't matter. we voted mccain instead of obama and kerry instead o' bush. bob dole was and is a better man than bill clinton, so he got our vote. when it comes to the Presidency, in our mind the most important quality is character. perhaps you think we got one or two past Presidential choices wrong. fair enough. reasonable minds may differ and am admitting the choice 'tween hillary and donald were indeed a devil's bargain. even so, try and convince us trump is a better human being than bidden. dare you. given our focus on character, the 2020 Presidential election is the easiest choice ever. am suspecting part o' the reason trump did what no other President in living memory would stoop to do as part o' a campaign event is to create an obvious bullseye for 'angry libs' to attack. haters gonna hate trump no matter what, right? even when he does something harmless or laudable such as the pardon, far left nancy boys are still gonna find some reason to attack trump. go ahead and complain about trump tweets or his excessive golf or hydroxychloroquine, 'cause when you do so, 'gainst all reason, it proves to the trump base you are the problem. trump's base wants you to complain, 'cause in their weird world, your complaint validates their defense o' trump. instead o' defending trump covid-19 measures, which stretches all reason to the breaking point, the trump base may take a stand on such relative inconsequential issues as televised pardons at the wh and hatch act violations. hundreds of thousands o' covid-19 deaths and all the excesses o' executive authority is becomes nothing more than additional angry lib talking points. trump wants to distract both you and his base. keep your eye on the ball. In its telling, the Rothschilds—a famous Jewish banking family from Germany—created a plot to terrorize non-Jewish “goyim,” with purported details of their scheme that included plans to “make the goyim destroy each other” and “rob the goyim of their landed properties.'" ... "Mendoza’s tweet urging her followers to check out the anti-Semitic thread came on the eve of her Republican convention appearance. While the thread includes extensive anti-Semitism and references to QAnon, it also alleges that Hillary Clinton is a “Satanic High Priestess” and that Barack Obama’s Washington home smells like sulfur — a reference to the idea, popular with InfoWars host Alex Jones, that Obama somehow smells like sulfur because he’s connected to the devil and Hell." but she ain't the only gibbering lunartick to get rnc speaking time. "Public school teacher Rebecca Friedrichs, who spoke at the convention on Monday, has claimed that public schools use their curricula to “groom” children for sexual predators like Jeffrey Epstein. On Tuesday, Vice reported that anti-abortion activist and convention speaker Abby Johnson praised the idea of police racially profiling her biracial son as “smart.” "“Statistically, my brown son is more likely to commit a violent offense over my white sons,” Johnson said in a video." the party of lincoln? perhaps 2020 republicans is trying to channel the 2012 movie lincoln instead o' the POTUS. need a lincoln to save us from the existential threats only the qanon folks are willing to admit exists? the topic were silly from the get go, so am not feeling guilty 'bout going all hic sunt dracones. had a low opinion o' the US educational system right up until we taught university classes in spain and uk. a little real world perspective went a long way towards dispelling our preconceptions. were not so much our opinion o' US education improved once we taught and studied in europe, but we did realize the gap we imagined 'tween US and the world were based on a$$hat academics at US universities convincing us o' a "fact" which were in reality little more than a shared gross assumption. HA! Good Fun!

Politics - wait for it... wait for it... 2020 isn't over yet

so far the biggest fail o' the rnc has been trump. oh sure, we expected gaslighting and conspiracy theories and weird genuflection 'fore the altar o' trumpism, but we were actual a bit surprised by the attempt to make trump a figure o' empathy with numerous stories/fables o' his compassion... which trump managed to complete undermine multiple times by speaking other than from a script. Trump praises Erdoğan during convention segment with freed hostages ... we couldn't invent that kinda batcrap crazy and yet we saw it happen. even worse is fact the segment were pre recorded. you know every news outlet other than state media is gonna go rabid over that bit... not to mention amnesty international and pretty much every human rights organization on the planet. given how lindsey graham feels 'bout erdogan and trump's betrayal o' the kurds, we would enjoy hearing the senator's explanation o' trump defending erdogan to a hostage. ... another tone deaf moment were the custodian exchange. trump didn't seem to know what a custodian job entailed 'cause he had to ask the post office custodian what is the job o' a custodian. "that profession will never be out of business," were the President's response? ... the gaslighting, alternative facts, conspiracy theories and snake oil salesmanship is gonna continue, but am suspecting nobody has the guts to minimize the single biggest problem for the republicans at the rnc: trump. oh and just for fun, our personal low effort award o' the week goes to the rnc... and is only monday. am aware there won't be a way to top this: is some stiff competition for the award, but adopting the 2016 platform w/o any changes whatsoever woulda' been epic akcja$$ lazy and stoopid even if it didn't result in the kinda comic self immolation we see from the linked tweet. HA! Good Fun!
