  1. window couldn't be more wrong, particular as is gd hurling the grenade. reason we got statutory minimums and crap such as three-strikes is 'cause The People took the decision making process away from the justice system. non-violent drug offenders serving long prison terms is amongst the dooms prophesied by cassandra when The People clamored for real justice and derided the system for being too lenient on repeat offenders and drug pushers. oh, and am not gonna need remind gd how as a dyed-in-wool libertarian, fact utah continues to criminalize marijuana sales and recreational use is their choice and fed or people in ca, tn or washington dc got no legal right to interfere with their choices. foster mom were facing life. the foreign national from romania, with his 341 pounds o' marijuana, faces 40 years in large part 'cause is an international smuggling issue as well as drugs. the American woman who were arrested with mr. goran is facing up to five years for the intent to distribute. one problem with using memes to make a point is that all too often they is a poor contruced grenade which blows up in the hands o' the user. HA! Good Fun!
  2. reading fail. "faces" v. "gets." foster mom were facing life in prison. she got 1 year after pleading guilty. that said, so light a sentence for a first degree felony is curious, regardless o' first time offense and the guilty plea. haven't read details o' the story to know what were extenuating circumstances, if any. mental illness is a common mitigating factor in such cases where sentence is extreme low. mental ill for purposes o' insanity plea is an extreme difficult standard. more than one mental ill person has inappropriate done serious time 'cause a d!ckless judge wanted to look tough before reelection. mental ill such that a person is incapable o' forming criminal intent is much different than a finding mental illness were a significant contributing factor in a tragedy. but again, am not suggesting the woman were mental ill as we have no details other than curious brief period o' incarceration. if she were mental ill and were nevertheless a foster mother, it would also explain why the state were willing to give her such a small sentence as part o' a guilty plea. State likes to avoid trials in such cases. nevertheless, am complete pulling stuff outta thin air on this one as we got absolute zero to base any conclusion as to the why o' the paltry sentence. on the negative side, is too many crimes with mandatory sentencing minimums. judges frequent have zero latitude to reduce a sentence. all it takes is a few stories like the foster mom to have the public get angry 'bout a judge giving sentences which is too light, and then The People vote for statutory minimum sentences to prevent such happening in the future. what is wrong with the justice system is what is wrong with government: o'toole's corollary o' finagle's law. ... well, and the occasional reading fail. HA! Good Fun!
  3. 260 kids and teens infected with COVID-19 at Georgia sleepaway camp @Hurlshot no doubt hurl is following such news close. am genuine curious regarding what his impression is o' teacher concerns in hurl's neck o' the woods. are teachers worried? is a small % concerned or is apprehension more widespread? does your school/district have a plan for preventing spread and what is protocols if an outbreak occurs? testing and contact tracing is already pushed to/past meaningful limits in many parts of CA; is your school district having the capacity to test, trace and quarantine? is your district considering a total shutdown if X number of kids and staff is infected, or is your school district adopting a more fluid plan? is teachers past a certain age or with comorbidities being asked to teach their classes same as usual? if a teacher has a spouse or child with a comorbidity, does the teacher have options other than quitting job if they don't wanna expose loved ones? etc. from an outsider's pov, many public school districts look like they is approaching a covid-19 school year with less planning than even mlb. am hopeful such is less true than appears and that at the very least hurl's school district has taken intelligent and serious precautions. ... is too late for hurl to take a sabbatical? am guessing such ain't really a thing for public school teachers. might wanna take one anyways. ty in advance for any insights you might wish to share, and good luck.
  4. just another autocrat trump move? fact trump can't legal achieve what he wants with an executive order is hardly even worth mentioning. if trump does it, and senate won't stop him... as hurl observes, 86% o' republicans are nevertheless committed to voting for trump, no matter what. at this point trump is just throwing random stuff at the wall to see what sticks. he cannot hurt his campaign, 'cause after years o' trump being trump, the bar is so low we can no longer find it. the thing is, maybe he finds an issue which resonates with suburban women or midwest independents. am suspecting we are gonna see this nonsense repeated weakly/weekly for the next three months. @BruceVC whatever security issues the platform presents ain't new. what changed is... utter transparent. HA! Good Fun!
  5. first, blood/dna is not how Gromnir's "kin" recognize familial bonds. shared experience and traditions is what counts, and lord knows vol's experiences is clear foreign to ours. second, you do realize it is mildly offensive to suggest all indigenous people o' the Americas is somehow related, yes? is +570 recognized tribes in the US register, and those recognized tribes, as we has mentioned more than once, is not representing a comprehensive list. is many indigenous people who have never been having their "kin" acknowledged by the Fed and State governments o' the US. probable in the ballpark o' mid-700s unique and distinct cultures. we were gonna leave as vol being vol. is not worth correcting vol even though we has indulged the pointless labor with sysphisian resolve more than once. am suspecting bruce is kinda/sorta joking, but isn't as humorous as you might suspect. HA! Good Fun!
  6. HA! Good Fun!
  7. whenever they do a US focused video, they insist on trying out their American accents. ... might wanna rethink that choice. if am thinking to self while listening that gerard butler does a better American accent, you did something distractingly wrong. HA! Good Fun!
  8. am tending to agree. am thinking obama were as much taking an opportunity to vindicate his own administration as he were honoring the life of john lewis. obama's history is bad, or selective, and his own attacks on the filibuster has looked less and less wise the further we get from him leaving office. filibuster is Not a relic o' jim crow as it had been around considerable before such time as jim crow laws. did southern democrats use filibuster to make efforts to end jim crow more difficult? yes, but we keep telling folks how whenever you wanna change rules, you better look at such a move as a weapon pointed at something or someone you love. any number o' incompetent judges and suspect trump cabinet positions woulda' been avoided but for obama and harry reid's mistaken filibuster elimination for appointments. kavanaugh wouldn't be a scotus Justice as such was only possible as retaliation for obama era filibuster killing. oh, and one thing which should give all progressive democrats pause: trump agrees with obama regarding filibuster. HA! Good Fun! ps the filibuster stuff were literal one sentence in a long eulogy. can argue wrong place and time to advocate specifics o' a voting rights bill, but am ok with such. only real issue we had were with filibuster as it is something for which obama were criticized and it stuck out noteworthy in an otherwise admirable eulogy. unnecessary. wrong.
  9. arrested is not prison. the rest o' your post is nonsense, as usual. those who are in the country illegal are arrested frequently, just like your traffic ticket situation. no special treatment for illegals. edit: is possible vol isn't the only person confused. sure, his rant 'bout murdering cops is complete irrelevant, but no doubt more than one person wonders why illegal entry into the US is civil/petty and not criminal for purposes o' potential prison. amendment vi in all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense. sixth amendment applies to non citizens. as backed up is the immigration courts, with waits o' sometimes years in a few jurisdictions, imagine the charlie fox scenario if you need give everybody a jury trial and legal representation. if you believe the illegals is gaming the system, you couldn't be more wrong. The Thousands of Children Who Go to Immigration Court Alone not just kids. 'cause is not criminal trial with criminal trial protections, those seeking asylum is not granted real protections and is often given what amounts to a sham trial. HA! Good Fun! ps the last Two presidential administrations has been abominable and arguable inhumane when dealing with the immigration crisis. the trump admin has been orders o' magnitude worse than obama, but the previous President would not be comfortable talking 'bout his immigration record. the obama doj, just one example, argued it were appropriate to use solitary confinement to punish mothers who went on a hunger strike in response to mistreatment o' themselves and their children while being detained on immigration issues. obama's doj argued the moms were inciting disobedience and as were civil, they didn't have criminal rights, so...
  10. 'cause entering the country illegal is a civil offense and not criminal. we don't send people to prison, citizens or otherwise, for civil offenses. HA! Good Fun!
  11. fixed. HA! Good Fun!
  12. fyi, 3 u.s. code § 2: “whenever any State has held an election for the purpose of choosing electors, and has failed to make a choice on the day prescribed by law, the electors may be appointed on a subsequent day in such a manner as the legislature of such State may direct.” all trump needs do is convince a few red states to go along with his mail-in ballot conspiracy nonsense. sure, is no more honest than claims that some identifiable and noteworthy aspect o' the protesters in portland is genuine attempting to bring 'bout the downfall of the United States of America, but reality not matter if you get the right partisan folks to play along with the charade. vol is being vol. complain 'bout the election is not anything remote similar to genuine obstruction o' the results. say, "i got skrewed," is not what people are worried 'bout. sure, is petty and we expect such from folks such as trump and clinton, but actual interference with the election itself and peaceful transfer o' power after such an election is the fear. sidenote Full D.C. Appeals Court Agrees To Take Up Michael Flynn Legal Case not good news for flynn. HA! Good Fun!
  13. Despite Supreme Court's Ruling On DACA, Trump Administration Rejects New Applicants DACA recipients and their families were elated when the Supreme Court ruled that the Trump administration didn't go about ending the popular program correctly. Many immigration lawyers thought that meant the program would have to be restarted to allow new applications. But that hasn't happened. And critics accuse the Trump administration of ignoring the high court's ruling. "That's insane. That's a violation of the order," said Bill Ong Hing, professor of law and Director of the Immigration and Deportation Defense Clinic at the University of San Francisco. It's been nearly a month since the Supreme Court's ruling. So technically, Hing says, that order should be in full effect and DACA should be operating exactly the way it was before the administration moved to end it. "Legally, there's no basis to reject any new applications," Hing said. "I'm very upset and disturbed that this is an example of politics reigning over law." with +150k Americans dead from covid-19 and the administration's failure to act responsibly to limit the spread o' the virus being increasing apparent to the older voters trump were counting 'pon in november, almost every other news story will pale in comparison. flashbangs in portland and chicago. census flashbangs. demon sperm doctor falshbangs. nothing is genuine gonna distract from the story 'bout which trump is most concerned, 'cause every other american is likewise fixated on covid-19, even if some o' such folks is focused on the hoax angles. even so, this kinda thing, under any other administration, would be page 1. a legit Constitutional crisis is not same old, same old. also, please note the date o' the story we linked. HA! Good Fun!
  14. +3.5 years and people still aren't paying attention. the list o' things trump can't do that he has done or tried to do grows almost daily. started with the muslim ban and most recent we got him trying to alter how census is counted. if senate refuses to stop trump, he may do just 'bout anything. if trump wants a delay o' election, he can get what he wants by refusing to let fed apparatus take and count votes. sure, there Court will overturn, but there will be a delay as Court does what it does in its own glacial manner, and even then, trump may simple ignore the Court and at such a juncture the only remedy is senate conviction after a house impeachment, and we have been down that road. lack o' presidential authority is meaningless if senate won't stop him. HA! Good Fun! ps trump is current refusing to enforce the recent daca decision. why on earth is this not front page news? the Constitutional crisis stuff people were wailing 'bout during impeachment is happening as we speak. is just another story on page 8.
  15. Trump suggests delaying election, warns mail-in ballots to result in ‘INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT’ vote might be time for some folks to be more concerned with the possibility o' trump refusing to accept the integrity o' the november election. HA! Good Fun!
  16. the true amazing part is the 'bove is not complete accurate. for years, another site were the hypothesized origin o' the largest sacens. there is an ancient quarry approx 7 miles closer to the stonehenge site which archeologists surmised coulda' produced the stone. similar color stone were available at a more geographic proximate quarry in use at time o' stonehenge construction. instead, the ancient builders chose different and further. chemical analysis confirms the origin o' stonehenge sarsens is from a quarry more distant than necessary. also, as noted in the article, the smaller bluestone rock came from wales, ~150 miles away from stonehenge. the bluestone were 2-ton hunks o' rock. am not having any idea what were the protocols for the stonehenge builders when choosing their construction materials, but they clear were not over concerned with convenience. HA! Good Fun!
  17. side note: king henry v o' england had one one o' those overcompensation moments and he built a ship which were more than twice as large as the santa maria. made a single voyage, or two, before the crew mutinied. should be ez to search for it, but am forgetting name... something like Thanks be to God, but in latinish. regardless, we are getting into quibble range. 2x size o' santa maria were not only possible but such were constructed in early 1400s england. 3x or 4x strikes us as more than simple plausible, but perhaps not the the most judicious use o' funds when it would be considerable cheaper to build many smaller and more nimble ships which could make multiple journeys simultaneous. is less a question of possible as is a question o' practical, but as henry v and countless others have shown us in the past, build a bigger/biggest ship need not make sense for kings and madmen to embrace. still, the rudder and daggerboard issues we mentioned is requiring the input o' folks with ancient engineering expertise, which we clear do not have. you got no idea how heavy those pieces o' equipment is gonna be on a ship ~400 feet long along with lord only knows how many thousands o' tons o' displacement. HA! Good Fun!
  18. an ocean going flat bottom boat requires an enormous rudder and likely additional daggerboards. am suspecting a ship o' the size depicted would need involve rather complicated engineering to make such measures functional. am not saying the chinese didn't solve such issues, but replicating would be difficult. the chinese junks, for instance, did have what amounts to a kinda simple power-steering for their rudder control, but the scale o' that ship makes such measures impractical w/o serious and as yet unspecified innovation. perhaps/probable the image is an exaggeration, and am not a fan o' the rigging and maintenance issues which come with a batten junk rig, but certainly more modest (but nevertheless enormous) chinese junks were ocean capable long before europeans were making similar blue water voyages. HA! Good Fun!
  19. am disappointed the mlb isn't pausing to reflect on the marlins situation and perhaps implement protocols which will prevent a repeat. in another thread we joked 'bout the fork in the electrical outlet mentality, but what is baffling is how after getting shocked, the mlb has picked up their carbon scored flatware and is clear eyeing other electrical outlets. am not a psychobabel guy, but almost makes one believe in the whole deathwish gobbledygook. why wouldn't the mlb take situation more serious given what happened with the marlins? HA! Good Fun!
  20. noteworthy the author is french and does not believe france should reciprocate with similar international participation in its national elections... at least not until france gains similar world prominence as the US. *insert eye roll* next time you go to france, strike up a conversation with a random french person 'bout their immigration issues or the clichy. give the french person your unsolicited advice and see how they react. when they do, point to clémence michallon and observe how as the US has such a prominent place on the world stage, it is your right and duty to shepherd the french. somebody should inform ms. michallon that if she wants input, she gotta concede actual authority. is doubtful she thought this through. would blame on french being french, but am suspecting michallon ain't as much o' an outlier as we would initial assume. HA! Good Fun!
  21. misogyny? you explaining misogyny? now that is funny. btw, your straw man fails is as laughable as your defense o' dr. immanuel. given your read/write fails, tell us what we wrote or meant is a suspect proposition from start. claim a woman is loony is not misogyny unless the claim is made because she is a woman. as noted already, if fauci made same claims 'bout alien dna and demon sperm, you would be mocking fauci, and so too would Gromnir. fact you is shielding dr. immanuel and claiming you are defending viewpoint and gender integrity is transparent intellectual dishonest and just plain ridiculous. you cannot resurrect your fail by claiming you did so outta respect for women. skarp_one, o' all posters, is gonna look like a hypocrite making such a claim. ... if in 2016 we were told potus would serious be asked a question which referenced "alien dna" during a wh briefing, we woulda' laughed it off as a joke suggestion. HA! Good Fun!
  22. we criticized the doctor's looniness and not her gender. you is the one fixated on gender. if it makes you feel better, we don't have a higher opinion o' skarp_one in spite o' fact we assume you are male. am not sure what point you believe you are making, but am confident you is once again failing, am a silver lining guy, is nice that in these uncertain times there is a few things we can still depend 'pon, eh? HA! Good Fun!
  23. you are making a fool of yourself... again. either you didn't bother to search, or your grip on reality is so tenuous you cannot recognize just how loony you appear at this moment. has nothing to do with viewpoint and certain not gender. you brought up gender. if fauci or birx were promoting the same nonsense as dr. immanuel, we would be ridiculing them and am certain you would be. fact you is defending dr. immanuel is revealing a flaw in your character and not Gromnir's. honest, did you bother to search for stella immanuel info on other than what is available at breitbart? what is with the low energy folks needing be spoon fed these days? make it easier for you. search term: demon sperm. HA! Good Fun!
  24. yup, would be totally different if it were a male taskforce doctor who were promoting cdc guidelines. nobody would bother mentioning stella immanuel if trump tweeted/defended her views if she were in favor o' masks or following fda guidance regarding hydroxy. *insert eye roll* for the nonce am gonna assume skarpy were just too low energy to bother doing a couple minutes o' internet searching and reading. dr. immanuel has a few interesting videos if such is more skarpy_one's speed. serious, we can't imagine how dramatic would be the alt-right explosion o' vitriol and derision (deserved so) if it were fauci who were expressing ms. immanuel's colorful and curious opinions. HA! Good Fun!
