IGN Xbox Awards 2004 - Best RPG & Best Story
Tasthius replied to funcroc's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Can anyone tell me if they see five years of development out of Fable? I mean, come on. The graphics were mediocre, the story was pathetic, and the game was about as long as a TV sitcom without commercials. As someone said, the motivation for even doing quests was fatuous, and I absolutely loathed the way the quests were set up. What was Mr. Mollenaeux doing for those five years? Actually, I guess he was busy campaigning for a game he should have been focused on developing. An RPG to change all RPG's? Fable = most overhyped and overrated game in the history of consoles. Sorry, had to go on a Fable rant. -
Disciple/Hanmaiden
Tasthius replied to The Swedish Dark Lord III's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
But how do you WIN the fights with her? I have lost every time. She is much more powerful with her hits than the PC is. What's the secret? I use all of my power hits and I still do very little damage. I have the same problem with the Mandolorians on Dxun. I can't get past the third one. -
I thought the same thing too when I first played through the game. The two squid dudes are not the same person. The first one is the "overseer" of the exchange and his name is "Saquesh." The second guy is Visquis and works directly for Goto. Different people, dude. All you had to do was look in your "completed quests" in your journal and it outlines every mission you have finished.

If you go to the Cantina on Onderon and talk to a woman named Sakarie (spelling?) she will mention that she needs an open starport visa and she has either money or weapons or a light saber crystal to exchange for it. The crystal is "Qixoni." It is a "exceedingly rare" crystal that was formed when a star burned out next to a certain planet where the crystal was harvested. I think it is more powerful than the Kaiburr or any other crystal found in the game. I have yet to get that other "uber" crystal on Malachor however.

I take it no one knows the answer to this? See for yourself, in the military base, if you go to the southeast part of the map there is an exist point for the "sub base". I think it has to be an unfinished portion of the game. Perhaps the devs originally had an extra portion of the base, then simply took it out and forgot to remove it from the map.
-
Has anybody found the Kaiburr Crystal? Yes. The Jedi Master on Onderon (your old mentor) has it when you kill him. Keep in mind though, that Onderon was the last planet I visited. Things may change depending on the order you go. There is also a better crystal called Quixoni that you can get on Onderon too.

All I know is that Force Crush in unstoppable and almost makes the game too easy. What I want to know is, where is "force sight?" I played "Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy" and in that game, you had force sight, where you can look around a room and see who is LS and DS. This game supposedly has it, but I have yet to see it. Where is it?

A couple of anamolies I noticed on Nar Shadaa: 1) You can kill Lootra in the flophouse. Later, when you meet his wife, she will mention him, you can tell her you ran across him and that she should go meet up with him. She thanks you and runs off. Later, if you go back to the flophouse, she is there in his apartment, he isn't there because he is dead, yet she thanks you for reuniting them anyway. 2) The Bith scientist in the flophouse.. After you do his mission for him, he is found dead. Well, before I did the mission, I went to his apt., left my two party members there inside, flipped on solo mode, then went to Pylon 3 and let the droid follow me all the way back to his apt. I kill the droid, and then magically, poof, the Bith scientist is dead. Of course no one in my party saw what happened. "

On Telos, when you go to the military base, if you go all the way to the southeast part of the map, you will see an exit point for the lower levels of the military base. Yet when you get there the door is magnetically sealed. HOW do you get down there, or can you at all? I have noticed several locations throughout the game that are on the map, but you can't get to them no matter what console you go to or how high your security skill is.

I thought Treya was Kreia? I agree. Mandalore says he is a member of the "Ordo clan" Ordo was Canderous' last name. It is the same voice actor, that's for sure. No, those are NOT ghosts on Korriban. It is simply a flashback to the past. Bastilla is very much alive, as she made an appearance IN THE FLESH in my game. She is there on Telos with Carth. True, but I never really understood this part of the story, it makes no sense to me. Why doesnt she just kill herself? Disciple? You mean Visas? Visas can indeed be in your party as a male. I was a male and she fell in love with me and we had a romance dialogue. She is blind. She says as much. Have you really even played the game, dude? You don't seem to be following it too well.

Tasthius replied to Sith Hellacilus's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
It was easy. I turned on my knight speed, and ran down one of those long corridors, they do not follow you. Simply go attack then run, then go heal up, then come back and attack some more. Simple. -
Yeah she told me that, but is that really anything we didnt know already? I mean, we ALL knew that before the game even came out! We knew he had dissapeared somewhere in unknown space. She really didnt answer any questions at all. Her lips were moving but she didnt say anything. Also I didnt understand why the two droids had a confrontation at the end, when nothing ever came of it. You never gave your command to destroy malachor one way or the other. A lot of unanswered questions at the end of the game that have to point towards a sequel. Knowing how good the writers are and how intriguing this story was, I have a hard time believing they are that bad at endings. Surely there is a sequel. --sigh-- Another couple years of waiting.

How it compared to the first game: Pros: Better Overall Story Better Character Development Better force powers and Feats Better Jedi Classes Better Robes and Armor Light Saber colors were a great touch Influence was a great touch Swoop racing and pazaak are better New lightsaber lens upgrades and a "personalized" crystal were great touches Better environments and graphics (yes I am one of the few who liked KOTOR 2's artwork and environments better) Cons: Less Satisfying Ending (even though I am sure this was done purposefully -- I hope! Say hello to KOTOR 3 in a couple years) Framerate issues were worse than the first Loading times are longer than the first (but seemed fewer to be fair) Planet Hoping seemed discouraged to me. Just when I thought I wanted to revisit a planet, the storyline progressed and I felt it unnecessary or just couldn't because of cutscenes. I didn't one time revisit a planet during the game except when forced to by the game. I feel like I missed out a little there. Characters would sometimes have the same dialogue options over and over even after you had done discussed said issue. The prime example of this was Visas. Her character never progressed that far after she explained where she came from etc...I never could get any more dialogue options opened up afterwards. Handmaiden getting pissed and saying repeatedly "we have nothing to talk about" got annoying too (if you were a DS character) Hanhaar was as worthless as a hairy doormat -- never used him once except when forced to. However, the game had to have a wookie and I suppose his story was as good as any possible. Now for the SPOILERS: The ending was by far my biggest complaint. Darth the "Nihilist" Nihilus just didn't see enough action -- great character, just underutilized. He was also too easy to beat, as was Darth Sion. Was Nihilus supposed to even be alive? Or was he a ghost navigating a ghost ship as the phonetics of his name implies? Also, the game itself didn't do a good enough job explaining the tie in between Kreia and Nihilus. I gained more info from the load screens about the Traya academy than I did from the dialogue. Where did Nihilus come from and how was he connected to Traya? Were those Sith assassins alive? Or were they some sort of spirit? Why exactly was Kreia exiled? Why did she want to destroy the force? Why did she need my PC to help her? This was an option in the dialogue to ask her, but her answer really didn't reveal any info. I know she said that I had torn a hole in the force by rejecting it etc.., and I was the only one she had heard of to do such, but still, how does that help her *destroy* the force? And if she needed my help, why try to kill me at the end of the game? The storyline, even though very deep, did at times become almost too much so to the point where it was tedious to follow. Kreia's enigmatic tone was hard to decipher, and I couldn't really, at times, understand where the story was going or what had just transpired. This isn't necessarily a bad thing for suspense purposes, but the ending didn't really explain anything either. All I got from the ending was: Kreia hated the force and needed me (for some unexplained reason) to destroy it. She, for some reason, needed Malachor V to do it (why I dont know). I never really understood what the academy on Malachor was all about or why Traya had reopened it. All I know is she and Sion and others studied there, which is sorta odd considering they study to use the force, yet Kreia wants to destroy what her students are trying to master. Why even have students then? I also never understood totally who the republic thought they were fighting. Did they know about Kreia? Or did they just assume the exile was up to no good? Or were they simply fighting Nihilus? Even with all of the above said, the ending would have been great if after you killed Kreia, you get to see the result of your 40+ hours of effort and see your "empire" you have built, either by taking over Kreia's spot at the academy, or by becoming a true Sith lord (like Malak) or by restoring the Jedi academy, and repairing the force as a LS character. I also was dissapointed that I couldn't get Sion to yield to me and become my apprentice. That would have been very cool as a DS character. Don't get me wrong, I may sound like I am bitching, but really I did enjoy the game. I am just saying that the ending left me very unfulfilled and full of more questions than answers, and I HOPE this means there will be a sequel. I have played Fable recently, and I think this game is much better witha MUCH more original story. It is indeed a great game and I wouldn't complain if it won game of the year. I just hope this saga of the old republic doesn't END this way, that's all. All throughout the game, all we hears is "Revan this, Revan that", and I was for SURE he would pop up on Malachor. Nope, not a peep, not even a mention of him by Kreia. All I wanted was an explanation, but not even that was offered. I am thinking this means a sequel. (so I can't be too hard on the writers) Most of all, though, I was dissapointed that I couldn't WEAR Nihilus's mask! ---cries--- Also I wanted to see my statue built to me on Dantooine after I defeated the mercs for them, but they never built it! ---cries-- P.S. I never was able to fully resotre HK-47 even though I had all the parts! What does he do or say when you restore him?

The Following is my speculation and I ask anyone else who has not yet beaten the game if they agree. I you haven't beaten at least a few planets, then don't read this if you don't wanna be spoiled. If you have beaten the game, don't respond. I would just rather ask those who are currently playing what their theory is: If you havent yet played the game, don't read. You've been warned! Kreia is obviously Revan's old Master, even though she hasn't admitted it, but it is obvious based on her responses. I don't have enough influence with her to ask her directly, but I am sure this is the case. Just go talk to her and find out for yourself, Revan pops up in many of the convo options. Revan's "dissapearance" is obvious to anyone even a few minutes into the story. We keep hearing Kreia and many others keep talking about this "distant echo" of the force over and over. "Echo" being the key word. Visas mentions it as do a couple of the Jedi masters I have encountered. Obviously something big is happening with the force throughout the galaxy and it is happening *remotely*. Kreia told me on Dxun (and Dxun is the last planet for me) that Revan loved to use droids in conquering planets and that he "would certainly like to have my PC as a droid, someone broken with the force, as a shell to mold." This statement came outta nowhere and I think it points to the possibility that Revan is manipulating your character to do whatever deed it is he wants to do (I still don't know what the deed is because I did not answer Atton at the beginning of the game, so I am not sure if Revan is LS or DS). Or it's possible Revan is trying to kill your character (if your character is of the opposite affiliation in the game). Revan wants to stay behind the scenes and sent his old master, Kreia, along for the ride and to watch over you and train you. So, unlike in KOTOR1, you aren't going to BE Revan, but you will be an "extension" of him. Just from what I can gather so far. As for Visas master (masked Sith Lord) and how he ties into it, I haven't a clue. That part is too obscure for me to pick up on. I do think that Revan has again found some "weapon" (like the Star Forge in the first game) that is allowing this manipulation of the force, and it is what allowed him to gather all of those troops so quickly for the Mandalorian wars of which your PC was a general in. (this weapon is some way of using the force to pursuade mass groups of people). Your PC, of course, knows what this weapon is, but Kreia is having to sorta "kickstart" your memory it seems to me. So I can see how the reviewers equated this to amnesia. If you were a general under Revan yet don't remember ANYTHING about the war, then I don't see how that isn't amensia. Of course there is probably more to the story that I don't know yet, but that's my guess so far.. The story is very deep and there are a ton of details that you must sift through. It can become hard to even remember everything going on (which is a good thing). So far, I am enjoying this story more than the first one. I just hope the ending isn't a let down like some reviewers have claimed. I don't think it will be. Thoughts? (for those still in the game)

I think the dude with the mask is pretty bad a$$. Enough to give a grown man chills. Malak was unnerving, but this dude takes the prize. ***POSSIBLE SPOILER BELOW**. SPECULATION FOR THOSE NOW PLAYING THE GAME:

Tasthius replied to jedigangsta99's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Not to mention the fact that each time the Ebon Hawk travels between stellar systems, it would take thousands of years even AT the speed of light (which is impossible for any object with rest mass according to SR). A galaxy is a big place -- ours is about 100,000 light years across. Also take into account that the passengers on the Ebon Hawk would outlive the Republic merely by traveling at near light speed since the relativistic time dilational effects would distort the sequence of events, and the galaxy would age hundreds of thousands of years while the Ebon Hawk crew only aged a few days. (w00t) Who knows, though, ever heard of quantum entanglement? Perhaps therein lies the answer to true FTL travel without breaking the laws of SR and avoiding time dilation. QE is being used now to work on quantum computing techniques and may actually, if nothing else, provide a way for instantaneous communication throughout the universe. -
I have completed 3 planets: Peragus, Telos, and decided to go to korriban third. Let me just say, Korriban's inner tombs will give you sensations akin to doing peyote (though i've never done it). You have to really pay attention and keep up on Korriban. Some weird goings on there. Korriban consists of the valley of the Lords, the academy, the cave, and some extra tombs beyond the cave that were not in the first game. As for the weird stuff, let's just say that This game, imo, is substantially better than the first game, and that is an accomplishment. The story is much better at this point, though like I said, will probably not have quite the twist. This doesn't matter since the story seems captivating from start to finish.

I am typically a DS player, but I find it more difficult to succumb to the DS in this game. Yes, being a hero has definite advantages over being a heel, it seems to me. Obsidian did a good job with balancing the two sides out.
-
You can also get armor in this game that does not restrict force powers. Some does, and some doesn't. There are also a lot more work benches laying around too, as compared to say, Taris in the first game when your only workbench was in your hideout.
-
Kazic, are you SURE you haven't seen Carth's face or heard his voice on Peragus yet? As for letting the Carth thing outta the bag, sorry, but I was under the impression that everyone here already knew. It has been talked about on this board well before Dec. 6th. I thought it was common knowledge he made a cameo.
-
By default this means you thought the first game's graphics sucked too. Interesting! That's funny. Almost every reviewer and every person who has played the game thinks otherwise. Folks, the story is better than KOTOR 1 -- take my word for it. How old are you, 8? You write like it. I don't think Obsidian was gearing this game towards your age group anyway. Better stick to playing Shrek, kid.

Kreia is an enigma, just as all the pro reviewers have been saying for a few days now. At times she seems all for my darkside acts, and then later will say stuff like "Your brutaility becomes tiring." If I try to become overly friendly with Atton or others, she will "warn me" not to be to close and not to trust. Not overly LS if you ask me, yet she will criticize the darkside. I have a feeling she will end up a lot like Jolee. The similarities are several: Age Crankiness Mysterious past Jedi Master Seems to know more about me than I do Gray Sided (as opposed to LS or DS) She is interesting. Though, I must say, Omnifarious, on the republic ship on Peragus when she goes and locks herself in the room with our unwelcomed "guest" (you know who), I had suspicions she wasn't really all that hostile toward this person, and was feigning a bit. Not a stretch considering the flashback we saw and with her enigmatic behavior.

It is a holonet. I Was in a hurry. It does *ring* though!

Got the game today at about 1 PM. I have been playing it almost nonstop since (about 9 or 10 hours). It took me about 4 or 4 1/2 hours to get off Peragus (after I did a little bumbling on one part). I explored everything very thoroughly though. I am just rambling here with no outline and I wont give away any plot spoilers. Impressions: Peragus is dark, yet the graphics are pretty nice. I don't see how anyone could give the graphics a 6! I have played Halo 2 etc.. and I just don't see THAT big of a difference -- some difference yes, but not 4 points worth! The graphics are slightly improved over the 1st game and are perfectly OK with me. Some of the backgrounds are very impressive, especially outside of Peragus and on Telos. Kreia you meet on Peragus, even though she was on the Ebon Hawk with you. She is a mysterious character and your mind will sort of run wild with speculation as to her origins and her intentions. Your enemies on Peragus are primarily battle droids and Sith assassins who utilize stealth generators. T-3 will be utilized, and he does come in handy. Everyone has different strong points, which adds a little variety to the game. You can use to turrets on the Ebon Hawk to actually shoot Sith troopers. That is pretty cool. Atton you meet on Peragus too, and he and Kreia are at odds. Very much like how Canderous and Bastilla were. The Ebon Hawk looks exactly the same except that you can actually see it traveling through hyperspace while inside it (travel between planets is not always instantaneous, you do sometimes have small waits) If you have ever seen the movie "Contact" when Jodie Foster travels through the wormhole, that is what it looks like while sitting in the ****pit. The Sith are after you, you are very important and Kreia says the galaxy' fate is entwined with your fate. Why? I don't yet know. As for Kreia's hand, let's say she has both hands at one point, but doesn't at others. Kreia has long expositions and rants on the history of the galaxy since your onset of amnesia. Hk-47 and HK-50 are both in the game early, one is malfunctional, the other is, well, hovering around you for reasons I can't say. Carth makes an appearance early, doing what I wont say, but he does know what is going on and seems to know a lot more than you do. He is not part of your party though and you don't really get a chance to pick his brain for info. Telos is very cool. It is a lot like Taris except it appears a little larger and more "hi-tech." Swoop racing and pazaak make returns, both are dramatically improved. Swoop racing actually has vertical obstacles you have to jump over, and pazaak is a lot faster and the turns rotate to make it more fair. There also appears to be a lot more chances for side quests on Telos than I remember in the first game. The workbenches are much improved, as you have medical benches for making medpacs etc.. and you have the utility benches for weapons and misc. stuff. You can break down existing items you don't need and make different items. Often you will find "parts" and "chemicals" in bins instead of specific items. This gives you much more freedom in chosing what it is you want to create. The load times appear about 3 or 4 seconds longer but there are FEWER of them imo. I don't recall the vexing load and reload every 30 seconds like you might find on Manaan for example. You are asked early on by Atton what happened to Revan after the Civil War and you can either say he was light side and for the republic or that he came back to rule the Sith. I liked both stories, so I just said "I don't know" and took the default setting. I have a feeling the default is Revan being lightside, though I don't know for sure. On Telos your hideout has a phone that will ring. You can answer it or choose not to. Who is calling I wont go into, but there are a couple of different folks with different offers and things to do. I have only made it through Peragus and am about half way through Telos. So far the game has been everything I expected and more. The story line, though probably not having the major twist, is deeper and a LOT more complex imo. I really like what I have seen out of the writing so far. Any non-game owners: if you have questions I will try to answer them provided that they aren't too spoilerific. Later..
