  1. Bah, who cares how it goes from here? You've asked her, you've taken the leap so you've already won. The rest is just bonus. Go out, enjoy yourself and feel no pressure whatsoever. Confidence = sexy. Talk about stuff you like, but try to keep the conversation centred on her, and what she likes. I had a great couple of days in Milano.
  2. That's a pretty good one.
  3. A doppio espresso from Caf
  4. I have an entire tiramisu to myself on occasion. Though I have also burnt off over 90000 kilo-Calories in the past year ...
  5. You mean like honour and chivalry, patriotism, anarchism, egalitarianism... Help me out here, Meta. Democracy is an ancient tradition, or rather based on the republican concept attributed to Cleisthenes in 500BC. The "Golden Rule" of philosophy, i.e. "do unto others what you would prefer them to do to you" is from an equally ancient tradition, first being attributed in the sixth century before the Christian Era, to Confucius and Buddha, for example.
  6. not theocracies or faiths are evil, some people are It's not the faith that is the problem, it is that a theocracy is a political system where a small group, or individual, gains the ability to interpret holy law on Earth. Which provides an enormous incentive for the less-than-scrupulous to use fear and hate to gain advantage, riches, and more power at the expense of others. A theocracy is a political system that cannot be argued with, ipso facto, because it is divine law. I have no problem with God ruling man, but I have a severe crisis of faith in men who say they are reliably implementing God's laws ...
  7. Also, we can put it in the Junkyard, too.
  8. Then these students will not be interested in suicidal homicide. Homicide, possibly.
  9. I would like to avoid situations where the PC is clearly stronger than the opponent but, due to the narrative arc, the opponent has to win (I'm looking at you, KotOR, and the battle where Bastila is captured ..! ), because that is just frustrating.
  10. Hopefully, all the clouds will use concurrent turns to pass by faster. That'll take advantage of the extra DX10 volumetric rendering features!
  11. Ah, Dr Doom is a true student of Nietzsche, his Ressentiment and his philosophy of the supermen.
  12. ^^ (Virtual, MMORPG) Life imitating art ...
  13. Oh, I know Mr Truffaunt is above reproach ... but since the whole "cheese-eating surrender monkeys" comment kicked off the cultural cold war with the continental ("Old") Europeans, it would need to be an American ... say a Governor or an Austrian ex-pat ... "
  14. Then EA will buy the franchise and release the Point-and-Click FPS sequel.
  15. That's like asking "Anyone know anything about cars?": do you mean driving them, building them, selling them or repairing them?
  16. * shuts up *
  17. Hint: if she pauses at the end of the date and plays with her keys she's waiting for you to kiss her.
  18. I just did an hour of "boxercise" as I have shinsplints ... the instructor (a Yarpie ex-Fireman built like a brick toiletblock) emphasized sqauts today ... not my favourite exercise at the best of times, and certainly painful when he adds "crouch" boxing (where both boxer and the guy with the pads stand with legs at right-angles whilst each takes turns, for a minute, jab-crossing). Still, my aerobic fitness is pretty decent at the moment, so I feel pretty good.
  19. Yeah, the real cause is the "lost generation" of poor who have no prospects. Even if there is no heavenly reward, they could reasonably decide that ending their crushing poverty (and giving their next-of-kin some prestige) is a fair exchange. Of course there is no chance that all but a tiny minority will actually hear any counter argument, and even then it will be more likely a nihilistic plea than an explanation of foreign cultural values. Don't forget that bin Laden is a Saudi, and his poltical agenda is a direct result of the Saud royal house and its relationship with the US. Apart from a "jihad" against the US, he also wants to topple the aristocracy and supplant it with a Caliphate (God's law above man's, which means a theocracy with someone interpreting God's will on Earth).
  20. Watched Close Encounters of the Third Kind for only about the second time since it came out. Actually it stands up pretty well: one can't help but compare the "sinister shadowy government men in orange coveralls" and the equally quaint and antiquated home appliances props in the houses ..! (As if the US would allow some French guy to run around telling them what to do, and as if it would all be under the control of a Colonel ..!)
  21. In other words Mr Nelson is agreeing with you.
