  1. Yup. Saw that thread. It's just someone reporting the same problem with no responses.
  2. Having the same problem. I don't see anything bout it in known-issues and a search returns several threads about the issue, but no solutions or dev response. So... I'm bumping this up.
  3. I'm having the same problem, but I never switch between screen modes. Anyone seen any work arounds? Start a game in Hard, but the number of enemies is clearly on Easy. For example, the mobs on the starting map just before the dialog encounter at the camp. No matter what difficulty I set, there's only the one. Used to be many more on Hard/PotD.
  4. That is absolutely not true. There may seem to be a lot of portraits, but that's only because they're all lumped together--every race and gender in one big pool. If you want to play as a female Orlan, for example, you have only 3 choices; if you want to play as a female Wild Orlan, you've only 1. Let's handle this paragraph by paragraph. First: You should be able to use whatever portrait you like for your character, regardless of gender. It is 2015. Second: Obsidian added many portraits over the course of the beta and tweaked even more. This was clearly an ongoing effort. Many of the portraits that appeared in the shipping version were absent from the beta even a few weeks before launch. Third: By my count, BG launched with 20 male portraits and 12 female. Most overlapped with existing NPC companions, further limiting the selection. BG2 launched with the same portrait selection + a few extras for the new companions. POE currently includes 67 official portraits. When you provide more than twice as many options as the gold standard you are trying to replicate, that can be objectively considered "a lot." Show me all the other games that have significantly more hand painted character portraits and I will concede this point. I am not arguing that the number of portraits are too few compared to BG2. I am arguing that the number of portraits, due to the character customization possibilities, are too few. A major reason for this of course is that unless the game provides a portrait for every single combination (male wild orlan with black fur, male wild orlan with red fur, female elf with mohawk etc) it will FEEL like too few options, because the whole 2D portraits mechanics do not play nice with the 3D models and the options given to the player there. Those points did not appear in your original argument. Unfortunately, the game requires avatars in order to interact with the world. Providing no customization options for those avatars would have met with resistance as well. Providing hand painted representations for each customization option would have been financially impractical. Short of eliminating portraits or avatars, it's hard to see an alternative that you could advocate as part of your criticism. There will never be enough portraits to fit all the ideas in our imaginations. Therefore, your criticism is unreasonable. I restate: Obsidian did an excellent job with the portraits and they deserve recognition.
  5. #1stworldproblems Sure it is not game breaking or anything. This is the forum for the game and he felt like saying it so what's the big deal ? Let the people voice their opinions. Every opinion is valid, but every criticism is not. "The portrait selection is beyond awful" is a criticism and it is not valid. He was free to voice his criticism and now others are free to respond.

Additionally: As another poster noted, many of the official BG portraits were racially ambiguous to increase options. Only a handful clearly belonged to one race or another, and were almost always dwarves. BG2 introduced the Half-Orc and provided only a single Half-Orc portrait. POE provides similar flexibility, while also providing at least a few options for each of the more unique race/gender combinations. It clearly exceeds reasonable expectations. While not everything about this game is perfect, Obsidian did an excellent job with the portraits and they deserve recognition.
  7. Subject would have better read "I Did Not Find a Portrait That Fit My Individual Character Concept." There are a lot of official portraits available. Many more than BG/BG2/IWD. Most of them are fantastic. Other portraits are available online, as you've already mentioned. It is not the responsibility of the developers to produce a visual representation of the exact image in your mind.
  8. The only thing I've found to be a little OP about the Cipher is Mental Binding. It's hard to justify spending my focus on anything else, even the badass Mind Blades. This is particularly true if I'm trying to make it through a dungeon on one rest (self-imposed rule.) Taking multiple melee enemies out of the fight (and therefore reducing health loss) > then just about any other use of my Cipher.
  9. Subject would better read "Stronghold is Not What I Want It to Be." It's pretty much everything they said it would be in previews. Could it be better? Sure.
  10. Subject would have been better phrased as "I want an option to hide/remove..." There is clearly not a consensus on this issue.
  11. Yup. This one just screwed me, too. Only lost about 4 hours, though. Funny thing is: I'd resolved not to hard save as often, because I found myself scumming too much. Damned if you do...
  12. I agree in principle, but not in practice. I started on PotD, because real men put the slider to the right. Enjoyed the difficulty for the first few hours, but when I found myself reloading for 90min just to kill a bunch of boars I realized the RNG was in control and I wasn't having fun anymore. Restarted in Hard. I think PotD is a great feature and I'll be sliding all the way to the right for my second play through. For now I want to role-play and enjoy the (so-far awesome) story.
  13. With all this venom, I assume the complainers will be rolling rogues? Or just taking the generic talent?
  14. Why are people intent on harshing my buzz with their square drama? I've decided to be a hippy about this.
  15. Honestly, I was a little sad to see dual-pistol leave the game, too. I know it wasn't practical, but it fit my vision for one of my characters. Always sucks to lose an option. /signed
  16. Male Meadowfolk Cipher dual wielding daggers for speed and accuracy when replenishing focus. Still flexible on background depending on how you're able to refine each one in the beginning of the game. I'd like to play him as a benevolent drifter from Aedyr trying to keep his Cipher abilities on the down low. Maybe he emigrated to Dyrwood to find a little tolerance.
  17. I see what you did there. Edit: Misposted. Just meant to /agree.
  18. Wow. Thank you for passing on the question. Much obliged. That's the answer that makes sense to me. Just means I'll have to mix a little crowd control/damage into my ability selections.
  19. Do afflictions stack? I've seen that breakdown for how buffs stack on our characters, but I'm curious what system applies for afflictions we place on enemies. From the BB, I know that a second Blinded affliction will just change the duration for the single instance of the affliction, but what about one Blinded and one Dazed? Both reduce Melee Accuracy (MA) by different amounts. If Blinded reduces MA by 25 and Dazed reduces MA by 10, will that result in a total reduction of 35 MA? Or will it only recognize the stronger debuff? I ask because I'm very interested in running a Cipher debuffer as my first PC. Obviously, it won't work as well if the debuffs can't stack. Thanks for any insight.
  20. Downloaded OSX Beta Client via Steam. Hit "Play" and the Dock Icon popped up for a moment and disappeared, but the game did not start. Went straight to the executable in the Steam files and tried to start it from there. The Launcher opened and allowed me to select resolution, but when I clicked through, the game crashed and I received the following error message:
