The sexiest preview ever.
Zoma replied to Matthew Rorie's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Just get the PC at most in the state of teary eyed. Jason Bourne did so when he confessed the killing of the girl's parents in one of his first missions in front of her. Otherwise a camera trick showing the PC sitting down wearily on a chair with his back hunched with the camera zooming out while the PC makes suggestive gestures of wiping his eyes/forehead. I'm sure no players would enjoy watching their character wailing like a ten year old kid who dropped his ice cream, but at the same time also like to relate that a super spy Thorton may be, he is still a person with emotions. You gotta to humanise Thorton Obsidian in the area of expressing Thornton's depression and despair. -

In this case I am correct, because I actually understand how the underlying code that governs combat and states works in the IE and Aurora. Responsiveness, in this context defined as how quickly the game updates states after player input is given, is consistently faster and more reliable in IE than Aurora. OMGWTFBBQ! -

I want a Syndicate inspired setting RTS/RPG puleeeeez! -
Feargus once stated that Obsidian will remain as a relatively small company (around 150 < 100 people) and will be solely focused on making standard games in the market and unlikely to step foot on MMO market. The reason is that it takes a long time to make a reasonable MMO game as well as development costs which can easily go up as high as 35 million. Making an MMO game would also mean Obsidian would have to raise the game like a baby of their own, requiring to commit a large project group of people unlike the NWN2 patching team, to maintain the game of providing updates and fixing bugs. Now the problem comes if the MMO fails to find the required success to cover the overhead cost of maintaining it, Obsidian will pretty much face dire consequences as a company of being unable to earn the needed profits as well as unable to commit people in new projects since 1/3 of the fewer than 200 Obsidian peons are needed to maintain the MMO game.

The Mass Effect comparisons must get annoying

I think BF2 is a bad comparison for an FPS RPG. Anyone still remembers the game "Strife", an FPS DOS game based on the Doom engine? You can buy upgrades, buy weapons, buy armor, explore levels and make decisions IG that will result in three different endings. While there are RPG elements in it, the gameplay largely plays similar to Doom which involves strafe quick shooting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strife_%28video_game%29 -

Could be a game similar to old Interplay's "Sacrifice" or even "Battlezone" with expanded RPG elements. The former being a hybrid of both RPG and RTS if I recall correctly. -

My mind boggles. RTS? From Obsidian? BOGGLING! Wonder if its a new IP or based on an existing franchise. -

I hope the usage of cover system is far more responsive than one used in ME. It will be great if AP's cover system is along the lines of GoW or Rainbow Six Vegas which I thought the handling of it were terrific. -
I don't see anything wrong with the comparison though. Even some Obsidian designers (MCA for instance is a fan of a Final Fantasy VI) I believe take inspirations of their design from Japanese RPG. Basing on the description itself, I can see that it would be the easiest way to express the overworld map design rather than basing older games like Wasteland which many had never played before.

Would be nice if the player's party could attempt to sneak on the monsters or vice versa on the map as an ambush attempt. Succeeding in(Either side failing in spot or survival check) ambushing would grant the party along the lines of temporary attack bonus or conceal bonus for the first few rounds of combat.

Seriously, its not that one I am refering to. -Its a 2D game where the player is only able to control an airplane that is deployed from a main base which the player has to defend and destroy the opponent's one. The camera is set on a bird's eye view setting. -The player is able to build units from the base and is capable to manually airlift the units built into the hotzones or used to capture other smaller bases on the map. Only the player's units is capable of damaging and destroying the enemy's base. The commander is capable of combat regardless hence the need for transofrmation into a mecha form. -The airplane/commander unit the player uses has limited fuel and is incapable of flying all across to the end of the map to directly attack the enemy base. Hence the the need capture sub bases on the map for the purpose of refueling. If I recall correctly, the commander uses both fuel and health with a same unit. -The units the player build have limited fuel as well. Once they run out of fuel, they are stranded in the battlefield and requires to be brought back to the base for refueling. If I recall correctly, units that have run out of fuel are vulnerable to being captured by enemy commander to be converted to their own unit. -Commanders can be shot down, but they always respawn back in the main base. I can't remember much of the details since I only recall watching other people playing this game when I was kiddy young. But it was popular enough that the game was seen to be playing in almost every single video game shop despite being in a japanese language. --edit-- Found the game. Its called Herzog Zwei http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2006/01/rev...-zwei-sega.html

Golden Axe, Ecco the Dolphin and some japanese strategy game that involves an airplane transforming into a robot as a commander, capturing and defeating the enemy base in a unique real time strategic gameplay style. Sigh. I miss the old days.

Must... temper... expectations! Meanwhile, I'll let my joygasm last from this excitement. -
Good find once again Fun. <3 The NPC faces as mentioned by the previous posts, are indeed awesome in being able to convey its 'expression'. Though I would prefer to see it being performed in real time than stills, which often would raise my expectations too far high on the existing animation technology limitations for games.
