Add T3 even if just for the sake of continuity... Hmm... does that smell like Han Solo (Mira), A C3P0 variant with split personality (HK was also a protocol droid) and a wise ass R2D2 clone (T3) ;)" -
Ahem...

An exercise in futility. I can't even remember what 10 movies I put in the 3 previous threads identical to this one... Anyway, influenced by previous posters who jogged my memory, a cup of coffee, browsing my DVD collection and some other stuff (in no particular order): Return of the Jedi A Clockwork Orange (must be the sound track) Dr. Strangelove The Seven Samurais Delicatessen Little Shop of Horrors The Rocky Horror Picture Show The Fifth Element Bladerunner The Two Towers (extended version) Regards and regrets go out to all the great films that I just forgot during the 5 minutes of writing this post

Hey, we got a nice flag. God Himself gave it to us at Lyndanisse (Estonia) in 1219 to show, that we were his chosen people

Was that in the time of The Holy Roman Empire ?!? I know those emperors partially created the mess we see today in the Balkans, but still... But yeah, them austrians do have funny accents. So do Danes btw. when they try to speak english. In my old company, they had a game where newcomers should guess the different nationalities in the team. Danes (me included) were easy to pick out due to our accents :">

I would add AmigaOS to the list... Offers most of the important features of Win2K in a 512kb rom chip and 10mb diskspace... (and that 10-12 years before Win2K)"

A pet peeve of mine is people who spell like a dyslexic intentionally on internet message boards. Atrocities like 'Threw' instead of 'Through', 'U' instead of 'You' etc. And then then are conceited enough, to think that they have impressed their peers somehow by spelling like a bloody internet peasant

What is the average life expectancy for companies where J.E.Sawyer is lead on a Forgotten Realms game ? :D

Different rules might apply for different nationalities, but as a Dane and EU citizen, I had little trouble getting a visa and work permit. There is currently a shortage of skilled workers, especially higher education/technology types. If you are on one of those shortage lists, getting a work permit is usually just a formality. One thing to keep in mind though, the first two years of your stay are covered by different rules. No public health care amongst others. If you want/intend to stay more than two years, you have to go through a thorough health check. If you want to apply for permanent residency, you have to go through more hoops, but I never really bothered as I knew Australia was up next for me. People have between 3 and 4 weeks of annual paid leave, depending on where you work. Housing depends on the part of the country you are in. The climate up north is sub tropical (like southern/Mediterranean Europe) whereas the south is more temperate (like northern Europe). I lived in Wellington for some years (in the middle of the country) and temperatures went from 20-25 degrees in summer to around 10 degrees in winter (Celcius). Generally a mild climate without warm or cold excesses. One thing I had a hard time getting used to was the lack of insulation in the appartments. No double glasses or central heating either. I was sure I was going to die from hypothermia in my appartment the first "winter" A two bedroom furnitured appartment in the middle of Wellington was approx 930$ (USD) a month. Again, your mileage may vary depending on city/region. As for the kiwis themselves (yes, they *do* use that term)... I can't really think of a more relaxed, laid back bunch of people. Generally very nice, helpful people with a distinct lack of urgency in most things they do. If we don't do it now, we'll do it when we get it done type mentality. That also too a while for me to adjust to, showing up at meetings on time give or take 3 seconds and then, sometimes people would show up 3 minutes later, sometimes 15 minutes later. All in good time National pastimes include cheering for the All Blacks (the rugby national side), especially when they stomp the Wallabies (the Aussies) or the Boks (South Africa). Besides rugby, cricket is the game of choice (although they don't do particularly well these days). You can get most beers and quite an assortment of local wines (either kiwi or Australian produced). They have public healthcare systems and some social security, although you are usually better off having private insurance. Oh, and they are very proud of their small country, not at least because of a breathtakingly beautiful nature and a flourishing movie industry. Careful at the customs when entering the country though. The DoC (Department of Conservation) is the kiwi equivalent of your DEA and CIA combined. The have specially trained sniffer dogs that can sniff out traces of food, even in a fabric bag that was used to carry lunch in, more than a year ago. Even trying to smuggle one of the little airplane food thingies into the country will result in heavy fines, payable immediately and/or deportation). They guard their unique eco system very carefully. The only thing I really missed was more "international" cultural events, like concerts, shows etc. from overseas performers. Heck, a U2 concert almost resulted in a stampede and a civil war in the fights to get tickets

Yes. Anything specific you want to know ?

I think we were discussing Hades' hardware, not really RAID's at all. I just felt like changing the subject :D I stand by that. RAID 5 is fine when performance isn't critical (implicit, data redundancy is, otherwise you wouldn't bother with RAID at all)
-
Actually, the 5+0 didn't either Maybe a good solution for sites who would have otherwise gone with RAID 5 but need some additional performance boost Not exactly a "recommended" implentation. Anyway, for my purposes (SQL servers with a high number of write transactions) there is really no way around 0+1
-
I would extend that dislike to cover ALL phones. Short of somebody kicking in your door, it's the thing with the most potential to be intrusive on your privacy. Show Caller ID will only help you to a certain extent to filter out the noise. Perhaps if phones came with filter settings a'la killfiles for email...

>_ ... Please tell me you meant it as a joke

Actually, RAID 5 is the only unusable one, the one businesses stay *away* from :)" You get the worst of both worlds, crappiest performance and some loss of disk space (although the wasted space becomes less proportionally with more disks). If you want redundancy, you use RAID 1, if you want speed you use RAID 0, if you want speed and redundancy you use RAID 1+0 (which is an awful lot of disks). RAID 5 is the red headed step child which you can use for archive storage systems (where performance isn't critical), but thats about it.
