I'm sorry, but no. NO. Just because someone doesn't like the exact same things about the IE games as you do or is interested in seeing a few new things tried does not make them not a "real fan" of the IE games. There are people in the world who love those games in a slightly different (or even *gasp* very different!) way than you do. Recognize that. That just means they are not real fans. Just as I am not a real football fan because I only watch it on TV while others go to stadiums or go abroad to follow the teams. I want PoE to be the whole package. DA:O was not and that is why it was worse. PoE does not need to be D&D, but it needs to feel similar to playing IE games. Changing mechanics left and right does not help that. Spellcasting has already been dumbed down, grazes are bad, health system sucks, Might is magical damage as well as physical, stats have way too weak affect on game mechanics, only a few skills that you cannot use outside of scripted sequences, super high damage and life values as a result of DT system and so on.. all of that that is worse. EDIT: I forgot, Bag of Holding(limitless stash) from the start of the game, maps too small, they even removed the amulet slot LOL... there are other things like enemies moving way too fast but I expect this to be fixed. I only like limited resting and encounter abilities that let caster do more during combat without worrying about wasting spells.
-
If 80% do I don't see them. OE completely ignored the saying "If it ain't broken don't fix it" and people here mostly applaud them for it.As I said, one day you will also get new DA:O and people will recognize this. After release there will be hell from real fans.
-
I really don't understand why some people on these forums backed PoE. It seems they barely liked IE games. Is it because of loving later Obsidian games? Anyways there are too many of you here and you are too loud and it will kill this game for the real fans of the IE games. More time I spend here it makes me more and more worried for the final product. I been wating too long for the next BG quality game and it seem I might be getting next DA:O instead.
-
Might is for damage. Strength didn't make a good tank in D&D as well except minimum strength needed for some armour.
-
Lets just say I don't have a high opinion of MMORPGs. I played 3 of them (DDO, SWTOR, Neverwinter) and they didn't shine well in this. And constant damage, getting rid of RNG is staple of all those MMORPG
-
This thinking has created so many crappy MMO systems that are not half the quality or fun one BG1 has. Wasteland 2 works perfect with hit/miss system. Grazes are not needed in a REAL RPG game.
-
My guess would be that grazes exist so Health would go down faster during combat no matter if you get hit or grazed.

Have fun.

Dude, stop arguing for the sake of it. Monks do not do ranged, because they NEED to be attacked to get wounds. Melee will be better for them 99% of the time. Fighters also are required to draw aggro, they don't really have anything that gives them range. Barbarians are the same. Range is awful, you need to be close to your other party members to be in the AoE buff ranges anyway. It's like the tackiest bonus ever (and if you read the patch notes, it's actually not working yet). It does nothing to help balance Perception against Might. It's one of those "thrown in for the sake of it" things. And you stop looking at current changes through your own suggestion that was not accepted as is. You are sure it is superior and will now argue to hell and back because of it. Personally I like the current changes, increased range were suggested by people and it was a good suggestion. I don't care if it is super useful for all classes, it is useful for most classes. The game does not need to have perfect mathematical balance.
-
So limited AoE is OK, but fighting with bows is out of the question? If I'm not mistaken BB Fgihter has an Arbalest. WTF are you talking about? He's saying that Fighters have crappy base Ranged Accuracy, therefore Ranged is really not a good option for them. Which is true. You can build a ranged Fighter, but it's going to be inferior to a ranged Ranger pretty much every time. The Fighter class is designed for the front. That said, I still don't think PER is a bad option for Fighters - even though Range is a bad stat for them, Accuracy makes up for that. So IMO the design goals do not fail in that instance. It is also not designed for AoE attacks. So what? You or Sensuki still have not proved that AoE bonus for fighters is better then Range bonus.
-
It gives them a bonus when using ranged weapons. Just because ranged weapons are underpowered, it does not mean it is nothing.
-
Yes it does because range is not a combat stat that is useful for all classes and builds and therefore fails to meet the system design goals. I agree it's pretty ugly. Neither does AoE increase. So what? The problem here is not the attributes but classes not having enough build options based on their own abilities/talents.
-
Well the real problem was always creature speeds anyways.

Discussion: the PoE beta xp system

Only XP I ever grinded in IE games was the Flesh Golem cave in BG1 where resting spawns more Golems which are fairly easy to kill for 2000 xp. But even they stopped spawning after few rests so you could not really grind them. More importantly.. you don't need to do this to beat the game.. If you chose to do that then you were rewarded for it.. and let's be honest. If range attacks and BG Cheesing wasn't so easy to do.. you wouldn't be grinding them out so easily. If those golems actually were as hard as their experience reward suggests.. you would have to be either VERY good at the game or you would have been run out of that cave instantly. Combat XP != Give us a game that we can easily break mechanically through the abuse of the system. It means reward me for doing things that aren't quests. Well I didn't abuse ranged attacks. I went to the cave at a time I could beat both Sirens and those Golems fair and square and had magical weapons. But while I was there, I didn't do it because I had to, but because I found it fun to get a bit of fast XP and maybe level one of my guys as a result. Also it is not something I figured out on my first playthrough. I am sure in PoE once I know the game, I will find easy to do quests that give good XP and go do that before doing other stuff. It is in our human nature to optimize everything we do. -
This looks nice. I hope you do a combat video with it as well. Also try to reduce it to 5/second as well and try combat with it.

Sensuki's Suggestions #020: Inventory Mockup v2

You forgot to add the amulet slot to the new inventory -
Path of Exile devs are a shining example how to keep your customers in the loop. Everyone should learn from them, especially KS projects that pride themselves with cooperating with the community. I am sorry, but compared to GGG when the game was in closed beta, this here is nothing. And in open beta where there was too much forum traffic to talk to people in the forums they still had at least weekly reports on what is done and what is going to be released next. And the game is a big success due to loyal fans that loved that developer interaction, and although it didn't use KS, it was crown funded in a similar way Minecraft or Mount&Blade was (or Early Access games on Steam are).

The Insane Beta Battles @ Crossing
archangel979 replied to swordofthesith's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Yea, movement speed is insane as also seen on Eurogamer video. The guy there could not cast the second spell with his wizard before beetles were upon him and had him lose all Stamina. Not fun at all. -

Considering Sawyer was a main designer for IWD2 and considers that game best in IE series, you might be wanting to play a wrong game Cpt Shrek. -

In that case they should put your mode into kid mode and combat xp into Expert mode. Expert mode is about combat as are higher difficulties so combat xp being put with it fits more than kiddy "I only want to do quests and listen to story" mode. -

The option for people to play with Combat XP or Not as Saywer said would the best one. Why not let the players play as they like? Why does OE think they know better than players how those players have most fun? Not to mention making these two options would give replayability to the game (I would for sure try to play both ways). I like to roleplay in cRPG games. I will not do a quest and then kill a quest giver unless he was a bad guy I wanted to kill anyways and his quest was a way for me to exploit him as a character inside the game (not the game itself). I also liked to roam maps in BG1 and BG2 and kill everyone who wanted to fight me. I liked to get XP for it and items. For me the OE xp system will be less fun as it will not allow me to play as I want because of other players that play in a way that is considered bad by OE. Those others will be pissed off because OE killed their way or playing, but I am also slighted because part of my play is also affected. All for a group that probably like me also didn't kill quest givers after doing the quest. This group probably didn't have fun running around maps killing stuff as well. So why are 2/3 of these groups being punished in a single player game? My experience cannot be ruined by other players that play differently in a SP game, only by the game's designers. -

I'll be maxing out mechanics very early to get all that xp. And that is why all skills that players can take should give XP for it usage in important situations, and not just using Mechanics. -

If they plan to give XP for locks and traps it should be expanded to all skills players can use. Otherwise people will all take Mechanics to maximize their XP gain. And it is not illogical that usage of other expert knowledge also gives you some bonus XP. -

Are you sure that it did, overall? I, for one, doubt it. Much of the quest XP was given to each character independently of party size, wasn't it? And yet, in my experience, a BG2 party with 3 or 4 members levelled up much faster than a party with 6 members. That is in part because not all quests gave XP to each party member and also because learning spells and using Thief skills gave XP in xxxx numbers
