  1. Interesting attempt at justifying the black market. I don't know how much you know about the economic and political structure of countries in Asia, but those software piracy rings in Asia are making money to fund organized crime. These are not benevolent organizations that are just trying to supply much needed games and movies to the commoners. They are profiting off the poverty of their own country.
  2. I've been trying to find a store that actually has this game in the US, but it seems to be a ghost. I hear it's selling decently in Europe though, so I wondered if any of y'all have seen it or noticed anything about it. It's supposed to be an Xcom style game, although it has an RTS style combat. Anyone thinking about getting it? I'm actually just dying for a new turn based squad level game. The only quality games I know in this genre are Jagged Alliance and Xcom.
  3. I agree with squiggly line Di 100%. Many pirates don't recognize the hard work and creativity that goes into today's media. Even a bad game or movie takes the blood, sweat, and tears of people to come to fruittion. When you pirate, you piss on them. You may think that's funny, but it's not, it means you are morally bankrupt.
  4. I rarely play anything through twice, so I try and complete everything like Hades. There are many games I've tried to play through a second time, like going Darkside on KotOR or trying new parties in BG, but I tend to get tired of repeating stuff and stop playing. Even Jagged Alliance 2. I've only made it to the end game once, but I love to start a new team and take a few towns before I lose interest.

  6. I don't think PC gaming is anywhere near death, however... Boutique stores like EB and Gamestop are no longer reliable source for PC games. They've gone the way of Best Buy and completely forgotten thier PC roots.
  7. Maybe he was aiming for the boards? Pretty odd...maybe he's also just throwing his arms up in anger? I wish we could understand the announcer.
  8. It's not a gameboy, but I haven't noticed it being exceptionally fragile. Then again, I don't carry it with me everywhere I go, it's strictly for extended trips.
  9. I'm confused why there are a few people here who seem to adamantly hate KotOR 2. It seems like an odd choice of forums to hang around in.
  10. It sounds like you would prefer something like EQ2. It was much more challenging, and the smaller community is more tight knit. Also, MMORPG's tend to be luck of the draw, unless you have a big guild you go into the game with. Every server is a unique experience. I started going strictly to RP servers, not because I RP, but because the communities tend to be more mature.
  11. Guild Wars should be a good fit for you then. The henchmen are a great idea. If I had only played GW, I would probably love it, but I think that Drakron is just trying to make it clear that the two don't measure up to each other well in his opinion. You've got to play them both to really do a comparison. But if you don't want the monthly fee, it's a moot point. GW is the winner. *edit* At the start of this thread, Petay was thinking of both WoW and GW, which is where much of the comparing came into play.
  12. WoW has a huge community. What do you exactly mean by a horrible community? The learning curve is much easier than many other games, so at the end game content there are many people who aren't hardcore. They don't know how to fulfill the tank/healer/DPS roles perfectly. Is that what you mean by a bad community? Or do you just mean that the majority of people in WoW are immature? That's a pretty broad spectrum, considering the huge numbers of WoW players. Of course there are plenty of bad apples, but I've also met some great folks in the game. I'm sorry that you weren't happy with the people you met in game, if that's the case.
  13. I finally got a solid amount of time, so here are my first impressions. Pros: -Great graphics, I looked in a huge mirror and saw my reflection. -XP is completely based on completing tasks. -Tons of skills, spells, items and such to use. -less emphasis on levelling, because you stay at on level for awhile. Cons: -It seems that all dungeons are instanced. That means you are either in the dungeon alone, or you need to find a group before going in. This seems to mean a lot of forced grouping. -Combat seems to involve a lot of clicking...paced very quickly, making it difficult to use spells and special abilities. That's about all I really got in my first 90 minutes. I think it has potential, but it didn't make me forget WoW.
  14. Oh yeah, GUN is only $40 on the PC. I put it on my Christmas list, but I hope it doesn't play like a console port.
  15. I was without an internet connection during the Meridian 59 days, but I remember how huge it was. That's probably why I never played EQ either, no internet meant a diet of single-player games. But I'm not complaining, those were the days of Fallout, Baldurs Gate, and I think there we even a few decent Might and Magic's in there. Oh yeah, and Jagged Alliance 2.
  16. Well, it's free. Clearly I enjoy it. If you do, I recommend trying as many different races and professions as you can. Each starting area has a very unique feel to it. With 14 days you can get a decent idea of whether it's for you.
  17. I remember Asheron's Call 2 still had my characters two years after I cancelled. I took them up on some free trial, and sure enough, same characters. Unfortunately it still had all the reasons I canceled my account in the first place, so I only lasted a day. I never actually played EQ. My first online game was Ultima Online, but I was lousy at it. Eventually I picked up the original Asheron's Call, which I enjoyed tremendously. But the real enjoyment came from the fact I met a great group to play with. We kept our guild going into AC2, but it fell apart and everyone went there separate ways. I really think the main difference between liking and disliking a MMORPG is in who you play with.
  18. Ok...oh wait, I'm happy with the current genre.

  20. There will be no re-designing of MMORPG's until the current model becomes less successful. Despite what seems to be the dominant opinion on these boards, the genre is extremely popular. You'll see only minor changes in the future of MMORPG's.
  21. GW is not an MMORPG.
  22. Pretty much ever MMORPG has a free trial. Also, if you buy the game, you can play as much as you want for a month before having to pay any subscription. Do y'all play many games for longer than a month? That's a pretty good window to decide if the game is worth it.
  23. Oh it had me playing for a long time too, but once you knew the puzzles, it was only about 6 hours. I just meant that the recent incarnation is impossible to finish in that many hours, but I don't think that because it is longer, it is better. Trust me, I was no brainiac in those games...the Maniac Mansion kids all died on my watch.
  24. I guess if you approach games like an accountant, then a 6 hour game is a waste...but 6 quality hours are more important to me than 30 average hours of gaming. I'll always choose quality over quantity. Example: The original Monkey Island was 6 hours, but the most recent one was about 25 hours. I prefer the original because the new one seemed to be tryng to stretch out the entertainment, and even had an odd fighting game in the middle.
  25. There are some long games I enjoy, but they have to have a good combination of elements. I loved Xcom and Jagged Alliance 2. They were long because the tactical combat was very deliberate and interesting. But long action games bore me. I can only take so much rushing around, jumping off platforms or shooting people. Also, I loved the length of KotOR and Baldurs Gate, but I don't expect that from every game. They were well told stories with good pacing.
