Eric Desjardins is retiring. What do you think his odds are for the Hall of Fame? He played over 1100 games, put up about 550 points, and won a Stanley Cup. That seems pretty impressive for a defenseman, .5 point average per game.
  2. A ripoff implies that there is money being made somewhere. That's not the case with the comic. I think it's cool.
  3. Man, I had to look up venal. Interesting choice. Much different than venereal.
  4. http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/723/723910p1.html I'm a bit concerned to hear about the time limits in normal play, but it still sounds decent.
  5. They are two very different games. Prey is very much an FPS game, albeit a creative one. Dead Rising is GTA in a mall with zombies.
  6. I can agree with that. In the same respect, if you collect movies and catalogue them by director then you are probably a movie hobbyist. But yeah, most people are just casual film buffs.
  7. I started Prey on my 360. It's a pretty intense bit of gaming. I hope it doesn't make me do the same thing over and over again though.
  8. This IS a discussion, it just happens that most people disagree with you. You aren't presenting an impartial piece of information, you are stating an opinion (Microsoft lied) and people are offering rebuttals (business is business).
  9. I would say a sport is a hobby unless you are using it to further some goal, such as getting a scholarship or going pro. If you just play to play, it's a hobby.
  10. Oh, and my marriage is a full time gig. It's definitely not a hobby.
  11. Hockey, hockey, and hockey. (Ice) When I am not playing hockey, I am usually thinking about it. Of course, video games and reading are pretty big hobbies too. I also consider teaching a hobby in a way, as even when I'm not on the clock I'm often doing something for my classroom skills.
  12. So you think that Industrialization has taken away the need for slavery? I'm sorry, but slavery very much exists today, it's just not out in the open. Sweatshops are the modern equivalent of slavery. People are sold in 3rd world countries everyday. But the difference is that most countries actively try to root out such practices. I do agree with you that, historically, industrialization made it easier for nations to end slavery, but I also think human morality plays a huge role. As the world becomes more educated, there is a steady progress of individual rights and worth. It may seem slow, or even going backwards on occassion, but overall the world is becoming a better place.
  13. I just finished up with the demo, and wow. It's awesome. The thrill of running down zombies with a shopping cart is really unexplainable. I saw 4 of the different demo endings, and they all point to a pretty solid bit of storytelling mixed in with the brutality. I also started getting pretty good at taking pictures. I got a ton of points for putting a few of those plush toy heads above on zombies and snapping shots of them. This is basically a combination of GTA and Resident Evil done really well.
  14. I thought the concept was rather shallow as well, but there are missions and such that actually affect the story, and not everyone in the mall is a zombie. GTA is based on the same principals, albeit in an entire city, but I never really get bored with that game.
  15. PnP books are struggling mightily, but it would be nice if they focused on the fact that good PnP books can help profits in other areas. Are miniatures going to sell well if they kill the books? It's a tough market with little growth, but hopefully these are just rumors.
  16. Bnet kiddies have always been an issue. Many of them migrated over to WoW, although they tend to stick to PvP servers.
  17. Sweet, I know what I'm doing today.
  18. Well, yeah, I agree with you there. Unfortunately 51% of the voters think that's groovy.
  19. The release date is supposedly August 8th. Personally, I'll wait on a few reviews. August is a busy enough month with Madden and school starting up. Plus, I think Backyard Baseball 07 is coming out on the same day. That's a tough choice.
  20. It isn't still alive? I thought the Starcraft community was still pretty active through Battlenet, but maybe they use other sources. On the Blizzard side of things, they did a pretty good job of taking that Battlenet concept and turning into a massive money making machine with 5 million users paying about $15 a month.
  21. Actually, Bush's agenda against gay marriage is very political. There have been a few interviews about his personal feelings and if you read between the lines, he's a fairly open minded individual. Look, **** Cheney has an openly gay daughter who worked with him on his campaigns. He clearly accepts her, but his party line does not. Bush and company do what they need to do to get elected, personal beliefs are secondary.
  22. I also gotta add, racism is extremely prevalent is the US. It is still very much a problem. Just because slavery is over with and open discrimination is against the law doesn't mean everything is rosy in the world.
  23. The reverse side of this argument is that there still racists, white supremists, and neo nazi's out there. Now the majority of people aren't in that camp, but I think many people need a reminder that if you just live your life and ignore that hate exists, people get into some pretty messed up situations. You can look at Hitler as an example of this. People didn't want to believe he was all that bad. The world had just finished a terrible war, and Hitler seemed to be rebuilding Germany, Berlin was even considered one of the greatest cities in the world. No one wanted to interfere. So if a Jewish person want to throw out a reminder that "Hey, we went through some messed up sh*&" then I say let them. It may seem like they are drudging up the past, but it is a way of reminding us that hatred and bigotry is a part of human nature and it needs to be constantly checked.
  24. I've played almost every MMO since The Sierra Network had that odd little dungeon crawler in their online world, and WoW is a perfect example of why Blizzard is top-notch. First off, attention to detail, as many have already said. Secondly, when I played the Open Beta for WoW, the game was utterly complete. It was stable, it had a huge amount of quests, it had polish...it was more developed than most MMO's are after their first year. They tested it insanely. Most companies would have released WoW 2 years before Blizzard actually did.
  25. Happy B-Day! I'm drunk, you dhould be too.
