Hmm, ok I'm willing to split the conferences and give Brodeur the best in the East and Luongo the best in the West, with Brodeur getting a nod overall due to all his shiny rings. But Brodeur also has always had a defensively responsible team in front, whereas the Canucks aren't even close to the Devils.
  2. Yeah, that doesn't really work. Base camp is still a long way from the summit. You have to train and be in decent shape to summit any of the 8kers in the Himalayas. I've read a couple books on the subject, "Into Thin Air" and "No Shortcuts to the Top" are pretty much the best on the subject. Everest is actually not the hardest of the 8kers, it's just the tallest. But it's all about the weather up there, difficulty doesn't mean anything when a storm blows through. Sherpas are genetically different than the average joe. Their blood needs less oxygen. I just think that's awesome. As to what drives people to summit mountains, I don't think there is a good answer to that. It's like a spiritual calling. Personally, anytime I see something really tall, I want to find a way to climb it. It's just a compulsion. It usually feels great when I make it. I've been looking at climbing Mount Shasta, but I can't convince anyone to go with me.

I'm afraid to make predictions this year. But I'll do it anyway for the points. East: Sabres over NYI in 4. Not a real tough call. Third string goalie. Devils over Tampa in 5. Brodeur will have a GAA of .8. Rangers over Atlanta in 6. Lundqvist needs to be decent, but the Rangers are grittier. Penguins over Senators in 6. Senators have choked against worse teams. West: Calgary over Detroit in 6. Detroit may be the weakest team in the West. They lack depth. Hasek is old. Anaheim over Minnesota in 6. I don't see this team beating the Ducks. Vancouver over Dallas in 5. Turco has yet to show he can play in April. Vancouver has the best goalie in the league. San Jose over Nashville in 6. Of course I pick my home team, but I'm pretty scared. I want it in 6 because a game 7 scares the crud out of me.
  4. My Civ 4 Pitboss game is intense, I just lost 6 knights trying to take Mecca away from Saladin. I'm sending in a troop of riflemen to hopefully finish it off. I'm also playing through the playoffs in NHL 07. My Sharks have a 32 series lead against the Blackhawks. I have no clue how they made the playoffs, but the Blues are in as well. I also went through my first real major dungeon in Vanguard. It was pretty hectic. I didn't die, but I crashed badly once and had a few slideshow moments. Still, it was pretty awesome watching 2 other groups battle and trying to avoid the trouble they got themselves into. Speas well for the no instance world.
  5. I'll be honest, Civ 4 is plenty of game for me, I don't really see the need for an expansion. I've got a pitboss game going that I play a turn for every night, and I've never actually finished a single player campaign, although I did get a stalemate once.
  6. That poor woman must have tremendous back problems.
  7. Why did you play a game you hate for 40 hours? Did you get paid?
  8. Actually I thought the graphics were pretty solid, particularly the reflections. But I agree with the rest being crap.
  9. I'm really just not a fan of the real time combat for these types of games, even with the pausing system. I'd rather play TB, and games like Xcom, JA, and Silent Storm do that extremely well. I'm keeping an eye on UFO: Extraterrestrial as that's another xcom ripoff, but it sticks to the TB combat.
  10. Yeah, I remember when Halo came out on the PC, it recieved a very lukewarm reception as well. Of course the key to Volologic is that personal opinions and preferences are wrong, so we better end this discussion before we are Volofied in a court of law.
  11. Just a guess, but it could be a few things: 1. Maybe the controller is preferable to a mouse and keyboard for this user, and they don't want to buy a PC controller. 2. Maybe they have a nice HDTV that thier monitor doesn't compare to. 3. Maybe they find couch gaming more comfortable. 4. Maybe, after almost 2 years, the user feels the game is showing its age. Again, those are just guesses, but each individual has a unique experience with their games. If this person prefered the console experience, that is their opinion.
  12. I've been very happy with their two titles. KotOR 2 was a great play through for me, and I've enjoyed the NWN2 campaign much more than the original. I also see that the mod community is gaining steam as people get comfortable with the toolset. I'm not sure if either title breaks my top 10 list, but I don't need a game to be epic to entertain me.

    LOST

That was the best episode of the season for me. Who cares about moving the plot? If Edgar Allan Poe wrote a script and Alfred Hitch**** directed, that would be the episode we just got. It was super. As long as they don't try and bring those characters back, it's golden. Also, I don't see why we need spoilers in this thread. I purposely avoid it until I've watched the most recent episode, as should everyone.

  15. Gah, had me going for a bit I was like "wow, Interplay is making a decision that is both financially sound and good for the gaming industry." But then I realized it's April 1st.
  16. Well, consider that Firefly's budget is way above both of those shows, and you have a decent idea of how likely a revival is. It's an expensive project. Family Guy is well produced, but I doubt it's anywhere near the production costs of a full motion video show, particularly one with special effects and exotic sets. I also doubt this project can get off the ground without Joss Whedon. I could actually see it going animated on the Cartoon Network, but I bet there are rights management issues.
  17. I don't remember any missions being longer than 20 minutes or so, but I never made it close to the end. I also use cheat codes when I get frustrated. Don't look at me that way!
  18. I'm really surprised how many folks seem pretty negative about GTA on this board. There is no better sandbox game on the market, in my opinion. I'm pretty excited, it looks very stunning. I've been playing Crackdown, which is an excellent GTA clone, but the real thing is always better. I've never finished a GTA. That's not really why I play. I usually advance the storyline just enough to get access to all the areas.
  19. I bought a plot of land on a nice island in Vanguard. Now I have a weekly mortgage, and I need to save up a ton to build a house. This is becoming too much like my life.

Are you comparing him to Christian Bale, or are you just confused?
  21. Wow. That's the first negative review I've heard. I enjoyed the whole beginning action scene so much that I went and rented District B13 just to see more.

I wouldn't call that anagram obvious, but that is way cool!
  23. It's bad. The biggest issue is the absolutely horrid english translation. It really ended any immersion for me. It's also lacking much direction. Sure, the premise is interesting and the combat is reminscent of Fallout, but the game is extremely unclear, perhaps because I can barely understand the quests.

Isn't Tootoo a repeat offender? It does seem a bit odd...it was a fight that turned out badly. If they are going to allow fighting, it seems pretty random to suspend folks when someone gets hurt. I mean, they are punching each other. It's not going to end well every time. I'm not a fan of fighting. I just wish they weren't so dang popular. I'd love to see them take it out of the game, but I'm not sure if the NHL can handle losing the drunken idiot fanbase.
  25. I'm pretty sure that Starforce is dead.
