  1. I've had my moments when I've been into wrestling, but usually it was because I was watching with friends. Now I tend to enjoy all the documentaries and the odd reality show that dives into the behind the scenes, but I have trouble keeping up with any of the athletes and their storylines.
  2. I am really sorry to hear about Sunny, GD. We are here for you. It may be a bit odd, but this message board is a family of sorts. I know the folks here got me through my issues with my parents pretty well. Anytime you need to shoot the ****, you know someone will be posting something worth arguing about.
  3. I enjoyed it too, but I typically enjoy Kevin Smith having fun.
  4. I have one week until Ironman Santa Cruz 70.3. I am looking forward to the bike, since I bought a new Triathlon one this year, and it should fly up and down the coast. My run is my strength. I've been nursing a hamstring injury, but even if I have to slow it down, I am still comfortable with 13.1 miles. But I haven't been able to swim as much as I wanted this year. So we loaded up and went to the beach today to swim with a group called the Kelp Krawlers. I told myself to just get in and swim, and I ended up having a great time and feeling strong on a very long distance. So I think I'm ready for next week!
  5. I am a bit confused by the cheese factor the the Pathfinder games. Some people have mentioned the PnP campaigns are responsible, but how does that explain the over the top voice action? I've only played the first one, but that high pitched narrator and low pitched barbarian girl voices were ridiculous.
  6. Yeah, and then he goes and attacks Dumb and Dumber and Beavis and Butthead, so maybe he was just a crotchety old man towards the end.
  7. https://www.nomanssky.com/frontiers-update/?cli_action=1630685513.384 Settlements are finally a thing in No Man's Sky. I'll give it another go. There is so much I like about the game, but it does feel like it lacks life. Hopefully this will help. They still need a personality system for NPC's I think. Something like the Nemesis system in Middle Earth: Shaodw of War would be interesting. edit: Reading deeper, it does look like they are implementing more personality. They have disputes and thought bubbles.
  8. Malcador made the signature line, nice.
  9. Funny, but a group of parents in Florida don't exactly represent the entirety of the US. I'm not sure what schools are removing it as 'pro communist' I taught Animal Farm in 7th grade for a couple years back when I was a ELA teacher. I also taught The Giver and a book about a rebellious serf called Crispin. I think I had a bit of a theme.
  10. Yeah. I like that they are raising the daily rate for the subs. That is long overdue. Of course, they also need to raise the teacher salaries. I loved subbing when I was working on my teaching credential. It was a great way to experience the different grade levels, and not having to grade or lesson plan is a plus. I plan on doing it when I retire. That being said, this is a tough time to do it. That said, I've read about a few unvaccinated teachers exposing their classes to covid. I'm livid when I hear that, it is so unethical. They should have their credentials revoked if they don't have a legitimate reason for not being vaccinated. It's garbage. We are required to do TB tests regularly, so I expect this will be mandatory soon.
  11. Wow, Amanda Tapping from Stargate looks like she hasn't aged at all. My daughter asked about the Godfather the other day ( a horse head scene in particular) so of course I had to have us watch it. I could only find it on the Pea**** network, so I dropped $5 on a subscription so we could watch it. We started it a couple days ago, but when we went to resume the showing last night, it was completely gone from Pea****! I don't know what the heck happened. I found it on Paramount, which is a channel I can add on Amazon for a buck. I did that, but I am still annoyed. I mean, I'm only out $6 at this point, but it still was weird that it just disappeared. Anyways, trying to watch a 3+ hour movie is extremely hard in this day and age. We should be done by Sunday and ready to start the sequel.
  12. The term 'abortion clinic' bugs me. It's just a clinic. Maybe they are different in Texas, but in California they offer a wide range of services for women going through the pregnancy and early parenthood process. Two of my co-workers had kids in High School, and they credit Planned Parenthood with helping them get through it, getting through High School, getting through college, and making it into the teaching profession.
  13. I suppose the reality is we teach about philosophers and their impact on society, instead of delving deep into their philosophies. But I have a hard time believing they didn't cover Aristotle or the Enlightenment, even in Texas. Edit: I browsed the Texas education standards. Nevermind. I apologize for my assumption and your education. 7th grade is just all Texas History? Yikes.
  14. We do teach philosophy on school. It is in the Social Science curriculum.
  15. I used to play a bard regularly, but then I took up the guitar in real life. I was so bad at it that I couldn't even pretend to roleplay a character amymore.
  16. I am pretty sure these vaccine centers and agencies are keeping records on who they give shots to. It would be pretty easy for them to check and see if it was a simple typo or if there was no record of the person getting the shot.
  17. Huh. I got Druid too. Honestly I think I'm more of a barbarian based on my answers.
  18. I had to look up Pon Farr.
  19. You seem to misunderstand me. I did not support UBI. I want Amazon to pay their workers a wage that reflects the money they are generating. It isn't someone else's money. Amazon is hugely profitable. Jeff Bezos has ridden that wave to tremendous heights. But the employees have seen very little growth in their wages. It is pretty simple. edit: UBI is like putting a bandaid on a cancerous tumor. GD is right, it will just lead to higher rents. Although those rents are already skyrocketing without UBI.
  20. Right now it is very clearly the people with all the wealth that decide who gets the scraps. Or rather, they give some bigger scraps to the politicians to control it.
  21. Honestly Beyonce isn't a great example. The money she makes from music and touring is definitely hard earned, and the entire team that helps her is probably well compensated. Her endorsement deals are going to be a bit shadier, since you probably have a huge discrepancy in pay between the people creating the products and what she gets for them using her picture and name. There is a reason people go after Jeff Bezos. The guy built Amazon from the ground up. He deserves to be rich. But at what point is that wealth obscene in the face of what his workers make?
  22. Why do you immediately go to "Everyone lives in a 40 sq ft apartment"? The reality is Beyonce is growing her square footage at a tremendous rate while base salary workers are losing square footage. Equity versus equality.
  23. There is this strange indignation around programs that help the lower classes. This idea that people who get welfare or UBI will just take advantage of the situation to loaf around on the couch. And yet, nobody seems to mind when billionaires find every loophole in the book to avoid paying taxes. We elected a President who bragged about not paying taxes in a debate.
  24. Also, DP listed land, housing, food, and energy as the tangible rewards for hard work. But the costs of those rewards has outpaced the money you get for working hard.
  25. I've never really understood this mentality. I mean, if this is true, why do people do charity work? Why do rich people get off their couches? Why did I get into education? Money does not need to be the only motivator to be productive. The idea that you need to exhaust yourself just to satisfy your basic needs doesn't sound very good. It sounds like a great deal for the people at the top but not so much for the working class. I'm not saying UBI is the solution, of course. But I certainly would like to see a more equitable distribution of wealth. We are way out of whack.
