  1. So far it's great, much better than Vista. Cleaner, simpler, faster. It also made networking with my wife and our printer super easy. I'm running the 32-bit version. I'm tempted to up it to the 64-bit version, as I have 6 gigs of RAM and I know it can't handle that. I'm just not sure what the potential drawbacks are. The only glitch I see is when I open my games folder, I have a bunch of broken icons. Some of them say Everquest 2: Desert Flames and some of them are blank. I can't delete them or anything. I read online that the windows cleaning utility can get rid of it, but apparently that has been retired because it can break your OS. :/
  2. Isn't 2 million a pretty good number? I realize those aren't all sales, that they might have to buy back inventory, but that seems like a solid outing.
  3. Did you have a stable internet connection during that time? I just wonder if offline mode isn't deceptively checking in or something, because I had a sketchy connection like Gorgon in the past and had the same problems he did.
  4. So he's an acquired taste? I will say it is easier to understand the gist of his posts now. I have on idea if they have changed or I have.
  5. I had huge issues with Steam in offline mode, but awhile back they switched something and it became way more stable and responsive. Origin really isn't that bad, it isn't quite as smooth as Steam but it is close enough. I just don't like needing two different services to access games, but I will live with it for now.
  6. Last night I upgraded my PC from Vista to Windows 7, and I added 4 gigs of RAM to bring my total to 6. Hopefully it runs a bit better, I was jealous of my wife's new laptop.
  7. Obvious answer: It never does.
  8. Honestly, his response is fine and all but it clears up non of my issues regarding the portrayal (and my issues don't even have much to do with continuity issues.) I'm going to wait until I read the book for myself, to be honest. It isn't even out yet, so what you have is some people that apparently got the book under suspect conditions going on the internet and trashing it. These aren't professional reviewers, those folks have restrictions on this type of stuff for a reason. I'm also not all that hung up on lore anyways. I'm glad that a few of the KotOR 2 characters are going to be present in TOR, but I'm not going to stress out about it. As for the book, I'm just hoping it is a decent read. So far I've got one bad TOR book and one good one.
  9. I have an original Droid, I love it. One, I don't keep wifi on, that sounds crazy and would drain the battery. The way I use it, I never have trouble with the battery life, I charge it at night and that does me well enough. If I use the GPS system or internet radio for an extended period of time, I usually plug it into my car charger while doing so. The GPS has been hugely helpful, but it's also just easier to communicate with people. I can text, send emails, facebook messages, I can even go on these forums. 3G is amazing and fairly widespread. I have Verizon, which I grumble about cost wise but can't beat their network. I don't really play any games, just a scrabble type game when I'm going number 2. At one time I even used it in my class to help with grading while I walked around, but now I have a tablet for that.
  10. Well, I can't really go into detail, but I will say no, it's not like WoW. There is so much I want to tell you! Gah!
  11. Luso, feel free to actually read the thread instead of just throwing a bunch of old news out. The first post actually has Drew K's response to your speculation.
  12. Is your wife covered by the NDA too? Maybe she could post something? Technically I probably violated the NDA by letting her play it
  13. It really depends on the developer. The game I subbed the longest for was Lord of the Rings Online, and Turbine gave us a ton of free content. They would release entire new areas every 4-6 months or so. I'm not talking about expansions, they had those, these were just free content patches that expanded the game. Because of that I kept my sub for a long time, even when I wasn't playing very regularly. They also weren't rolling around in piles of cash like Blizzard, so it is important to note WoW is the exception rather than the rule. I don't know how aggressive TOR will be about adding content, but if I run out of stuff to do, I will stop my subscription. Given that they have something like 100 hours of unique content for each class (8 total) I think it will last me a good while.
  14. I know we've talked this to death before, but the fee isn't just for giggles. The post-game support for an MMO is huge compared to a standard retail game. You are paying for stable servers, customer support, GM's, regular patches and updates, etc.
  15. Monthly fee, standard $15 a month. You can save a few bucks by paying multiple months, but it's not much of a discount.
  16. I am actually bursting at the seams trying not to talk about the game with you folks. I have a ton of stuff I want to share. I'm pretty sure I'm driving my wife nuts with all the "Honey, come over here and check this out!" On another note, Saturday she kicked me off the computer and played it herself for awhile, so that's cool. She hasn't played a game since WoW.
  17. Unfortunately the NDA kind of restricts actual SWTOR talk. So arguing about lore is a decent way to pass the time until that gets lifted.
  18. I have trouble finding the right words to say over Tarna. I wish there is something more we could do for him. What the heck kind of filter targets Obsidian Entertainment? He is already going through hell, the least they could do is give him free reign of the internet.
  19. I liked Green Lantern better, but I crush on Ryan Reynolds pretty hard. I thought Thor was the weakest of the Avenger films, actually. I guess Hulk would be under it, but I don't know if those two count.
  20. There are also a bunch of video of the classes on the website, including progressions ones that show the two different branches. There are quite a few ranged damage dealers in this game. The Jedi Knight and the Sith equivalent are the only real melee focused characters.
  21. The smuggler looks pretty awesome. Both the trooper and smuggler start on Ord Mandell, which is fantastic looking. I'm just more of a tank guy than a DPS one. I'm sure I will play through all the storylines at least to some point.
  22. It won't be available through Steam, but you can buy the box in a store and that should avoid Origin altogether. Although if you are a fan of Steam, I'm not sure what your complaint is with Origin. It isn't as slick, but it's very unobtrusive. I'm probably going with the trooper to start with. I like their B-Wing style ride.
  23. Ow, there's like a million people trying to get into beta too. Feel free to PM me your login info
  24. I've already ordered the Collector's Edition and a digital copy for my wife. I just ordered the CE edition last week, it took me awhile to decide if it was worth it. I've been fairly non-attentive to the progress of this game up until about a month ago, but the more I read and watch the more excited I am about it. The CE edition is a big splurge, but my wife said she's count it as my Christmas present. I knew I'd play it, I was just surprised how great it looks at this point. It had the holy trinity of stuff that I love: 1. It's an MMO 2. It's from Bioware 3. It's Star Wars Two of those makes me happy, but all three mean it's a day one purchase. As for the WoW comparisons, I guess that would be a problem if a person hated WoW. I enjoyed WoW for a couple years, so I don't consider it a bad thing that they are borrowing elements from the most successful game in the market. It looks to me like the storytelling will be well above WoW though. Companion characters are intriguing, and having a neat ship as home base is awesome too.
  25. With TOR getting pretty close to release, I figured a dedicated thread was a good idea, as the random news thread is fairly random. I'm guessing the NDA will be lifted by the end of November at the latest, so that will free up anyone who beta tested it. For now we can stick to speculation. I would ask people not to whine about MMO's in general and the fact this isn't KotOR 3, but then this thread would probably be empty, so feel free. There was some discussion about how KotOR 2 was going to be handled lore-wise in TOR, and some folks thought it wouldn't get much play. I have seen a fair amount of news to contradict that. There was also some complaints about the third TOR book that is coming out by Drew K (something or other.) The book is about Revan and there were some complaints that the Exile is retconned. Here is the author's response to that: Interesting stuff. I don't get too crazy over lore, but hopefully that soothes some of the folks that do. At least until the book is actually released.
