I absolutely and totally agree with that. I'm sitting with this jittery, bad feeling that something will be screwed up and I won't be able to play friday though I have made arrangements to be able to! I pretty much told everybody I know not to bother talking to me on the 26th. Even told my fiance she won't be getting laid that day. What! I'm not proud. Hah, indeed. I'd rather not go into detail about what I've been doing to get open on friday! A scrub-tier 4300. I have to say that was mostly a joke question, if that wasn't evident! Well I'm quite surprised you find TobiWan to be worth his salt as a DotA caster, then. I used to like him, when I was still very new, after having made the switch to DotA 2 all the way back in 2011 - but as I got better and more knowledgeable, he became less and less interesting, as I was looking for different things from my casts. Generally the people I play DotA with (Ranked 3k-6k) are all of the same opinion. I suppose it is down to preference. I will say that Tobi is the best at creating "hype", particularly during live events, but his casting is so poor that I mute whatever streams he is on, when I watch games. It should be noted that his out-of-game antics have done little to endear him to anyone, and everyone, at least that I know, with some kind of knowledge of him outside of his role as a caster feel the same way. (I also apologise for the off-topic discussion here, fellas!)

I used to cast CoD2 and CoD4 with TobiWan actually, and I've met him in person. He also briefly played in my muck around CoD4 and HoN team (SRS BSNS) in 2009. He was really noob at CoD xD (and DotA). Personally I don't like his casting style (It's not his fault though because at the time - most of the Australian casters were imitating the "MomoWang" style of casting - TobiWan and Arseynimz both did), but he's improved his knowledge of stuff and I guess he's the guy you want around when there's a big team fight or something. I don't know if any of our casts are still available online anymore, they were from 2008-2009. Hey I found something - Tobi casting me in Black Ops I love it when he does the vent cross haha, we heard him joining the channel and just started abusing eachother for a bit of drama. Tobi is known to be the best play-by-play caster of Dota2 (blackhoooole anyone?), it saddens me a bit that he's moving from dota to csgo.. While this discussion doesn't really belong in a Pillars of Eternity forum, I have to chime in here. Tobi isn't "known to be" anything other than some guy who screams a lot during casts, doesn't know a lot during casts and has a massive attitude problem outside of casts. To newer DotA players he is (or used to be, when he was more active) better, because his casting style focuses more on the spectacle and creating hype than actually good/knowledgeable casts.

Even with the spoiler tags, I really don't like the idea of spoilers in a forum like this; which is specifically labelled "(NO SPOILERS)", I might add - even before release? That seems like just asking for trouble.

We desperately need a spoiler-allowed forum so threads like this, and posts like Have somewhere else to go. Warning: The original "Spoiler" actually does contain spoilers(my quote has it edited out), regardless of this forum being labelled no-spoilers. Also, @OP, you just advertised yourself with your giveaway - couldn't you have simply edited this playlist into that same thread? EDIT: I just saw this is an older thread that has simply been bumped. I guess you couldn't have edited it in. Let's have more threads.

I agree with OP. Isn't the argument for these streamers/viral marketeers, that they bring people that might otherwise not know about the game, into the PoE purchasing fold? Unless they are content creators in the sense of creating tutorials, walkthrough or other good-to-know videos, I don't think they should be allowed on these forums at all, frankly. At the very least, make sure there is a spoilers-allowed forum where the folk can gather to post and discuss the streams. I don't want any of that in a spoiler-free section, such as this one. EDIT: I should clarify that it makes no difference to me whether the streamer is a backer or not. That is wholly secondary to the content they produce. Someone streaming, excuse me, just for the **** of it, and not providing any useful content (outside of streaming the game as a Let's Play) have zero reason to be present on these forums, in my eyes.

Can you respec?
soedenone replied to PBJam's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
That's really insulting; do you actually mean it? If i want to try out a fire vs. ice damage build in a class, does that I mean I can't think? Ranged vs. melee? I thought that we were bringing back more of an emphasis on world-building, less of an emphasis on graphics, more challenging encounters and interesting dialog. I didn't support PoE because I wanted to worship every single game design mistake that caused the old-school games to become unpopular in the first place. Yes, I do mean it. I don't see how anything else you wrote is even remotely relevant; did you even read my post, outside of that small snippet? If you want to try out different builds, you should knock yourself out. I know I will try just about anything under the sun, myself. I don't see how that mean a "respec" function should be present in the game. How are those things related in the slightest? You want to try different characters? Make different characters. Nobody is stopping you. The Kickstarter and crowdfunding were to secure funding for a niche title that mainstream publishers were no longer likely to support; not to buttress your sense of elitism. I like to think downgrading and "streamlining" to cater to a more "mainstream audience" is what crowdfunding enable a developer to ignore. In fact I'm quite sure of it. That is why Pillars of Eternity is being made: Because you and I, along with thousands of others, proved the big publishers wrong. There is a market, and it is us. To me, the type of game that Pillars of Eternity is would simply be cheapened greatly by including a "respec" mechanic. Please refer to my earlier post for a slightly more in-depth discussion, thanks. -
Will the forum be spoiler safe?
soedenone replied to Marky's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Indeed. From experience, however, I don't think anywhere is safe. There will always be some idiots posting spoilers even in specifically spoiler-free sections. I won't be coming here for that exact reason, except to maybe report a bug/glitch or something, immediately after release. -
Installing pillars on 2 pc's
soedenone replied to budyn's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
If using same steam account, albeit on different PCs, the first one to login will be forcibly logged out on the other login. So in other words: No, sadly that doesn't work. As others have said: You have to play at different times, if you don't want to purchase an additional copy. -
The RPGCodex got a press key, and the admins of the RPGCodex decided that the key came to me. Paradox Interactive handled who got press keys, they gave one to the RPGCodex - they met mindx2 in person at PAX East and he did a very good report on it. It did not have a single thing to do with Obsidian at all. Cheers man, sorry if I came across as abrasive! More than likely I simply misunderstand an earlier post in the thread. Regardless, best of luck producing content. If I wasn't such a pansy, I would certainly check it out, but I'm too scared to be spoiled! NDAs are how game reviewing almost always works. Why Sensuki specifically had to sign the NDA more than likely is simply because they don't want to give him special priviledges gaming journalists don't have. Like them, or hate them, they are doing Obsidian a favor by giving PoE publicity that will then help the game sell more, and will eventually benefit us all by allowing Obsdian to work on more games like it. I'm well aware, which is honestly why I was confused at first. I seems I am simply having a confused time all-round.

Can you respec?
soedenone replied to PBJam's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
A "respec" option often feels either shoehorned in to placate users, or is used as an attempt to patch shoddy, lacking game-balancing. My biggest issue with it would just be rehasing users like PrimeJunta from this thread. It takes me out of the game, when I see such an option, and completely breaks immersion. It makes charaction decisions leading up to that decisive moment feel trivial (as they can be undone) and as such is detrimental to my enjoyment of the game. I personally enjoy doing different things character-wise in RPGs and don't mind turning down the difficulty to play a particular type of character, just like I don't mind turning it up for the same reason. That doesn't mean I don't see where the other side is coming from; it can be frustrating to make poor judgement calls, whether based on misunderstanding, ignorance or otherwise and then having to restart to "correct" such mistakes - but ultimately that is part of the fun for me and having a "respec" option would simply detract from my fun, which is why I would never support such an implementation. There is one thing that hasn't really been touched on in this thread, however. It seems advocates of the idea are under the impression that just having the option to "respec" once, won't be that big of a deal. First of all, let's toy around with the idea that there is some kind of lore explanation of this mechanic being in the game in the first place, so it isn't as stupid as other games do not. Now, let's think about what being able to "respec" once does. If it is at a set point in the game/story, then you have to live with your mistakes in character development up until that point. It could be five, ten, fifteen hours into the game. Not only that, but you would be unable to correct any future mistakes after that point, either. If it is something offered to you at a point, as a one-time use that the player then decides when to use, it also renders the point moot: If mistakes have been made at that point, the item will be consumed instantly, to correct those same mistakes - and has the same problem as the option above. Having a singular "respec" ultimately solves nothing. If a character is found, five hours in, to be "built" in a poor fashion but has to play another five or ten hours to "respec", where does that leave us? Ultimately, I don't think a one-time-use "respec" solves any problems at all. Assuming the player understands the mechanics of the game at the point at which they receive the boon, they are more than likely in a position where their character is already not useless - albeit not 100% optimized. If they do not understand the mechanics at that point, then a "respec" does not help them at all. Honestly, I don't understand this whole idea of catering towards people that can't think; isn't that exactly what we were moving away from, with the kickstarter and crowdfunding? A "respec" option as a way to combat bugs and erroneous/misleading skill descriptions (which seems to be Gromnirs main point) makes a lot more sense, but would still bring me, personally, out of the game when it is encountered in the game - and shouldn't such an option, if it is indeed only to combat bugs and poor communication, be available for unlimited uses? -
Did I break any of the forum rules with my questions? I am at a loss, here. It was never my intention to come off as attacking anyone in any way, merely to question something said by another person. Regardless, I will not be discouraged from posting. It took a long time for me to start going on these forums little more regularly, as I didn't want anything spoiled, and finally I'm here. I won't leave out of my volition, haha! Now see, that makes a bunch more sense. "We gave them the copy with the express purpose of creating early, helpful content for new players" that sounds awesome! What I don't understand is why that would require gagging via NDA. An NDA in such a respect would be something like "[...]Don't reveal anything, or only select few things, about the game prior to the release"(I.E. a simple embargo) it usually does not include "You cannot ever tell anyone about how you received your early copy of the game", just like review/press copies aren't accompanied by any such thing. So when I read "I can't say, NDA" (or whatever was stated) it just bugs the hell out of me, because I work in law and it seems extremely odd and out of place. I know from my work that NDAs can sometimes be in a rather "grey", shall we say, legal-area - but something like this just seems odd. Doesn't it seem odd to you? Wouldn't Obsidian maybe even want to call attention to the fact that they gave an early copy (for whatever reason) to a member of their fanbase? That would be pretty damn cool marketing in and of itself, wouldn't it? That is what I don't understand. I am a new user and my only posts are in this thread, questioning an extremely well-established member of the community. I don't have a death-wish, honest - and please don't misunderstand me as having one such EDIT: My first post not requiring moderator approval! We're in, fellas!

I don't feel the user has broken any rules, did I ever say that? Does it come off as me having some sort of vendetta? I must express profound confusion; that is just about as far from the truth as possible. I'm quite certain I already said it, though I will happily reiterate: I have nothing against the user (frankly there is absolutely zero relation both ways, as we have never interacted) I am just questioning the business practice of Obsidian. Is that wrong? If anything, you could infer, from my posts, that I have a "vendetta" against NDAs. Not against any people. I don't see where you're getting this from at all and it certainly isn't intended on my behalf.

Hey I've been around just about as long as any of you, though I have obviously not been particularly active on these forums outside of lurking. I don't doubt Sensuki has been providing tons of feedback and discussion, going by his number of posts - I am just curious why he has been awarded in such a fashion because I have never heard of such a practice before. I suppose it arguably speaks to the benefit of Obsidian if they granted him a copy early because he is an active forum member, but that still doesn't make any sense to me. Is it wrong to be curious about such a thing? I only specifically "cite" a member because he called attention to himself in this topic. I wouldn't have even known about it, much less posted, if he hadn't. He hasn't done anything wrong and I have nothing against the man or woman, since I don't know them, but it is a practice that I do not understand. Giving him the NDA to sign, if that is what has happened, is what disgusts and puzzles me.

I'm not sure if I'm going to do an LP at this stage - my focus will be on trying to help improve reception and the best way I can do that is to make a comprehensive beginner guide, so that when the game unlocks for everyone, there's something that people can watch to help them understand how things work / how to play. While I'm sure you will produce some useful or maybe even good/great content, I am very curious why you have this opportunity? If you have indeed signed a non-disclosure agreement and/or simply will not comment further, I will confess to being rather disgusted.

Tiers to SKUs
soedenone replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I will post those mappings when I get back into the office this morning. I'm curious about this aswell. I popped in for a "Digital Download of Pillars of Eternity" at $35, december of 2013. What tier is that? "Just the Game" or "Digital Pack"? You post "Just the Game" at $20 and "Digital Pack" at $35. I would assume mine is the "Digital Pack"? Is it? In other words same question as the user you replied to, with the same "What does this include?" as him. "Digital Downloadable Copy of Projection Eternity, DRM free for Windows, Mac or Linux.". What are those mappings? EDIT: I've come to realise, I think, that the $20-$35 disparity is from kickstarter->"slacker backing" on the website. I guess I'll reword the question into the exact same thing as the other user: Will I receive a steam key or no? The backer portal 'slacker-backer' $35 option was a 'just the game' version (same as $29 eariler paypal slacker-backer and $25 KS backer)- with it we get the 'Hero Edition' on steam/gog (ncluding the pre-order bonuses (not the KS bonuses) - code to be claimed soon (waiting on announcement probably Monday/Tuesday-ish) I'll take your word for it, particularly that it will include a GoG key! I'd like to just get a simple confirmation, though I guess I will find out soon enough anyway- 84 replies
