  1. Holy crap Darkside, the new Halo topic not only got locked, it got deleted! Shame too, the closing statement by Authority, as well as the rest of the thread had me in stitches.
  2. That part cracked me up, and I still don't know why :D Murder simulators my lonely wolf ass, ever fire a 12 Gauge, stockless shotgun? My entire upper body went numb after the first two shots. My god, the recoil was hell...oh...wait...you were kidding. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> We have a 12 Gauge with a six shell pump hanging on our wall... The pump is blocked by California State Law though. And if your shoulder took as much damage as you describe, you likely didn't have a snug enough fit between the butt of the gun and said shoulder, you're lucky you didn't break your collar bone.
  3. You should check Ebay. There has to be plenty of people selling their copies all the time. Unless you don't like second hand games? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not unless I can hold the discs in my hand and check them for scratches, or I'm buying from someplace like Amazon that has a guarantee. I've checked Amazon, they've pulled all their copies. I've gotten burned one too many times buying disc based media off of Ebay.
  4. No! Everyone knows these murder-simulators prepare their users for a life of crime and wanton destruction! What better thing for the Peaceaholics to protest? It's for the children Lonely Wolf Hexadecimal.
  5. Whenever she was on the show I was too busy admiring her...eyes...to notice anything about her acting.
  6. I was always a regular. I was, I am, I will be. Unfortunately I have no idea how to play this game, so in all likelihood I'll be one of the first to be hammered into submission.
  7. It pisses me off because I was holding off on buying San Andreas until the price dropped due to a somewhat thin wallet. Now it's pulled from shelves, which means when it comes back, it will likely be at full price again, and I'll have to start the wait all over again.
  8. HE IS! IT'S TRUE! Except for you know, the unneccessary editering of other people's posts...but he didn't close the Halo turned Half Life turned Deus Ex turned System Shock 2 thread down despite Mothman's (our resident Xbox fanatic in lieu of Epiphany), requests...it will remain to be seen whether or not Fionavar does.
  9. No, now you're all either talking about just Deus Ex or Half Life without even mentioning Halo. What the hell is so hard about just creating another thread? Now you guys are just spamming a thread that was created for Halo! If you guys want to talk about Half-Life so bad, make another thead! Don't do it in this one! (Fionavar, requesting a lockdown for thread at coordinates... Do you read, over?) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Mothman, it is the evolution of a thread. It has all been thoughtful discussion about games, the only 'Spam' posts have been yours. Also, have some It'll make you feel better.
  10. I respect Rockstar more than almost any developer. If only because they constantly fight with the lawmen about what should and shouldn't be allowed in Video Games (no rated M game comes even close to the content in a Rated R movie, yet the age of admission is the same. ) rather than just padering to their every whim.
  11. Peaceoholics hold stupid protest, no one ends up caring except greedy lawyers and Anti-Bully Groups.
  12. Raising the Bar I got it for $15 when I bought my copy of Half Life 2 on the day of release. It fills in a lot of the back story that was cut, and it explains a lot of the creatures, the reason I know about the Stalkers is because they were originally supposed to be an enemy that you actually felt pity for as you shot it down. It's not only interesting, it's also a nice hardcover book. Coffe Table quality for sure.
  13. It was explained in the book. Basically, G-Man froze you in time (obvious) the cascade failure you and your scientist friends started in Black Mesa expanded outwards until it covered the entire Earth. While the cascade failure just went to Xen, it drew the attention of the Combine, which are basically a kinda sorta borg like species in that they take the 'best' aspects of different species and turn them into tools for specific tasks (the factory at the end was one of these facilities. ) The game this summer is an Expansion. And I'm really hoping we'll face some Stalkers this time around. (Worker dudes you saw while you were riding around in the factory, and sometimes in those coffin things next to you. They used to be human, but were stripped of all their higher brain functions, and put on those stilts so they couldn't get away easily. Also, rather than blood in their veins, all that's there now is a saline solution. )
  14. So anyhow, I think the a couple of the best/worst things that happened to me while playing Half Life 2, were because of not only the immersiveness, but also the attention to detail. Valve used the sound of a Bull Elk baying for the Black Headcrab Zombies. We have Bull Elk around here. I was about ready to grab a shotgun one time after I had finished with a 3 hour marathon session and successfully escaped Ravenholm, only to turn the game off, walk to the fridge to grab a bite to eat, and then out of nowhere I heard a Bull Elk baying Black Headcrab Zombie. Another time my sister's kitten Headcrab was rustling around in a plastic bag and I whacked it with a piece of hardwood floor siding my crowbar.
  15. Baley, is that you? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Piffle. I've been here around twice as long as Baley, and I'm two years older to boot. This means I have certain 'responsibilities' which really really suck.
  16. And yet, the image in my mind of Game Development studios abducting random joes from the street in shiny black vans was so fulfilling.
  17. You should listen to your friend Eldar. Farscape is > j00.
  18. Whatever. You get my point. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Indeed I do. Hence what I said. A more appropriate statement to make would be: Black Isle Studioes didn't have any experience before making Fallout 2. At least, I think that was their first game, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
  19. BiS didn't make Fallout or Wasteland. Interplay did. Buggers.
  20. [grabs pitchfork] Heretic! Ironic how this is a Halo thread yet so far most people are talking about other games... I thought Halo was great. It had great graphics, almost no glitches, a decent story (Halo 1, at least), was easy to learn, and very well put together. And the vehicles were sweet, too. Edit: Darkside, you changed the title of this to "the new Half-life thread"? NOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Get out, Half-Life fans! Make your own thread! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's not our fault Half Life is more awesome than Halo and Halo 2 combined. :shades:
  21. See, I think I located the problem If you don't know what I'm talking about, here's a chance for you to read up on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byte "megabyte MB 10^6 (or 2^20) mebibyte MiB 2^20" So you see, what you take for granted ("1 MB = 1,048,576 Bytes") is not that certain. It might as well be 1,000,000.. Just as Mb and MB can mean different things! For the most part it's easily deciphered from context, which is why it's a stupid pet peeve to have. ""Byte" is most often abbreviated as "B", hence "MB for "megabyte". Sometimes "b" is used for byte (and "bit" for bit), but this can cause confusion because of the much more common use of "b" to mean bit. French-speaking countries sometimes use "o" for "octet". This is also unacceptable in SI because of the risk of confusion with the zero." If you're really interested in this mess, read more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binary_prefix All I'm saying is that you have a pet peeve about something that's not "precise". It's kind of like being annoyed when people spell humour "humor" even though both are right. Pointless. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, it is not comparable with spelling. Now you are being disingenuous to cover up your error (or arrogance). To use your own analogy, it is like you just decided to spell humour "hewma". It is a peeve because it requires me, the reader, to do the work of you, the author, which you can easily do much quicker and more efficiently (as it is your thoughts you are writing), and indeed it may even be impossible for me to decipher your garbled message. I have never needed to use MiB, because it is always clear (based on the SI units) what is being represented. Except when people don't use standard abbreviations and use non-standard ones. Like you just did. I wouldn't mind as much, as I said in my post, if you used "mb" for MegaByte (although I would still regard you as illiterate and / or lazy), but using "Mb" for MegaByte is almost perposely trying to dis-inform. It does not do you justice. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Or, you know, the general population uses the term wrong, to the point where the meaning is changed, and purists like you kick and scream about how everyone but yourself is wrong, but the new meaning becomes the accepted one regardless.
  22. I loaded the demo, played half of it, then uninstalled it. I hastened to uninstall it faster when that annoying Master Wanker started nagging me to buy the game. It was repetitive and about as interesting as eating the cardboard packaging at a Christmas Banquet. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I traded it in to buy a second copy of AvP2 after losing one of the discs.
  23. Wouldn't that negate his use as a mule, and make you liable for trafficking and kidnapping? (Not to mention importing a dangerous substance: pure spamorama.) Anyways, let's see ... how about Malaria from an equatorial country? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> A. I would take Baley, and if I could not force his consent, I would drug him into giving me consent. B. Trafficking is a greater offense than smuggling immigrants. C. They never suspect the smuggled immigrants to be drug mules too!
  24. <snip> Never use a Bit to do a Byte's job! <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
